**QOTD 3/21/14**

So I spent a good chunk of time yesterday looking online for jobs and postdocs for when I graduate. It is so frustrating and time consuming! It got me wondering, what types of jobs do you and FH have?

I am hoping to finish my PhD this year in Biomedical Engineering. My research investigates the effects of static magnetic fields on gene expression. I love it, except for when experiments go wrong (which they always do) and I lose a lot of time invested. I've been looking for research jobs, one at a government agency would be ideal, but a postdoc at a university may be the more realistic option. FH and I are hoping to move to DC because a majority of his field is stationed there. He is graduating in May with a national security related master's degree. He has a few job prospects, but nothing definite yet. It scares me not knowing what we will be doing or where we will be within the next few months!

Looking forward to hearing what you guys do! Enjoy your Friday :)

I am a special education teacher. I work with children that have autism. I am currently working in a public school as a full year leave replacement, unfortunately the teacher that I am covering this school year is coming back next year. I have heard horrible things about her, that she doesn't have the passion any more nor the desire to be here. It is sad. The population of children I work with really needs someone that loves what they do and strives to make their lives and the lives of their families better. I am very sad to be leaving and do not want to. The worst part about it is that administration does not want her back they wanted me to stay but she has a contract.... this is where tenure sucks. Enough about me ha! FH works in technology and the IT world. He could go anywhere, so if after the wedding I do not have a full time, public school teacher job, we will most likely move out of state. :)

FH and I both went to college and graduated with our degrees in education (I'm certified birth-6th in general and special education and he is certified in 5-12th in Math. Neither of us have been able to find jobs in our areas since we graduated in May 2012. I worked as a teacher of toddlers for a daycare for crap pay and got excessed due to low enrollment in October. Now I'm working as a nanny (best thing to happen to me financially.. I'm making more than twice what I was before and it's all cash). FH decided to go back to school to get his MBA in Accounting and completely change career paths. He's about to finish his first year and should graduate May 2016 (hopefully earlier), hence our long engagement. He's working now at a for-now job assembling circuit boards while he goes to school at night and tutors when he can.

It's rough out there right now! And the worst part is I don't have a clue what else I want to do besides teach! I've been thinking about becoming a medical assistant or something like that but I'd make a lot less than I make now.. Grown up life stinks.. can we please go back to High School when life was simple and I thought everything would just be perfect?

So nice to see so many special education teachers on here! I worked at BOCES for a few summers and subbed and absolutely loved it. That's what I would be doing if not BME. And I totally know what you mean, DebOst, those kids really need someone who wants to be there for them and that cares, not someone that is just in it for the paychecks. Autistic kids were my favorite population to work with at BOCES :) It sucks that it is so hard for teachers to get hired, especially on Long Island. I have a bunch of friends that still don't have jobs (we graduated college in 2009) and are only working as subs. Definitely about who you know!

As you can tell by my user name, I'm a children's public librarian lol..I have my bachelor's in Special Ed/Elementary Ed and my master's in Library Sciences(school media & public certification).. I love my job! I still get to use my teaching skills, but it's a different experience. I would call my FH an entrepreneur. He has 2 established businesses in utility locating and sewer/drain cleaning. He's always looking to make $$ somehow! haha

I work in accounting.. as an auditor for a public accounting firm. FH just graduated the police academy on July 2, 2013 (the day we got engaged!) and is an MTA police officer. So if you ride the trains or are in Penn Station often you might have seen him!
