QOTD 4/3

QOTD 4/3

Stemming from another post about the stresses of how much money our wedding is costing all of us lets try and turn it positive.
The largest expense of our day is the venue so what made you pick your venue? What did you and your FH love about it most?

We are getting married at Larkfield. I never planned on a big wedding but FH has a very close family and wanted to share this day in a big way. We looked a quite a few places our date wasn't negotiable but we were so far out the date was still free at most places. We know a lot of people that got married before the construction or attended weddings and they all raved about the food. This was the most important part to FH the food and for me I liked that it was new. When we first went we met the owner Harry and we knew this was the place for us.

FH and I had a hard time choosing a venue. I pretty much did all of the leg work. We ended up looking at Smithtown Landing CC after I begged him to come look with me because we couldn't agree on a venue and I liked that they had an all inclusive option. When we got there, it was a beautiful day and we were able to roam the grounds and look around. I fell in love with the ballroom. There was just something magical, and for whatever reason, he loved the place as well. And then o fcourse we asked them for a tasting and booked right on the spot. The steak was amazing and I'm not a steak person. It was just important that we both loved it. And the staff was super helpful answering my millions of questions.

I always knew I wanted to get married at the East Wind, but never thought I would be able to afford it. So when I heard about the all inclusive option, we made an appt to go. We both fell in love with the place, and everyone is SO nice there. They've made everything super easy, and have been wonderful answering my million questions! When I start thinking about it, I get so excited!!

$$$ is so stressful ahhhhh LOLOL

I knew I wanted to get married at Chateau Briand long before I got engaged. My FH and I had been to an event probably 6 years ago there and I loved it. It's different and thats what I liked most I have been to a million weddings and been a bridesmaid a million times and I wanted something that felt fresh. Since we had been there they redid the ballroom and the whole outside area as well so that made me 100% sure this was my place

I agree with a lot of you, venue decision was pretty tough and took us a few weeks. I pretty much knew I loved bridgeview the second we walked through the door. The cocktail hour room is big and the new beautiful bar looked amazing! The bridal suite was GINORMOUS and also had it's own bar/ balcony which i loveeeeeeed. The deal was sealed when we saw the ballroom. I couldnt get over how much I loved the high, draped ceiling and all the windows out to the water. FH and I knew we could picture ourselves having an awesome time at our wedding. Every time we go back for a payment, tasting, etc.. i fall more in love with it!

SO excited one of my BMs is getting married their fall '15! I'm seriously obsessed

What we loved most about our venue was the view of the Great South Bay and the outdoor ceremony space!

I liked the overall vibe I got from the place. The location fit us as I didn't want to go too far out in Long Island, since most of the guests are in the boroughs. We had been to a wedding there many years ago and one at Fox Hollow (owned by the same company) so I knew the food was good. I just knew, ya know? lol

Venue searching was not fun! Haha we fell in love with everything about our venue. And that fact that we actually agreed, we had to pick it!!

Re: QOTD 4/3

Our venue was the first we saw and I hated the woman that showed it to us! We left and checked out a bunch more but FH still brought up Riviera and I could tell he really loved it (for the view of the water, and the rustic feel.) So we made one more appointment with someone else and ended up booking it on the spot, with one added detail. That I never had to deal with the first woman that showed us around.

We got married at Floral Terrace. The thing that we loved most about it seemed to be what our guests loved about it too. I had gone about three years ago to look at places with a friend of mine because her fiance lived in NJ and she didn't want to go alone. She made an appointment at Floral Terrace and when we pulled up I said EW! Don't go in there! It just looks like a building you would see anywhere in Manhattan - no grounds or anything like that. When we went in I was literally in awe.

Since it was an old movie theater the architecture is incredible and you totally forget that you're on a main road. When we picked our time of year, we realized that an outdoor area didn't really matter and that we would just take pictures outside. We received a lot of calls from our guests telling us that they were blown away and really loved that it was only one function at a time.

Originally I wanted to get married somewhere where my reception could be on the water. I check out about 10 venues on the water and none of them are 'the one' I was in love with Land's End but the price they wanted to charge for a friday night was ridiculous, that even I couldn't justify it. We decided to check out some venue not on the water and one happened to be westbury manor. One of the main selling points was how beautiful the grounds are in the summer time. We also loved the romantic/rich feel to the manor. The only downfall for me was that there can be more then one wedding going on at a time but honestly all the positives outweighed that. We got lots of 'extras' thrown in so that didn't hurt either. the staff was very nice and honestly when we left it was the only place we kept talking about and picturing ourselves partying in! So we went back about a week later and booked!

i have always hated most of LI's wedding venues. i hate carpets on the floor, the gilded mirrors, etc etc - 'typical' halls. i didn't want anything that felt like a factory.

FH and I had always dreamed of a cape cod wedding, but we couldn't have the wedding there because of my grandparents and other family members who just can't travel that far.

when we walked into three village inn, we knew immediately we would book it. it was so nautical, so cape cod, it was like bringing the cape to LI!

Crashing! Venue hunting was NOT fun. I thought it would be, but FH made sure that was not the case lol. I thought he would be all 'whatever you like baby' but he was a lot more opinionated and questioned everything I said and said I was being too picky! $20K ON A FIVE HOUR PARTY?! I GET TO BE PICKY! He thought it was redic that I didn't like carpet and that I should get over it. No, thank you, sir... kiss my butt.

We narrowed it down to two after seeing about 10 venues. We brought our parents to see both (Fox Hollow and Jericho Terrace).. I had it in my mind that we were booking JT that day. I fell in love the first time we went... but when we went back, we started to see little details we didn't like, even though the price was right and under budget. We fell in love with Fox Hollow on our second visit and seeing how much our parents loved it sealed the deal. I love that there's so much out door space, including a private outdoor space just for our guests, a bridal suite attached to the ballroom, indoor/outdoor cocktail hour and NO CARPET! I can't wait to have our reception there in 875 days!

Picking the venue was one of the easier tasks for us. We looked at Bellport Country Club first. Everyone we met was so nice and accomodating. We knew we wanted to be the only wedding and we knew what our budget was. We looked at another place and the employee wasn't selling it, things were in disarray and definitely not as nice as Bellport. They were both the same price and I just knew that was our ideal place. We took our parents there a week later for a tasting and booked it that night. I also knew someone that was married there about 2 years ago. She was a self-proclaimed bridezilla and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it so I was sold.
