Hi Everyone! Today's question is:Has your job gotten in the way of any wedding planning (or vice versa)?
I've had an extremely difficult time meeting with LI vendors because I work in the city and often till 6 or 7pm. Photographers and bands don't meet that late and have weddings on weekends. One band didn't seem to grasp that I could not take a day off from work to meet with them. Also, my job can be very stressful at times, which puts me in a bad mood and makes me not want to plan!

Thankfully not much. I get out at 4 but sometimes I have meetings and conferences after school but it's not too bad. FHs job has gotten in the way if anything. He's supposed to get out it 5 but usually doesn't until 6- 6:30 so I can't really make any appointments and he works a lot of Saturdays too. it's hard to get stuff done together sometimes.

Its been a bit difficult meeting with vendors when I dont get home til 7 most nights and the only time FH is off is weekends. But there are some that were willing to work with my schedule which was a plus and shows accomodation which I like.
as for the diy ive kinda given up on a lot because I just dont have the time between 2 jobs 2 dogs and the gym (gotta work on that wedding body! )

Not really. FH and I both work in the city and have long days and commutes. But.. I think we were lucky we got engaged in December, so when we were booking all of our major vendors last winter most were available on the weekends to meet. If they couldn't meet on the weekend then we just had to meet after 8:00pm. Wasn't so bad.

YES! I work in the city in public accounting so I've been working 6 days a week with extended hours since January. The only day I can make any appointments is on Sunday (when a lot of places aren't open). We got engaged in September so I was counting on getting everything done early in November/December, but then Hurricane Sandy came and took over my life. I'm juggling 70 hours working/commuting, wedding planning, and trying to rebuild my home. I am beyond overwhelmed.
With all this stress, I've definitely gained 5-10 pounds when I need to be losing it. As soon as my hours get better (hopefully next week) I am signing up for a personal trainer.

I'm a librarian at a public library and I work with some of the nicest ladies.. they have actually helped plan a lot of things! Being at a computer all day long has actually been somewhat of a hindrance in getting my job done though because I'm always looking wedding stuff up! lol..

Not really. Winter is a super slow time at my job, so I was able to accomplish all of my DIY projects last winter! This Winter, I was able to fine tune everything and get us organized early which has been a godsend! My bosses are really good about if I need to get out at a certain time/need to take off for whatever reason (to meet with vendors, my shower, etc.)

We have the same problem as you! FH doesn't get home from work until about 6-7 from the city and he's always tired!

Same here, although I work on the island. I can not wait until the 15th!! Thankfully this Saturday is my last Saturday to work so atleast I will now have 2 days off! I am also going to school for my masters so I am barely home. Crunch time starts in May when all my busyness is over!

Re: *QOTD* 4/4
A few months back I had a 'meeting' with my boss about it. She sits right next to me and basically accused me of wasting time by doing planning stuff at work. I was furious.Truthfully, I really don't do a lot - maybe a few phone calls here or there but I work LONG hours and I literally have no other time to make calls and stuff during regular business hours.
I was so mad and I was complaining about it to FH but he put it in context for me: my boss is in her 50's and never married (except to her job) and next to me who's half her age and happy. Maybe on some level she just doesn't understand why someone would need that time but I personally think she was just being bitter

It was hard to meet with vendors at night because FH doesn't get off the train til 7. But we were fortunate because we got engaged in December so we met with most of them in the 'off-season' so they could see us on the weekend.Liweddings chat is blocked at my job so it couldn't really interfere. I definitely google things during lunch though!

Yes, there is so much I want to do but I forget because I'm working. So I have to cram it all in on the weekend.

Luckily, my job was very flexible if I needed to take time off or leave early for appts. When I wasn't too busy I was able to work on wedding stuff. I used to be upset if I was too busy at work to work on wedding things.
I did most of the wedding stuff during the weekends.

My job 100% interfered w my wedding... I'm an attorney in manhattan and work long hours.. I had to do all my meetings on the weekends, or leave early which was not fun. Also, the month of feb right before my wedding, I was doing trial prep on a big case and working late every night, plus weekends.. Which totally interfered. There were things I wanted to do for the wedding and never got to. All of this led me to have a little bit of a breakdown right before the wedding when I finally had 3 days off before it.Welcome New Vendors
