QOTD - 1/8/13

Morning,

What do you feel is most important to splurge on and where do you suggest saving your money?

*** We definitely stretched the budget on our photographer/videographer but it's the same vendor and we booked him early, before we really had any idea about budgeting a wedding. I'm happy with the decision as those memories will be around. Also I think we went a little over on the DJ our venue, not a lot but I think it's ok because i want to treat our guests to a great dinner, atmosphere and sll around an awesome party and these are the things that guests will remember. We saved money with flowers, got a great price and my mother bought my dress. I honestly don't think I'm doing a good job at 'saving money.'

I got the photographer & DJ I wanted. I think we got good prices, but I was definitely willing to splurge on those things. Definitely saved money on the flowers and centerpieces by keeping them simple.

We also thought our money was best spent on photographer and DJ. We're saving money with our florist (undercut all the other ones we priced out), and definitely paper goods--I'm doing the invites, programs, everything myself.

our biggest splurge is our honeymoon! that was the most important to us lol. everywhere else we are just trying to save money in general.

For me most important splurges are venue (excellent atmosphere and amazing food are a MUST) and the band. There is nothing like good live music to entertain me and my guests. For saving I would say invitations were not very important to me since people look at them for 30 seconds and throw them in a drawer. I am also not very big on flowers so I was able to save a bit there but I do think they add to the overall atmosphere of the room so I didn't want to skimp too much!

Venue is the biggest splurge and the most important to me. I knew I wanted a mansion with good food and I was not willing to compromise. Places to cut back would be stuff for our church ceremony. Our church is really pretty so I'm not wasting time or money on alter flowers, pew decorations, programs.

Our splurge is our venue. We also got alot of extras like a photobooth and uplighting. We also got a very good photographer that was over what I thought I was going to spend.

I think I picked all reasonable vendors but I am splurging on my dress, shoes, makeup and hopefully we're going to get the Rolls Royce Phantom. Since I am having about 300 people I am saving on the RH. I think I got a great deal and a lot of throw ins.

videographer but now his prices went up for 2014 so it doesnt feel as splurge-y

everything else has been right in line

Venue was a splurge but we love everything about it so it is worth every penny! Everything else has been on point

we def splurged on photography. we also splurged on a big rehearsal dinner since we have a lot of out of towners and want to thank them for traveling to LI. we are skimping on flowers- love them but can't bring myself to spend more than a few hundred! we are not having favors (isn't open bar a favor? lol) a videographer, limos, bridal party, or officiant (friend is getting ordained)- so those are some savings there.

Honestly, I never really care about favors when I'm a guest at the wedding. But I DO care very much about the open bar. Good point!

As for the QOTD, we splurged a little with our photographer and our music/DJ (pianist for ceremony, jazz guitarist for CH, uplighting, dance floor lighting, zap shots) but really, we made it all work. I saved a decent amount on flowers and stationary my making my own pomanders, CPs, and invitations. It all balanced out pretty well.

We Def splurged on the venue and will be splurging on our Honey moon and of course my dress.

I hope to save on favors ( we are having a photobooth and the favors will just be little picture frames), Limos, we dont need a hotel room, and I dont really care about invitations.

A few brides already said this but i totally agree! PHOTOGRAPHY SPLURGE! You will be looking at your photos for the rest of your life!

Cut back on invitations, people are going to look at it and throw them away.

we cut down our favor budget BUT i definitely think SOMETHING is required. it's the first thing people look at when they sit at the table--- in the few moments before the action begins.

this is true for weddings, showers, etc!

ITA on cutting back on invites... but damn those pocket folds and fancy layered invites keep calling my name HAHA

The DJ--to me music was most important and I had the largest budget for them : )

I totally agree! Even a little something is expected/appreciated!
