Happy Memorial Day! Excited to be the new BOTW.

Last week FH and I were discussing the dream of winning Powerball. We have pretty different ideas of how our lives would change if we won, so I felt inspiration for a question.

Part 1.
If you or FH won a $250 million Powerball, what would you do with it? What would FH want to do with it?

Part 2.
How would an endless money supply change your wedding? What would you do differently than you're doing now?

Part 1.
The biggest disagreement between me and FH about winning the Powerball or lottery, is that I would still work. I LOVE my job and he thinks I'm crazy for still wanting to work. I don't trust money and I wouldn't feel safe that it would never run out. I would definitely donate to charity.

FH would want to give every member of our family enough money so that they wouldn't have to work, which I don't totally agree with. I'd love to help our families pay off debts, mortgages, and loans, but I don't agree with completely supporting everyone's lives. We'd have to draw the line somewhere, maybe by giving each person a certain sum that wouldn't hurt us in the long run.

Also, I'd put most of the money into high-interest savings and live off the interest alone. Plus definitely create college funds for our future children.

I'd still buy a sensible home in a good school district probably somewhere on the north shore in Nassau.

Part 2.
I don't think I'd actually change any of our wedding plans, I love every piece we've planned so far. I probably would buy a new wedding dress, and splurge on even more flowers. I love flowers! I want as many as possible!

I would NOT work. FH probably would because he LOVES his job. We would buy a house on the North Shore of LI and get a huge a$$ boat. I feel like we would travel all the time. I would help out our immediate families and def set up college funds for our children. I feel like we would have like 4-5 kids though because we would afford more then the 2-3 we are planning on having now.

My wedding plans would DEF change. It would be waterfront, id go crazy with flowers. jeez, i can't even imagine what i would do.

Love love love this questiion!! Me and FH were talking about this lasts week too!

When I asked FH if we would change our wedding he said no, that even if he won he would still want everything we are doing now, and would want it to stay at Smithtown Landing Country Club, but said we would just buy the whole country club hahah.

I think it would be great to be able to have both our parents retire and not have to worry. To be able to open a business to do what I love, and not worry about the money, and to be able to buy a home with cash and NEVER have a mortgage!!

I don't think I would need $250 million to make all those dreams come true..just like 10 million lol I'm not greedy! I still don't think I would stay in LI though, as much as I love it here, I think I rather buy a crap load of land somewhere and build homes on it for everyone in my family so all the cousins can grow up together!

My co-workers and I have this exact conversation all the time! I would work, but not at my current job. I'd open an animal shelter that could house the animals for the rest of their lives if need be- no cages, lots of toys and treats and belly rubs! I'd also buy a big house and new cars and invest the rest of it.

Wedding wise, I'd move the whole thing to the city and pay for everyone to stay over. And, like Chaz said, more flowers!

Part 2.

Part 1: I would hire a financial planner, buy two new cars, buy property somewhere on the north shore in one of those gated communities, knock it down and rebuild a custom home. Then I would buy my parents and my FH's parents new homes (both are currently looking for retirement homes) and I would pay off my sister's law school loans :)

Part 2: For the wedding, I would book The Plaza on Fifth Avenue (one of the most expensive wedding venues in manhattan) right off the bat, and would probably get the most expensive vendors in manhattan... For the church, either St. Pat's Cathedral or St. Thomas Church in NYC... I would get custom designed shoes by christian louboutin and would give out favors from tiffany & co... I would also make sure the most expensive champagne was served and we would have lots of lobster! loll....I love my dress, but I would definitely love to contact Vera Wang and have a custom gown made (in my dreams LOL)... I would also buy everyone's dresses, hair, makeup, for my bridal party and all of the tuxes/dresses for the groomsmen and parents... Lastly, I would rent a private island somewhere for the honeymoon :)
If only this could be real!

If we won 250 million, we would also give all of our family money to help support them. We would easily be debt free, and own a home in cash. FH always says he would put it in the bank and not be one of those people who wind up homeless after winning the lottery.

Our wedding would be way different. I don't even know where it would be, but it would be extravagant. My dress budget would go way up, and the honeymoon would be in Bora Bora!

WOW! Love this question. We would put a huge portion of it away in one of those high interest accruing accounts, invest some of it in stocks/bonds, mutual funds etc and we would definitely buy land and build a custom home. We would buy our dream cars, maybe even a boat and we would set up our family, meaning we would pay off anything they had outstanding and give them X to live off of. We would travel all the time!!!!!

