*~*~* QOTD *~*~*~ 3/8/10

What are your Ex-pectations after you get married?

Do you or your FH have keepsakes of past relationships? An old boyfriend's sweater, photos, love letters, etc? Do you both plan to chuck these items when you become husband and wife? Have you done so already?

What are your reasons for chucking? What are your reasons for saving?

A year or so after I moved into my FH's place, I found his drawer of old stuff. There were birthday and holiday cards but there was also a few pictures of Exes, a valentines gift, and a cruise album with his longest ex of 3 years. I wasn't angry - after all, I have some stuff from old flames back at my parents house. But I wasn't happy to be living in the same place with his ex gfs either! I showed them to FH and he said he didn't even know they were there and he threw them away.

I was glad he did - it made me feel like these other girls didn't mean a thing.

When I talked about the incident with one of my friends, she completely disagreed! She plans to keep all her stuff from past loves - it's just memories.

What do you think?

interesting q... love it!

i actually don't have anything from my past ex's.. and neither does my FH. i'm still friends with many of my ex's as is he... but that's where it ends. the past is the past and that's what got us to where we are today.. but we've started a life together.. so the only memories in the house should be ours.

I have nothing from past relationships. I was married before and I almost chucked my wedding photos but my Mom took the albums and video just to keep them bc there were pics etc of relatives that are gone now.

Anthony moved in with me so he didn't take anything from the past with him.

WE agreed it bothered both of us. In fact years ago, we had a huge argument over it bc I had stuff in my basement. I eventually went through it all and dumped it.

I chucked everything already. I used to have boxes of my high school boyfriend, and then a box of my boyfriend from 18- after college. I threw them both out a loooooong time go. There was no reason to hold onto them. I don't have anything of either of then, except if my mom has some pictures or I have some in albums. Besides that everything is gone.

I dont like clutter!

Got rid of most things - except a guitar that was purchased for me. Actually, planning on Tri-County to get rid of old jewelry this week!

I know FH has a drawer of stuff like this - but I'd imagine he'll get rid of it when we move in together. It doesn't really bother me at all.

pretty everything has already been chucked. I know somewhere in the attic at my mom's house I have a box full of stuff from my previous relationship right before FH and funny enough my mom had asked me if there is anything in the attic she can get rid of because she's wants to clean up there. I told her you can throw everything out I don't care lol. I feel there is no need to keep anything around. It's just clutter, it's stuff that quote frankly doesn't matter to me/affect me anymore, and things in the past are best kept in the past.

I'm in the process of packing to move so I've found a bunch of photos and keepsakes and stuff from my last serious bf of 3 yrs. I didn't even know I still had them, but I chucked everything. It didn't end well and I don't need any reminders of that time in my life so everything I find goes right in the garbage.

I think the only hard ones to chuck for me are a few letters that my HS bf wrote me when we were 16. I could care less about him but I think it's just cute in general reading what a 16 year old writes another 16 year old.

I got rid of most of my ex's stuff, Im sure I still have some things like cards and pictures that will be thrown away when we move in together

after my ex-fiance and i broke up, i kept everything we gve each other and little trinkets like movie ticket stubs and stuff like that.

when i met my FH i dumped all of it because it was time to move on and i didn't want to keep any reminders of a different time in my life.

Fh doesn't have anything from any of his ex's and we weould both have a huge problem with it if we did.

Everything is gone from my past ex's. I may have some jewlery laying around that i keep meaning to sell back to Tiffany's but I haven't gotten to it. It just sits in a drawer now.

FH has some things from his ex - a TV and a bass guitar. I would never expect him to throw that sorta stuff out - plus i dont look at it as 'stuff she got him' i just look at it as his stuff, does that make sense?

I dont think he has really anything else from her - if he doest, ive never seen it. But when we move in together I am sure he wouldnt bring that sorta stuff into our own home.

Nope, no letters or momentos laying around from exes for either of us. The only thing I still have from an ex is a Movado watch- and that's only because that's one of my only nice pieces of jewelry and I see no reason to get rid of it. I don't think of my ex when I wear it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

FH and I moved in together after dating a few months, and I think it would have been inappropriate for either of us to bring stuff from past relationships to OUR new place. I'm not sure if FH has anything left at his parents' house, but I wouldn't be upset if he did. As long as the stuff isn't in our home, I'm ok with it. I know who he wants to be with

I like the QOTD, nifty idea!

I don't really have anything from any of my exes...none of them were terribly thoughtful (or lasted long enough to be thoughtful ....I tended to part ways if I wasn't happy), so I literally have no gifts, cards, etc.

As for FH, I'm sure there's stuff around here, but I don't know what it is/isn't, so not really a problem.

So I guess if either of us had/has stuff not sure what I would say, but I guess it's not really an issue at this point for us

ugh - i never throw anything out and i really should. I have no reasons for holding onto anything - more just too lazy to throw it out. but it's not like i ever look at anything so now thanks to this QOTD, i'm going to get rid of it all - just taking up my purse and shoe space

i have a few pics but they are not in our apt...they are in my parents house

and same with him

i really dont believe in throwing in photos away, no matter who is in them

I dont have anything from my past relationships anymore. I threw them out once I knew I was completely done with my ex.

At the beginning of our relationship, I did find old pics of FH and his ex. Noting sleazy, just pics of them together. I wasn't mad but I questioned as to why he still has them since they broke up over 5 years ago. FH told me that he completely forgot about them because they were in a drawer that he doesn't use and he threw them away.

Neither fh or myself kept anything... I have high school prom pics with old bf in them but that's it :)

I may have a few pictures left from ex's, but only those who I remained friends with. Oh yeah, and my Kitchen Aid, that some guy I dated for two months bought me. But I love that darn thing.
