Today is a two-part question1. How was it when you first met FH's family?
and
2. Do you plan on keeping FH's family involved in the planning? If so how?
1. When I first met FH's mom and step dad I had no idea it was coming. I was on my way to an islanders game with him and he basically was like 'come in and meet my parents' and I was like 'ummm ok'
I had no time to prepare. As for his father & sister, we met by going out to dinner one night. I was SO nervous to meet his sister more then anyone. I once when on a date with a guy and his sisters were evil, no joke. Anyway, she was awesome. I love her. We have a great relationship & I Am so grateful. Even his extended family has been great. I really lucked out. 2. I plan to try to keep them very involved. Right now there isn't much they can do since we are booking our major vendors but I plan to go bridesmaids dress shopping with FSIL and my sister. FSIL has lots of great ideas so when it comes down to the fun detail stuff I'm sure we will be doing a lot together. As for FMIL, I don't know if I will take her dress shopping just because my mom didn't have her mother around when planning her wedding (she died young of cancer) and I know how much she is looking forward to it. I will at least take her for a fitting or maybe when I order it. I want her to feel involved. It is her son's wedding too
She can be veryyyyy sensitive though so I am hoping her feelings don't get hurt in any way. It hard to please everyone when planning a wedding.

1) The first time I met Fmil I had a hickey from Fh on my neck and didn't know it until after he introduced us I had short hair at the time too so she definitely saw it. Needless to say when I realized I was embarrassed and ready to kill him. I got along with his family right away though.2) Fmil has two sons so I plan on keeping her very involved since I am the daughter she never had herself. My mom actually told me to invite her dress shopping. They get along really well which is a plus.

When I met my FH he was still living at home in his parents basement. On our 4th date we went back to his house after going out with my friends and so he basically had to sneak me in! We were downstairs talking and giggling and we woke up his parents!!
his dad came to the top of the steps an asked us to keep it down, I was trying so hard not to laugh bc it was all so ridiculous lmao. The next morning I met his dad who just laughed about it and I met his mom a few days after that. We all crack up when we talk about that story now. And it really was completely innocent, he had more to drink than me and I wanted to drive him home! Of course I ended up putting myself in a situation that made me look like a you know what
I'm trying to keep everyone as involved as possible but it's hard to make everybody happy. I keep FMIL up to speed with everything but she didn't come dress shopping with me, I wanted to keep that just me and my mom. FSIL will be a bridesmaid and she seems excited. Hopefully FMIL will come to one of my venues showcases sometime, I think that would be a good bonding experience for us.

1) I was so petrified to meet FH's family! I was painfully shy at the time, but his mom and sisters were so warm and welcoming immediately that I adored them from the start! His dad wasn't around that night and I met him later. But yeah, I loved them immediately.2) I am definitely involving them in the planning. I'm always asking for his mom's opinion on stuff, and his older sister got married a few years ago, so she's also great to talk to. His younger sister is in law school now, so I try to leave her to focus on that, but when it comes time for dresses, I'm definitely going to want her opinion! She always looks good and knows what looks good on other people.

I have yet to meet FHs family. His mom lives in Puerto Rico, and his brother he really doesn't have contact with. I've met and been with his friends many times, and he considers them family. The first meeting went ok, but I felt like I was under a microscope. As for the wedding planning, it's all on us. No one else has any input whatsoever.

I was really scared to meet FH's family. Luckily, I met them and immediately felt comfortable and bonded with them. I had the honor of knowing his mother for a little over a year before she passed away from cancer. It was really hard. I internalized most of it for FH's sake but I couldn't believe that she was gone, like meeting her, getting to know her and knowing where our relationship was going I wanted her to be here for this time. Luckily, I know she vocalized how she loved me for her son and knew that I was the right one for him and she was approving of our relationship and where we were headed. That made me feel SOOOO amazing. When I met FH's extended family I was not sure how it was going to go but I always make a joke that they love me more than FH! They are awesome. I truly adore his whole, entire family.FH's aunt has expressed her desire to be included. (His mom and her were sisters) I think she feels that she should pick up the slack since his mother isn't around. I have decided to include her in the dress, to a degree. Once I pick my dress with my mother, I will than have her come and see it. There really isn't much for her to do since FH and I have done mostly all the work but I have told my mom for my bridal shower to include her.

