Ok, so todays question is sort of inspired by this awful movie I saw, 'Don Jon'. lol In your early stages of dating, what did you learn about your FH that surprised you?
For me I noticed when I started staying over at his place. He always eats breakfast standing up. At first it annoyed me bc I hate when people hover over me, but I got use to it. My FH has no particular reason as to why, other than he just prefers it. Whatever floats his boat I guess. I'm just glad he doesn't do it around company lol

When we first began dating - and I started staying over his place on the weekends - I noticed that he never had to do laundry. A couple times I noticed his laundry bag in the back seat of the car, and I figured he dropped it off at a laundromat to get done (totally understandable, I used to do it all the time too when I worked nights). Come to find out, he was dropping it off at moms house!! Yup. I made sure FH learned how to do laundry soon after. I mean, he was 36. About time, right?

When we first met, he was 24 and living on his own so I just assumed that he had a bad relationship with his parents. I was so surprised to see how close he was the his whole family! It's one of the things that I love about him!

How much clothes he has!! He used to work in retail so maybe that's why. It's been many years since we first started dating but I'm still amazed how much clothing he has lol. We counted his shirts alone last year just to see how many he really had...300+!!

I grew up in the south where we never wear shoes (it's not a stereotype if it's true!), if we do it's flip flops, and that's about it. ESPECIALLY not in the house. To this day, the first thing I do when I get home is take my shoes off, lol.
When FH started dating, he lived on his own, and I would notice when I would come over that he wears his shoes ALL. THE. TIME. Even if he has socks on (at home), he wears flip flops over his socks. It was the most bizarre thing I'd ever seen! He calls them 'house shoes' and it's either a Latino thing or an old fashioned thing that his grandmother instilled in him. It's still so weird to me.

Thats so funny. My moms parents, who are Polish, actually are very similar. They call them 'home shoes'....its really slippers. Everytime I go over their house, if I take off my shoes, they ask if my feet are cold....and offer me a pair of their 'home shoes.'

Haha too funny! I had to teach mine that you have to separate the whites from coloreds. The look on his face when I told him that, you'd think I told him I discovered fire or something lol. Apparently he's been doing his laundry like that since college. Oy lol

My family does this too. In fact, whenever my FH comes over the house my mom gives him house slippers to wear with his socks. I always thought it was just an Asian thing. I guess not lol

What I learned wasn't about him so much, but about how small of a world it is! It turns out the FH's best friend was dating (he's now engaged to her) someone I went to HS with. That his brother's ex GF was someone I went to HS with. And all the friends we actually had in common. It was almost like - why didn't we meet earlier?!?!
I even asked FH that - and he said that it's better that we met when we did & not earlier. Apparently he was an a$$hole and it probably wouldn't have worked out. He mellowed out just before we met.

I learned that my FH ate breakfast and dinner on a TV tray in the living room. He never used the table lol..now I need to break us both of the habit!

I learned that he has more pairs of shoes than I do!! And that the first thing he does when he walks into the house (or, when he lived with his mom, when he walked in his room), he immediately takes off his pants. Luckily, if we have guests, he can usually wait. But it always cracks me up, even 9 years later.

Hahaha - def a Latino thing! My grandmother would always yell at us to put on socks to bed and slippers to walk around in the house...that's how you get sick -walking around barefoot. Lol I honestly prefer to be a free spirit and walk barefoot. I'm a rebel like that! Lol

I thought I was bad with shoes, my FW absolutely must have a pair of sneakers to match every outfit and every color must match perfectly. I love finding a good pair of heels to match a cute dress I buy every once in a while, but my FW matches EVERY outfit. Her hoodies, accessories, sneakers, t-shirts must all flow and be the same colors. We will scour the tri-state for a matching pair of sneakers if we must. In the end she looks fantastic so I don't mind as much.
