Let's play 'Four Weddings'...

Let me preface by saying that we all understand that as brides, we are all unique and our weddings should reflect our personalities and our unique relationships...with that said...

Tell me about the worst or strangest wedding you have ever been to. If you can't think of a wedding as a whole, what is the worst or strangest aspect of a wedding you have ever seen?

*Please remember to be as p.c. as possible in order to have fun with this question. Don't want any hurt feelings!

The worst wedding I ever went to occurred just this last October. The trouble was that my good friend from college and his wife were major hippies who didn't want a big wedding...and then went ahead and invited 250 people! There were 250 guests piled into an Elks Lodge in upstate NY. The tables were arranged cafeteria style, with plans to move them to create a dance floor after dinner. They didn't realize that the built in sound system was not meant to support a dance floor, so there was no music..ever! The photographer was a bride's family friend who would often forget to take pictures of the grooms side...FH was a groomsmen and he says he had his picture taken a total of 3 times. Even he turned into a bridezilla. I think they should have done their low key wedding with just close friends and family. It would have had much more of a casual feel and would have kept it classy.

Hands down, my brothers wedding. Omg. I love my brother dearly, and I think his wife is good for him, she keeps him honest, and whatever they have, it seems to work. However, they decided in February of 2012 that they were going to get married in August. They asked me and my FH to be in the wedding, which was nice. Made us buy a dress, rent a tux and the whole nine, but never hired a photographer so what was the point of dressing up?! The only pictures were from disposable cameras. The wedding was on her father's property in CT and the wedding was at 4pm, but they didn't serve any food! And never mentioned on the invitation that there wouldn't be food served. Everyone left STARVING. It was outdoors, and it rained that night, but they had no plan B for what to do if it rained. They had a tent over the rented dance floor. And it was so hot and humid. We all left feeling like, w.tf WAS that?! And after all the money and time we all spent on getting ready for this 'wedding' we didn't get bridal party gifts. Not that you go into it expecting a gift, but she didn't even know that that's something you're supposed to do. I can't... I literally could go on for days.

This is such a fun question!! A few years ago my cousin got married to a woman who is a 'witch' she wore a black and purple velvet dress and the men wore kind of like a kights costume!! They tied there hands together and did casted a spell, we we're all like ummm ok this is weird. It was a fun wedding but definitely different than what mine will be. Hopefully this doesn't offend anyone :)

I went to a wedding back in 2003 she flew a few of us (the poor ones lol) out to Los Angeles for a week all paid for. the rest of her friends all flew in themselves, paid etc. it was like a free vacation for me and I was like only 19 or 20.

we were all gonna take a limo to Vegas from LA for them to get married but at last minute he didn't want to do that so instead they got married in like the town hall and we had a party at the Roosevelt hotel. (way before it was the celeb place to be) there was no family involved just all her friends. she hates her in laws until this day and is estranged from her parents so that was her ideal wedding. it didn't even feel like a wedding, it was like a big party thrown together last minute. was fun though very casual. she wore like a party dress.

then my other friend's brother's wedding around here. it was like all special foods catered to them, very healthy and no alcohol. I ended up coming down with a nasty cold by 10 pm so we left early thank god plus we were starving. I remember making mac & cheese with my ex that night at like 11 pm lol. I understand people want weddings for themselves but people should think of guests too! I had never been to a wedding with nothing I could even think of eating. even my ex who ate everything hated it. it was like only steamed veggies lol and buffet style the whole night.

I went to same hall to check out for myself a year later and didn't see any packages like that so they must have really customized the entire thing personally. probably because no one wants a wedding like that lol.

In April my sister and I flew out to our stepsister's wedding in California. They had the wedding at a very beautiful hotel right on the water. She only had about 100 people there so to me it was a pretty small wedding. The ceremony space was very nice and as the groom walked down the aisle and got to the altar everyone was happy and taking pictures. Right before my stepsister walked down the aisle the guy marrying them (one of their friends) was like please no pictures from this point on. That felt a little strange as it was such a small and casual wedding and broke up the flow of the procession.

On to cocktail hour. There was no food! I saw two trays being passed around but no food anywhere else for the cocktail hour which went on for an hour and a half. Then there was a magician walking around doing some tricks which was a little odd but at this time kinda entertaining especially since without food we were getting a little tipsy.

When we finally got called in to the reception room we had to wait on a looong line where we had to check in and either get a B, V, or C ticket based on what we ordered for dinner. We finally get to our seats and we sit through the speeches. And then the music starts. Which was a jazz trio, no singer who played until 11:00. No dancing, no singing just sleepy elevator music!! The food was iceberg lettuce with croutons and the dressing in the middle of the table and a very nondescript main meal.

