Right now (whether you are married or not) if you had to do the whole thing over again, would you? or would you go for something bigger/smaller, more extravagent/less extravagent, etc?
After 16 months of planning this is my thought: With all the money we spent, I could have taken 25 close friends and family to a nice little island and got married there. If I could do it again, that's where you'd find me!!!

now that we are serious about getting a house i feel like we would have so much more money to furnish a home and backyard instead of going nuts with the wedding - but i do think that our wedding is going to be amazing and i dont regret it - i just think that if we would have done the house first and wedding second, the wedding wouldnt be so extravagant

agreed. Now that we are starting to think about a house, I'm like wow, we could have had a nice down payment with all this money.
Am I excited about our wedding, absolutely, but after all this planning I guess I'm getting restless.

I think that I wouldnt have such a long engagement, but I'd probably still want the wedding. Originally, I wanted to elope and FH wanted a traditional wedding, but now I'm glad we're doing it.

We could have used the money we spent on the wedding on so may other things. I try not to think about it too much. I don't want to look back on the day with any regrets. You only get married once (hopefully)

Re: QOTD
I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! I would have taken more time on some decisions (dress), and hopefully gotten some better weather, but otherwise it was perfect and i loved every second of it.

I absolutely loved every minute of our wedding & loved the planning process too. We only invited our closest family & friends (125 attendance) & I'm really glad we did that. I would do it the same if I had to do it all over again!!! The memories & pictures are pricess

Re: QOTD
While we were on our HM we saw some couples getting married, some with a very small amount of guests and some with no guests. I found myself feeling envious. As much as I loved marrying the man of my dreams, I'm not gonna deny all the drama that happened did take away from the happiness of my day. And I should have known someone would do something to screw it up. I know its a horrible way to think, but I would totally just elope by ourselves if I could do it again.

Okay, here is my question.

I totally agree with you!! I just said the same exact thing to FH the other night!!

Re: QOTD
if i could start from scratch, I would do a much much smaller wedding, no more than 100 people and not care about what people who aren't invited are going to think/say/do. With a small guest list like that, I would have the wedding in the summer, and again not care who is on vacation and will not be there.

Re: QOTD
i would absolutely do it all over again! i would spend the same amount again or more even though we barely got anything back in gifts. DH keeps saying he wants to throw another wedding because it went by so fast and I totally agree.

I couldn't agree more. We've been engaged since January '07. We didn't start planning for a few weeks, but it feels like it's been forever.
Originally FH really wanted to just go to an island or Mexico with our immediate family, paying for those would couldn't pay for themselves. Probably would have cost a quarter of what we're spending. I was the one who wanted the traditional wedding. I'd never tell him now since he'd probably have a heart attack, but if I had to do it again, I'd agree with him.
Then again, once the day is here and we're surrounded by all our friends and family at the RH we absolutely love, I'm sure I'll be happy we went this route!

Re: QOTD
This is a tough one for me...FH and I got married civilly on 5/12 and now the wedding is 9/27. The small little ceremony in the judge's chambers was so nice and intimate, just me, FH (DH), his kids and my daughter. I still want to have the wedding in September, it was just so stress free doing it easier ... and not to mention MUCH less expensive.

Re: QOTD
I have always wanted and pictured a big wedding so I am glad I am doing it that way. It is ALOT of $$$ but we A) have a house already and I am thankful for that B) FH says you only live once...and there is always money to be made!
But still we sit here writing checks and am just ill at the price of this. FOR ONE DAY! And Imagine when are kids get married...it will probably be double this! Costs of things keep going up and our salarys remain at a stand still...not good.

Re: QOTD
it is true, after the wedding you do kinda think ok that was one day of your life, yes the most important(well until we have kids) but still one day, and marriage is for the rest of your life. Sometimes before the wedding we focus too much on that one day, which i was guilty of too i wont deny that. Now i dont sit here regretting my wedding day bc i loved every single moment of it, but I do think about all the aggrevation for 2 years and sometimes worrying about such small things when it really didnt matter. Its not worth it to ruin relationships and drive yourself crazy because guess what they day comes and goes and then what.
As far as money-YES!!!! you do think maybe i should've saved more towards things after the wedding, sometimes we think 'oh but we will have all this money from the wedding' you cant count on that. On top of the wedding, Dh needed to clear up some of his school loan so ALOT of money went into paying that off, but that is something that needed to be done, bc that was one decision we made to help us for after we are married to purchase something. I mean it would be great if all of us had more than enough money to spend whatever we wanted on the wedding and then a house and everything else you need after the wedding but thats not the case for most. There are some other things i would've done to save more money.
The best advice i can give, and what i planned to write in my review is to remember that the wedding is just 1 day, but marriage is for the rest of your life. As amazing as the day will be, you need to also focus alot on the day after your wedding and then on. This doesnt mean just money wise but also your relationship with people, your relationship with Dh well fh bc i mean before youre married. Sometimes we have to stop and think that its not worth it to argue about such things, and to cause ourselves so much stress. Its not worth it to cause fights with our friends, and yes i hate to say this but many brides to be are bridezillas and feel they can boss their friends around and boss everyone around them and lose sight of having your friends be part of your day. What happens after the wedding, you showed your true colors to them and that might cause problems, not worth it to lose such friendships, or sometimes its family problems or whatever the case might be
the day itself i absolutely loved every single second of it. It was the best day of my life and would do the day itself all over again, the planning is a whole other thing

Re: QOTD
I have always wanted a traditional wedding where I got married in a church, wore a big, white gown and walked into a RH as a new Mr. and Mrs......BUT, I would say that this whole thing is just so much money. Who in the HECK would pay so much for FLOWERS or Jordan Almonds for example, on a regular basis OTHER than a bride-to-be? LOL
Who really wants to buy all those small things that cost ten times more because it has 'Bride' or 'Wedding' attached to its purpose????
Don't get me wrong.....in 24 days I will be estatic to see how it all comes together and can't wait to wear the big, white dress and walk down the aisle to marry my FH. At the same time, I would have also been happy getting married on a tropical beach, under the sun and in the sand.....I'm definitely thinking of renewing our vows that way!

Re: QOTD
I wouldn't change a thing. We invited our whole extended family and it's really wonderful. Our engagement party was big, my shower was huge and our wedding will be just right - 180 guests.
It has been really great getting back in touch with our family.

Re: QOTD
NO WAY!!!! As much as I cannot wait for my wedding day- I would never go through all this stress again. I would rather go to an island somewhere and whomever could afford to come would be there. Then I would take whatever money I had left over and put it towards a house- or maybe some of my credit debt. I hope and pray that I change my outlook after the wedding but I highly doubt it sorry to be such a downer. HUGE fight with FH tonight.

I would change certain thing about the wedding, but I would still have it.