1- Funny enough, I met FH's mom before I even met him! I was the makeup artist for FH's brother's wedding and did FMIL's makeup that morning! She LOVED the way I did her makeup, said she never felt more beautiful and was excited to see me at the reception later on. Sure enough, the reception is where I met FH and the rest of his family! My FIL's were beyond thrilled that we got together... they still are!2- We are currently living with FH's parents, so they have been involved in a lot of the conversation. I will have FMIL come to look at wedding dresses with us and I would love to go help her pick out hers too! They are helping with the engagement parties, the rehearsal dinner and even came with us to look at the venue we wanted! Very involved and we like it that way :)

1.I think the first time I met FH's parents was on our first date. We went back to his house to watch a movie he made and I met his mom first. I wasn't nervous at all. She was the sweetest thing!2. FMIL passed away from cancer last May, but I know she would have been very involved in the wedding planning. Instead I've asked his sister to come along for some vendor appointments and she was really greatful for that.

1- I met his family primarily because he broke his ankle and had to bring his niece back home and then went to the hospital. --talk about awkward--2. Yes, he has 4 sisters AND his mom so its hard keeping everyone in the loop but i am trying.

1. The first time I met FH's mom was a random moment in their driveway. I wasn't prepared at all but FH was working on her car quickly before we went out. I don't remember when I first met his dad. They're both great2.I want to keep my future in laws in the planning as much as possible. However... they don't really understand the wedding planning. As they say they're not 'party people'. We brought both of our moms to the tasting when we booked the venue. I'm considering asking my FMIL if she wants to come dress shopping with my mom and I. His sister is also going to be one of my bridesmaids so she'll be involved in some of the planning as well :)

1) I met his mom and sister, brother in law and nephews cause we were invited to dinner to formally meet cause he told his mom and sister he was serious about me. So they wanted to meet me. The rest of his mom side I met the first summer we were dating at a bbq, he told his mom at that bbq he wanted to marry me....which then led to his mom introducing me and then saying we are going to have a wedding soon. I was not engaged yet at this point lol.FH dad and that side of the family I met under akward terms at his grandfathers funeral.2) We have really been doing all the wedding planning ourselves but if they want to be kept in the loop on planning i definiely will.

1) I met FH'S family--entire family-- before he met any of my relatives. He wanted to introduce me to his immediate family and his grandparents as soon as possible. When I met his mom I was so intimidated. She was young and cool and I thought she would hate me. Now, we have trouble remembering our proper relationship because we feel like best friends. His relationship with his family was so important to him so I knew if they disapproved I was out! Needless to say, they liked me!2) Being long distance from wedding planning and even longer distance from FH family makes involving them very difficult. I try to tell them all the details. Texting, pinterest, and watching say yes to the dress help to stimulate conversation. It has been difficult because they are so far removed from the idea of a 2013 LONG ISLAND wedding. They get a little over involved in our spending, which gets frustrating. Over all, going well so far!

I met his family on my FSIL's birthday. We had to stop there for cake after our second date. It was so nervewrecking, but they were so amazing!!His family is into planning with us. His mom and my mom get along great, so she will be coming to all dress fittings, and we have gone to some showcases together.

1. I actually met FHs stepfather before anyone else in his family, at 7am the morning after the first time I crashed at his house (literally just slept over after a party). So that was a little awkward to say the least. But the rest of his family meeting me went really well, they all are so friendly, and I'm not intimidated by large families bc I have one of my own.2. I want to involve FHs mother in some of the planning, such as inviting her to come pick out a dress with me, food tasting, etc, but I've been trying to meet with a lot of the vendors on my own so I can make decisions based on what I want, not what other people's opinions are.

1. I met FH's parents about a month into dating at his house. I walked into their kitchen and he introduced me as his girlfriend. I was sooooo nervous because I had a not so great encounter with one of my ex's parents in the past (she was a bit of a looney toon) so I've been hesistant around parents and family ever since. Luckily for me they're nice people!2) FH's family is very involved in the wedding process. FH's parents came to the food tasting for the venue with me and my parents before we booked. Also, all 3 of FH's sisters are my BMs. I plan on inviting FMIL to one of my fittings for my dress also.

1. FH is originally from FL and we met in college in PA. He isn't very close to his mom (his father is deceased) so I didn't end up meeting her until we were dating for about 9 months, but because of distance. But since she and FH aren't really close, her and I really don't have much of a relationship. It's not like I have anything against her, she's just there. I didn't meet his sister until we were dating for about 2 years because she was a Marine and stationed out in Cali.2. Since FH's family isn't close they aren't really involved in our wedding planning. It's mostly been just him and I working things out. His extended family is down here in Maryland and they were not happy when we told them we were getting married on LI. So I really try not to talk about it with any of them!

1. I first met my FH's family even before FH and I started dating. We went to senior prom together as friends (but quickly became official soon after) and had pre-prom at his house. I was a nervous wreck because I was going to prom with my biggest crush AND meeting his family all at the same time!2. FH's family is very involved in the wedding process since they went through it once already with my FSIL. They have been to most of the venues with us, saw a lot of bands with us, and my FMIL and FSIL will be dress shopping with me and my mom.