Oh and as we're eating the magician started coming around to every table doing tricks. Ones that we had already seen at the cocktail hour. My stepmom actually told him to go away!

Then the magician stopped the wedding to do a trick in the middle of the room with the bride and groom! Ugh!

At 11 o'clock the jazz trio ended and some guy with a laptop started playing music and no joke it was the most offensive rap music ever! For the rest of the night!

At around 12 people came around with cold French fries, hamburgers and Mac and cheese but we were sooo hungry we are them.

So awful! And she had a wedding planner!!!

Fun question!

Wow these stories so far are something!! I don't have any stories of my own really. I was at a wedding recently that played mainly their traditional music (it wasn't a Greek wedding but close) and only 20 minutes of regular dance clubby music. Despite that, it was a beautiful wedding, don't get me wrong. But that's the only thing I can think of in terms of the question, lol. Wish I had something more entertaining to report!

To be fair, some of us liked the dressing on the salad. haha. I was waiting for you to type this out. WORST. you also forgot the awkie first dance, the VOWS where the husband talked about how great he was and even more awkward conversation at breakfast the next day asking why we gave her so much as a gift.

I don't really have any 'worst' weddings that I've ever been to. I may not have agreed with the weddings of everyone and the way things were done, but each person is entitled to their own preference.

I do have a wedding that I was in and was DREADING going to because everything up to the point of the wedding was a nightmare - she was a ridiculous bridezilla and I really contemplated whether or not I would continue my friendship with her after the wedding was over because of how mean she was towards other people. However, the wedding turned out to be the MOST fun of 5 weddings that FH and I attended all year!!

We didn't really know anyone there except the girls I met in the BP and it turned out to be a blast! Not knowing people turned out to work out for the better because FH and I became good friends with her BP and their SO and didn't feel obligated to have any pointless conversations with anyone during the night.

This is a really good question!

One really awful wedding was mostly due to the awkward room at the venue. FH and I were sat at a table far off the dance floor and legit could not hear a thing the DJ said or the MOH + BM speeches or even some of the songs. The food at our table came out at different times completely, like some people were finishing their meals before many even got their plates (it was like 20-30 mins difference). The food was terrible. And it was an afternoon wedding so no one was really even boozing hard to avoid the cold food. I felt bad but it seemed like the bride and groom didnt know it was so bad so i kept quiet!

The other I'm cheating a little with. I didn't actually attend because i was on vacation but my parents went into such detail about this terrible wedding that I feel like i suffered through it too. My parents went to virginia for my cousin's wedding at the end of the summer. They were originally dreading it because they heard there were gonna be port-o-pottys since it was being held on some big property in someone's backyard. They later said the port o potty was the best part of the wedding because it was air conditioned. They said there was barely any food. People were actually leaving and telling my aunt (MOB) that there wasn't enough food and they were going to leave and get food. Then the next morning my crazy aunt had the gall to email everyone (even people who didn't attend) to ask them what their favorite part of the wedding was... lol My dad had to bite his tongue and not respond 'LEAVING. LEAVING WAS THE BEST PART' hahahahha

It's nice to have reminders of all the things we don't want to happen at our weddings hahaha

Hahahaha!!! I just couldn't imagine my parents sending an email the next day being like 'Please tell us what was so amazing about Caity's wedding!!'. Wayyyy to self indulgent for my taste lol especially if people are leaving cause they're hungry!!

Oh my gosh, I am laughing out loud at work reading some of these. I wish I had something to offer, but I haven't been to any weddings that even come close to matching. Save for a couple ugly Jr BM and BM dresses I was forced into in the 80's and 90's, all the weddings were pretty nice.
My mom did just attend the wedding of her best friends daughter. She said the groomsmen wore camo-colored vest/tie combos. I thought that was particularly classy.

Food is totally the best part!! We have soooo many options for our cocktail hour, I keep telling FH that our OOT guests are going to think the cocktail hour is the buffet dinner!

the weirdest wedding i've ever been to had to be my cousin's back in 2005.. she's from virginia, so weddings are just very different there, but it was in like a random open auditorium with a DJ and a crappy buffet... the WEIRDEST part of the whole thing is that we stayed at my aunt's house that weekend (the mother of the bride), and she was washing the fruit for their dessert bar the night before that she bought at costco... My mom thought that was so bizarre that they had to purchase their own fruit lol
