Hi Girls! I am loving reading your responses!!!

Todays question comes about (after having no clue what to ask you today) from something that literally just happened to me.

FH and I have been in contract to purchase a home since July!!!
It’s a short sale and we have been waiting on the bank to approve our offer so the sellers could get rid of the home for less then they own on the Mortgage. You would think that after 2 ½ years of the owners not paying their Mortgage and the fact that they no longer live there and the bank is now paying Taxes, Gas/Electric and Water they would take the only offer on the house they have had in years!!!
But no… we were just denied and told we need to increase our offer by 50K!!!

Sooo…

FH and I lived in an apartment for almost two years. We were in contract for a house so we decided not to renew our lease and are currently living in a house my Dad bought to fix up and sell.

I’m actually happy living on Long Island (Nassau County) and I think if I moved it would be to NJ to be closer to my family and get more for my money!!!

Nov.22, 2010 we closed on our house. We were suppose to close the beginning of Nov. so we had already asked a bunch of people to help us move on Black Friday. Well the seller attorney lost of down payment check and didn't tell anyone. Our attorney had to call him several times until finally he got him on the phone and the seller's attorney was like well they can send a new check and we can do this after Thanksgiving. Good thing my lawyer was awesome and was able to get us to close before Thanksgiving but it did only give us a three days to paint and put the carpet down before we moved in Thus the reason I had bright orange walls for a year (so not the color that was on the paint card)
FH was actually going to propose on our 1 year in the house but he couldn't wait any longer

Wow Court.. that must be so upsetting to wait that long only to be denied. But u know what, just means it wasnt meant to be and something better will come along that will make u say Im so happy we didnt get that last house! Good luck on your future searches.

As for FH and I, we live together. We rent a 1 bedroom basement apt of a private house. I was living here alone for almost 4 years then FH moved in. I love my apt, and that fact that we dont pay utilities, but we are starting to run out of space. Esp since FH has a daughter who comes to visit on some wknds.

We were going to wait until after or a lil b4 the wedding to move into a bigger apt so we could save the extra $$ but there is a chance we will be able to move into the 1st flr apt above us which is 2 bedrooms and more spacious. The neighbors above us are in the process of getting evicted. They are taking FOREVERRR to leave but my landlord tells me their time should be up soon. So lets see how it all works out.

Eventually in the future after the wedding we want to buy either a house or condo but not sure where. I would love to stay in the Bx and be close to work but Im sure its very expensive and u really dont get a lot of space.. houses are so close to each other and no yard space. Id be willing to also look in Queens, Westchester, LI or NJ. Just as long as my commute isnt too long.

If I could live anywhere it would be someplace with beautiful weather and no snow! Id love Cali, Miami (or near) or even Vegas.

That really sucks!! That's crazy that they would rather pay all the bills than just accept your offer. I am so so sorry that happened to you! A short sale is worth it a lot of times and I would do it but I know it could be a hassle! UGH!!

FH and I live in a mother daughter and my mom and grandma live upstairs. It is a true mother daughter because its exactly the same on both floors...LR, EIK, 1 bath, 3 bedrooms and dining room. me and my brother grew up upstairs and my grandma always had the first floor. When my dad left my mom grandma moved upstairs and FH and I took the downstairs so my mom could afford the house. I mean the rent is good for a 3 bedroom and my mom didn't give us a cheapo deal because she just can’t afford it so I understand that. What she wants to do is in a few years we buy the house from her and she moves to a smaller house. Grandma can't move too well anymore so a small one story ranch would work best for them. Hopefully a 55 and over community or a small house with not too much land. FH and I and our son will live upstairs and raise our family there and I will start a daycare on the first floor. I just have to see what my mom wants to do because I don’t want her to struggle at all since she went through enough with my dad leaving.

If that whole big plan doesn't work then FH and I will buy a hi ranch or mother/daughter house like the one we are in and so the same thing. I guess my mom would have to rent to strangers which she would hate but I eventually have to have my own home. My dream location to live would be Georgia or North Carolina just because we love it there and it's warm. I have a blood disorder that makes me get really, really cold and it makes my body hurt so somewhere warm would be ideal but I really do love LI and our family is here so for now we shall stay!

FH and I have been living together since Dec ’06. He owns a house in FL that I originally moved into with him.

