What is the one thing about your wedding that someone else wants you to have but you refuse to give in to?
For us it was a full mass at the church. FH's parents really wanted us to have a full mass. But I refuse to. I'm catholic, and he's episcopal. We're getting married in a catholic church. I refuse to have a mass at my wedding when the groom (and his entire family) can't receive communion.
FMIL was giving us grief for the longest time about this saying how it's such a great way to start a marriage, blah, blah, blah. It's probably the one and only thing that I've put my foot down on and refuse to budge.

im given pretty much free reign thankfully and my mom likes most of the stuff im picking out, but the only thing we sometimes have an issue on is guest list and why were inviting certain people

My mom wanted us to pay the DVD of Fh proposing to me right before we are announced into the RH... NO WAY!!!! Everything will be all hyped up announcing in the parents, the BP... then all the sudden, right before we are to walk in......
CUT!!!!! & watch TV for a minute.. uh-uh, no way, ain't happnin'
She thought it was the best idea ever... I was like your crazy and get it out of your head bc it's not happening....
She tried a few times to convince me i think she has since given up.

HIs mother tries to add her two cents in about everything we do...I dont listen to her ever...
The best was when we went to the hall with her and she kept saying oh you should have this flower and this flower, I kept telling her, We cant have those flowers I am allergic to them, I will have an allergy attack and will have to be taken to the hospital on my wedding day....OHHHHH BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE THOSE FLOWERS YOU HAVE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I am pretty much doing what I want for our wedding..it's early so I might still be a little tired now but I am sure by mid morning I will have a list lol

Mine is the opposite. Its what I want and they dont want me to have. Its a Wedding. My parents think that since I have been married before I shouldnt have a wedding.They feel I should do as my brother and get married in Vegas. Its actually horrible, everytime I book something I get, 'i wouldnt do it that way or you brother didnt do it that way'. You know what though, thats ok because it mine and FH day and we will do as we please!!!!!

my parents wanted us to get married in a church, but we refused since FH is an atheist and im not religious...they were upset but got over it

We are having the same issue Laura! I am catholic and FH is also episcopal. The church we are having it at won't even let us have full mass.
But the thing I won't budge on is many of the things FMIL suggests! One of the crazy things she was pushing was to grow the flowers for my bo-ks and centerpieces and to make them ourselves. And she keeps bringing it up even after I said no!

I know my mom wishes we would get married at my parish but there's just so many reasons why that's not happening....
1) I have said since I've been about 9 that I'm not getting married there bc it's not pretty, it's dark and small lol
2) The pastor isn't nice
3) Traffic on a Friday during rush hour coming from Staten Island to Long Island??? I don't think so we'd miss the entire wedding lol
On the other hand though I do wish I could get married there just so like people from my grammar school who I used to like etc. that didn't give me the time of day could see me all hot in my dress hahahaha however not worth it enough so St. Christopher's it is in LI lol.

Not much...
i think it will happen when it comes to flowers. I'm set on having my willow brances with orchids and hydranga. She wants me to have more flowers and stuff but it's not my thing.

i think fh's parents would have liked us to get married in a church but they are ok that we aren't. we have some ppl who are very opinionated about things we choose but we basically don't care what other people are telling us to do...

The only thing is that the preist we are using likes to play the guitar and sing a Chrisitan song...he did it during my sister's wedding and my parent's wanted it in our wedding too....
We really DON'T want that though!!! But I do feel bad and if I can talk FH into it we'll do it just for my parents
