QOTD - 4/10

QOTD - 4/10

I was thinking of my grandparents yesterday and how much they would love Andy and be so happy for me. They would have been in their early 90's but they would practically have tripped over themselves to be at my wedding. I was their first grandchild, their only for 12 years and they helped Mom raise me until she could get back on her feet after her divorce.

It's weird I know, but it seems like they have somehow been helping FH and I get things rolling. We were engaged on their wedding day, FH didn't know it was, he was trying to propose away from birthdays and holidays. It was great - like getting their blessing. We are being married at a church they and their kids attended when they had a small bungalow out in Baiting Hollow. We are having the reception a stones throw from Calverton National Cemetery, where they are. We didn't realize how close until after we booked.

So it got me to wondering, is any special family member missing from your day due to being passed?

Are your special family members missing due to the military?

What if anything are you doing to remember them / incorporate them at your wedding?

I am probably going to have their pictures on small dangles on my bouquet. Mom is going to give me the necklace my grandmother bequeathed to me. Andy is going to wear my grandfathers tie clip under his vest, it goes with the colors and I don't need to see it to know it's there.

I hope I haven't bummed you out today, having you miss you loved ones, but if you haven't thought about it this is a good way to start coming up with ideas.

It's not depressing, it's reality. Between the 2 of us, my Grandpa is the only one around. We made a photo collage of all those who passed that we wish were still here. Especially my uncle that was only 13 years older than me and his cousin that was around the same age. They both passed away in their 30s. His cousin's 2 kids will be there so at least they'll be there in spirit. I'm also having my grandmother's rosary beads incorporated into my bouquet. My grandpa had asked me if I wanted any after she passed and I saw the white beads and knew exactly what I'd do with them. My engagement ring was also her mother's :)

This question is eerie for me as my paternal grandfather goes in for surgery in two weeks to remove areas in his body affected with cancer :( I am hoping he pulls through with flying colors.

FH's paternal grandmother (and his last living grandparent) passed away shortly after we officially began dating but I was lucky enough to have gotten to know her over the previous year when we were 'just friends.' She used to pray we would get together ::sniffle:: We will incorporate her into the slideshow as well as his uncle who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last year.

We will be missing several of our grandparents but most of all I will be missing my grandmother. She passed away when I was 16, 2 weeks before I would meet my FH. We were very close, I grew up in her house after my parents divorced. My life has changed so much since her passing and I wish she was here to see it all and I especially wish she was here to celebrate my wedding and maybe even have gotten to meet a great grand baby or 2. I will be thinking of her a lot that day.

Fh doesn't have any living grandparents but more so my dad passed away when I was 8. We will have a memorial table with pictures of his parents, my dad, and my cousin, and aunt who passed 16 and 14 years ago. Also I am Attaching a picture of my dad to my shoe so he can 'walk' me down the aisle.

That is adorable! Such a sweet gesture

FH grandmother passed away when he was in college. He decided to get cuff links with her picture on it so that she can be with him all day. I am so excited for his side of the family to see it and all remember her on his special day!

I don't have any living grandparents and FH's two grandmothers both still live in Colombia, so they're not going to make it. But the biggest void at my wedding will be my dad. He died in 2007, 9 days after my daughter was born. I'm going to have a bouquet charm with his pic, so he's with me while I walk down the aisle. And my sister is putting together a stop motion video to play in place of the father/daughter dance. It really does bum me out every time I think of it and literally not a day has gone by that I don't wish he was still here. But, my wedding day is, quite by accident, on my step-mothers birthday, so there will be lots to celebrate.

I'll have 3 grandparents missing. I was going to have wedding photos of them displayed on the card table. I will also be wearing my grandmothers necklace so that a part of her is with me. And we are going to have the rabbi do a blessing for loved ones who are not able to join us on our day.

Both FH and I have lost all of our grandfathers, and we each only have 1 living grandmother left. I also lost my uncle/godfather which is very sad… we will be honoring them with some photos and this saying at the reception: 'We know you would be here today, if heaven wasn't so far away'

I have no grandparents that are still living and FH has lost both his grandfathers. As sad as it is not to have them with us on our wedding day, I think it's awesome FH's little Italian grandmas are so excited for our wedding. Both are over 90 so we know how lucky we are to get to share this with them!

I will be missing both my parents and there will be no grandfathers on either side. I'm still on the hunt for my mom's veil to wrap around my bouquet. I'm walking myself down the isle and didn't want the pictures on the bouquet because people will comment and it's bad enough that so many will say how 'they're watching' or 'if your parent's could see how beautiful' I hate it, so I don't want to draw attention to more comments. I have a pretty big tattoo on my back with both their dates on it so they're there anyways lol and I'll have wedding pictures and whatnot.

people mean well but that doesn't make it any easier with this sort of thing. I lost my mom almost 10 years ago to cancer. The only grandparent still living is my FH. We plan to have a memorial table with photos to honor our lost loved ones and will also mention my mother during the ceremony

I had a sister that passed away as well as my father's parents. I never met my Grandmother but I was very close with my Grandfather. I wish they could have been there.