When we moved to NY, we moved in with his parents for a few months so we could apartment search. Well, a few months into apartment searching his grandpa got really sick. FH’s Grandma is his world, so we went to stay with her for a few days while his Grandpa was in the hospital. His Grandma won’t stay overnight alone. This was Spring of ’08. His Grandpa passed away that summer. Needless to say, we haven’t left his Grandma’s. FH renovated the basement into an apartment for us, but we have full run of the house. We cook upstairs and help take care of Grandma. She’s the sweetest lady!!

I want to go back home to FL to be close to my family! Or Az – My older sister is having a baby in August and I would love to be close to her. I hate the cold and snow!!

Good luck with your house search! I've heard the process is can be very frustrating. Just remember – what’s meant to be will be!

I actually still live with my dad, l lived here for all of my life. I know im such a child, but I help my dad with rent
Fh lives with his mom. After the wedding we will be moving into together into our own space. IM not quiet sure where, but some where in LI.
If I could pick where to live, would be upstate NY, alot of land, cheaper living. But my dream place is California, LA baby!!! NO snow

FH and I currently live with my mother, she bought a huge house years ago and didn't expect my brother and I to leave that soon, but we did but now I am back. We have the whole upstairs to ourselves which is great, would love a private entrance but oh well.

We did have an apartment for about a year, but moved into my moms to save some money. miss the apartment but that's okay.

We plan on buying a house after the wedding, paying the whole wedding off before the wedding and using the gift money and some of our saved money as a down payment hopefully. We want to look a little more west in Suffolk county then we are now. FH would love to move down south or upstate where it is a lot cheaper, but I don't want to yet, not until after the wedding and we have one child lol!

We don't live together, we both live at home with our parents. I've never lived on my own haha. My fiance' moved out during college, but returned after.
My family isn't into the living together before marriage stuff, so we're waiting until the wedding/right before the wedding to live together.
We will be living on Long Island, close to my family because I'm a huge baby!

I currently live at home with my mom. FH lives on his own. After we get married my dad is going to give us his house and he will move out of NY; he is tired of the cold weather. Recently my mom and I were talking and we decided that I wouldn't be moving into my father's house right after we get married. We will be living at my mother's house in the first floor apartment (she turned the house into a 2 family house). She'll move upstairs into one of the empty rooms. We will have the first floor and the basement. This will give us enough time to save money after paying for the wedding and by then FH will be done paying off his car. I'm happy to not be leaving my mother right away and my aunt is also happy about that. I'm my mother's right hand and she also spoils me.

I love NY but I do not like the cold weather (but I can deal with it) and the snow (especially the snow). So if we could move somewhere maybe it would be down south where there is no snow.

I currently live with FH in an apartment in my parent's house. I love it!!!! We have 2 bedrooms so we converted one into an office and we have a nice sized living room & kitchen! We pay rent.. probably half about as much as we should.. so we love it!

Eventually, I would loveeee to buy a house with FH but it's a bit complicated due to my wonderful MIL. My FH, after much pleading from MIL, became a cosigner for the current house MIL lives in because she already has a house in Texas. The 'plan' is that she will sell the one in Texas, refinance the one out here, and FH will come off of it so we can purchase our own. Hopefullyy.. this all works out exactly as planned!!

We would love to stay out in Long Island and I loveeeeeeee St. James.. just not the prices! LOL After living in Brentwood, I want to move to a super calm, super quiet town!

FH (John) and I live togetber in an apartment in Dix Hills. We neither own or rent it. It is actually provided to me as part of my package with working at the college. They take care of all expenses for the apartment, including utilities, phone, cable, internet, and any repairs. It's very small, but it's just enough room for the two of us and since we don't have to pay anything I feel blessed that I can save that money and put it towards the wedding.

-If you could live one place in the entire world, where would it be?

I honestly have no idea yet. The only thing that comes to mind is a space large enough to accommodate children, which we don't have now. In the future, I can't wait to have a home of our own, but for now I feel our living situation is just right.

Ugh! That stinks. When we first started looking at houses our real estate agent warned us about short sales. You would think they would want to be rid of the house and get someone in who will actually pay! Sorry that happened. Good luck with your hunting!

The FH and I live together. We own our house out in Ridge (about 15 minutes away from the Riverhead outlets) and I love it. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! We live in a wonderful neighboorhood. We just celebrated our 1st year in the house

As far as frustrating house stories- I was just annoyed that we found the house so quick, put an offer, got an accepted offer, did the inspection (All within 1 week!) and then waited 3 months before closing. Never found out what the hold up was, but when you get everything done, it's definitely frustrating to just sit and wait around!

Thats only beause we've been lucky this winter so far. Last winter was a nightmare!!