Endless money would NOT change our wedding. We are having exactly what we had both always envisioned. The only thing we might change is we would have Rascal Flatts as our band lol

Part 1: I'd buy a nice house and pay off all our loans/other debt. FH would want to go to Hawaii. The rest I think we'd save and use as needed, whether for our own pleasure or to help our families.

Part 2: I'm happy with what we've done for the wedding and I wouldn't do anything differently.

FH has already told me that if we ever won the lotto, we would immediately put half into savings. We would buy a house, and probably buy his mom a house/pay off my parents' mortgage. I couldn't imagine spending more than that on grand things, but it would definitely make my future a little more certain, because we wouldn't have to worry too much about how we're going to afford a family!!

And with that being said, FH would NEVER let us spend an endless supply of money on the wedding. He's freaking out with how much we've spent thus far, and I don't even think it's unreasonable!! LOL. He just doesn't get weddings

Oh man, my friend and I were discussing this the other day. We'd for sure go running to our trusty financial advisors (the nice one who lets us spend SOME of our money!) But we'd pay off any debts and we'd for sure move my mom into a home close by! As for our wedding we'd just pay it all off but probably keep everything the same, maybe add in some extras that we don't necessarily care about too much now but might be fun! We then would dormer our house!

Love this question!

1. If we won I would probably still work but cut down to part time.. I would definitely want to buy a home and hire people to take care of it for us lol. I would put a huge sum away for my niece in a private account and help my family pay off some debt. I would definitely want to invest a large sum or put it away in a high interest account.
What FH said he would do: invest some, spend some, buy a nice house and cars. Definitely give some to my family.
(He's a simple man of not many words lol!)

2. I think if we had an endless supply of money BEFORE starting to plan the wedding things would be totally different. We would have the best of the best with no budget and probably a wedding planner not just a DOC. We would probably be getting married in a barn or somewhere in Brooklyn that requires outside catering and more money than we have lol.
If we came into that money NOW.. Things would be kept the same but I would get rid of the budget and add on all the extra things we can't really afford now.

Haha I'd probably have an entire room for a closet, I will need it to store all my clothes and shoes. I would definitely continue working, since I love my job. FH and I are both cautious people, we would definitely put away majority of the money into a savings account. It would be nice to pay off all our loans. And I would definitely love to be able to take care of my family, pay my dad's medical bills, buy them a small house perhaps..

As for the wedding, we're keeping our guest list at a minimum (only 70 guests) due to our budget, but I would definitely invite a lot more people to our wedding. We would probably spend more on photography/ videography and flowers too. We would definitely pay for our family and friend's stay, probably host them all at a great hotel.

Fh and I were just discussin this recently. I would definitely open my own business after traveling everywhere we wanted to in the world. I'd pay off my moms mortgage and make sure my siblings are taken care of. I would charter a cruise ship and bring my whole family on vacation and set up college funds for my nieces and cousins.
As for the wedding wed fly everyone to ireland and get married there.

If we won the powerball, we'd pay off all our student loans, pay for both our families houses and build our own home complete with horses. I'd donate money to diabetes research and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

If we had an endless supply of money for our wedding- we'd fly everyone to Charleston, SC and have our wedding on a huge plantation outside in spring.

:)

So I actually had this conversation with FH yesterday because I was curious.

1. We would pay off the rest of our debts. We would pay off/buy new cars in cash. We would buy the land for the house he wants to build me. We would buy my mom a condo (she's always had apartments so we want to give her something of her own) and we would send his parents on a trip of a lifetime. We would both still work... I would probably work part time or I would do like... crafts. I would maybe even get back in photography and pursue that. He would focus more on the his business he's trying to get going.

As far as the wedding... we wouldn't change anything. We would keep it as is because we are already having our dream wedding. :)

I have a feeling that we would have the same ideas on what to do with the money...

Settle any debts, college loans etc.... buy his parents house... and feel MUCH better about the wedding budget! haha I would probably talk to him about quitting my job and opening up a dance studio (my lifelong dream) and I have a feeling he would agree to this decision!

I don't know that I would change anything for the wedding as of now.. but I would definitely feel less pressure about prices for everything else we have planned and I might add some fun things to the wedding!
