Good morning ladies!! Today's question comes from my personal feelings about the whole thing. Is anyone else having some pretty substantial anxiety about their last name changing when they're married? I'm hyphenating, but still having a hard time imagining this new identity. I'm sure it will sink in soon enough. :)

I'm not too concerned. It will be sad since our family has only girls so the legacy of my dad's last name won't live on but I'm excited to change my last name. Thankfully it meshes well with my name so that helps LOL

I had an issue with it at first. I didn't want to change my name - I never changed it for my first wedding, I figured I didn't have to change it now. However, it meant SOOOOOO much to my FH for me to take his name, that I thought it over and I decided to change it. It's a gesture that unites us.

I am not changing my name. Instead FH is and all he is concerned about is his new signature.

I'm only worried that I feel like I'm losing my Italian roots. My current last name is very Italian and his is very Irish! His Aunt gave me an idea to give one of my kids middle name, my last name. Think I'm gonna do it!

I'm super OK with changing my name. It's going to be very very weird, and I'm sure I will forget for and sign the wrong name in the begining LoL But I get to keep my last initial so that's cool

Yes x 1000. I know it's weird and I am going to change my name, but I don't have to be in love with the idea of it. I feel like I'm losing a little bit of my identity with the name change.

I'm actually looking foward to it - everyone has a hard time pronouncing my name and his name is more common - i think it will be nice to not have to say each syllable and the word it relates to after each letter lol

I am okay with it...I think maybe since my family is divorced and remarried and grandfather with my last name died when my dad was young. My grandma remarried in the 70s, so my grandparents have a different last name too. My dad and uncle are the only ones with my last name, so I am not super attached. I think it would be different if I had a nuclear family or some strong identification with the family aspect of my name.
I am actually excited to have the same last name as my FH!

Umm...I am ignoring this issue. I don't understand why women have to change their name. I tell my FH that I am already changing so much (having moved from NY to NJ for him) that we can talk about the name later...much later. In the meantime, that gives me time to build some additional collateral behind my current name. I am beginning to make a name for myself at work, I've been quoted in the media a couple times, and I have a blog. Also, I feel like I'd be giving up some of my greek identity!

Depends on your Maiden name, I'm looking forward to changing mine and being Husband and Wife. You don't have to change it. It all depends on how FH feels. You'll still be Mr and Mrs.

I have never wanted to change my last name. It means a lot to me and as silly as it sounds I feel like changing it would be losing part of my idenity. It would mean a lot to FH, we'll see..
