Good afternoon ladies, today we met with our priest to go over some things for our ceremony, so I guess I'll base QOTD around that today, here goes!!!
Are you getting married in a Church? If so, which one? Is this your parish church or FH's or another? Are you having a full mass or just a ceremony? Why did you choose this? If you're not getting married in a church, where are you getting married? Why did you choose this place? Is there anything about your wedding ceremony that is especially meaningful to you and FH? What is it and why?
We're getting married at my parish Church, St. Agnes in Rockville Centre, it's been my parish church since 2001 when we moved here. We're having a full mass, mostly because the actual rite of marriage is the most spiritual and important part of the day and we want everyone to share in our faith and beliefs. After meeting with our priest, we're really excited about personalizing our ceremony, the thing that's really important to us is the offering of flowers to the blessed mother and lighting the candle for our relatives who are deceased, we both feel it's a nice way to honor their love and memory without drawing attention to sadness. So how about you???

We are not getting married at a chucrh. Our ceremony will be on the dock at the Long Island Maritime Mueseum. When looking for RHs The West Sayville Country Club showed me The Maritime Muesuem as a location for the ceremeny (They are neighbors) and I loved it!

We're getting married at 'my' church - although I'm a bad Catholic and never made my confirmation. It's the church in the town I grew up in (St. Gertrude's in Bayville). We're just doing the ceremony, no mass.

We are getting married at St. Martin of Tours in Amityville. It's my mom's parish. We are just doing the ceremony. I never made my confirmation so the priest won't do a full mass.

No, we will be getting married at the RH. FH and I are not religious people so we felt that it would be a little bit of a lie, if you will, for us to go thru the process of having a church wedding. We'll be doing a non-denominational ceremony. What I love most about our ceremony is that we will not be saying the usual 'I DOs' so I think it will be something different for people to hear.

we're getting married at Jericho Terrace... fh is not apart of any religion and i wasn't going to put him though having to become catholic for only one day when i don't even practice (or believe in) the religion myself...
plus i want everyone there... i have gone to many many church weddings during my life because i feel it's important to see the bride and groom get married and most of the time the church is pretty empty which stinks !!!

Re: ***QOTD 2/7/09*** My LAST as BOTW!!!
We are getting married at my church...originally, we were going to get married in the church FH received some of his sacraments in....but, since FH doesn't really go to church much, there was no 'tie' to that church...even though it would have been more convenient for guests/family, etc.
So, we opted to go with my church we I have been going to since I was born...I have a relationship with my church, not only because of sacraments, but it's been part of my life for 31 years.
I figured let me 'end' my religious relationship with my church on our wedding day, and 'start' a new one with my husband in a church when we finally move.
We are having a full mass, in lieu of a ceremony. It's not too much of a time difference, but I just felt like it was part of completing the sacramental journey.
I think everyone has to do what they feel is best for them and their situation...so that's what we did for us! No matter how far away my church is from people, if they want to come they will!

We are getting married at 'my' church St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square. I have had all my sacraments there and went to school there pre-k -8th grade. We are having a full mass because I feel like marriage is a sacrament, and I am really looking foward to the first time we spend in the Church as husband and wife!
Good question!

We're getting married at 'my' church. We wanted a full mass but since it's a holy day of obligation, we can't. It's fine though. FH and I plan to go to a mass before the wedding. And out of all the guests who attend I'm not sure how many people would be able to receive communion. And I wouldn't want to leave anyone out. We chose to have a church wedding because it's just a personal choice. We're both very traditional.

Awe, we will miss your tiered questions.
Are you getting married in a Church?
Yes
If so, which one?
St Patricks in Bay Shore
Is this your parish church or FH's or another?
Neither, he is from NJ and I am not Catholic. It took some work to get them to allow this but we knew the right people who helped us set it up. Although FH has been actively attending mass since.
Are you having a full mass or just a ceremony?
Just a ceremony, because I am not Catholic.
Why did you choose this?
It was really important to him. I wanted to get married under the gazebo at Lands End but I caved on this, I knew he really cared. Plus if we got married at Lands End we couldn't enter together with our BP on the boat. (Unless we saw each other first which I didn't want.)

Are you getting married in a Church? Yes
If so, which one? St. Paraskevi in Greenlawn
Is this your parish church or FH's or another? FH's
Are you having a full mass or just a ceremony? Ehh...it's the full service. It's not called a mass I don't think. I think it's called a ceremony, but it's even longer than a Catholic mass. It's Greek Orthodox, so there's no choice, it's either all or nothing.
Why did you choose this? FH is religious and I'm not. I never wanted to get married in the Catholic church...specifically my own parish, because I hate the people that go there, and all they stand for. SSPJ in St James...you won't find more hypocritical phony snobs if you tried. So that soured me a lot on religion in general, if not just my own.
It's very important to FH, so I knew we'd always get married in his church. We have to anyways, or he'd be excommunicated. Even though I'm not overtly religious, I do feel more comfortable in his church than my own, so I will probably convert in the near future. Our future children will have to be brought up Greek Orthodox as well, so I think it will be easier and less confusing for them if both of their parents are the same religion.

We are getting married in a Church. It's called Our Lady of Hope and it's in Middle Village. It's my parish from when I was a kid and it's been my mother and grandmother's parish since ... ahh maybe over 40 years ago?? My grandmother's been living across the street from it for soooo very many years. From way back before the church was even built. She contributed a lot of money... even had my grandfather's name written on the wall (I never met him - died before i was born). I went to school and was a brownie there. I always knew I would get married there. Whenever there was a wedding there we would go watch it.
FH father is a deacon and he always wanted his father to marry him. FH is 1 of 5 and his father married 2 of his siblings (1 was married outside upstate and the other isn't married yet). We were able to have his father marry us in my family's parish so it worked out well. i was a little worried about fighting over where to get married - at one time we thought his father had to marry us in his parish to be able to marry us.. but it turns out that isn't the case.

I'm trying to think of what year I graduated 8th grade.. i know i started HS in 94 so i would have graduated in June of 94 then right? Why does this seem so confusing tome right now? ha ha ha!
I was there for kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade.

We didn't really want a mass either. but FFIL and my mother and grandmother are kind of insistant on it. so we might do it just to please them.

Are you getting married in a Church? YES BECAUSE WE HAVE TO! IF WE HAD THE CHOICE WE WOULD GET MARRIED ON THE BEACH SOMEWHERE. OUR PARENTS WANTED US TO AND WE HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF RESPECT FOR THEM (AND THEY ARE PAYING FOR THE ENTIRE WEDDING)
If so, which one? IMMACULATE CONCEPTION RC CHURCH IN WESTHAMPTON BEACH
Is this your parish church or FH's or another? NEITHER- OUR PARISH WAS NOT VERY ACCOMMODATING! AND THE PRIEST WAS KIND OF RUDE...
Are you having a full mass or just a ceremony? FULL MASS
Why did you choose this? OUR PARENTS ARE DEVOUT CATHOLIC AND WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!
Is there anything about your wedding ceremony that is especially meaningful to you and FH? NO, WE HAVEN'T GIVEN IT MUCH THOUGHT. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS PRETTY STRICT WITH THESE KINDS OF THINGS
