QOTD 6/13/08

I was tweaking my guest list last night and FH and I were trying to determine what rules we were following for allowing our single friends to bring a date...

We agreed that we had to have a relationship with the other half or they had to be living together or engaged...otherwise they were just a 1 person invite....

anyone else had this convo yet or their own set of rules...

Yes this was definitely a pain in the coolie! We talked about it & then just decided that everyone gets invited with a guest & if they decide to bring one fine & if not thats better! lol We didnt want to drive ourselves nuts. But we also do not have many single friends anymore anyway so it kind of made the decision easier.

Yes we went the same route - but we know that there are some aunts that are widows and that even tho they will not bring a date, we are going to invite them with one anyway to be politically correct - but anyone who is not in a serious relationship isnt invitied with guest....

we did everyone ( well almost) has +guest...and if they choose not to bring someone, fine, if they do they do.

We are only allowing a guest if they are engaged or living together as well. We can only fit so many people so... FMIL wasn't so happy at first because she thought it was rude for everyone not to have a guest, but when we started taking her side off b/c of the guests she understood LOL

I did everyone under 21 no guest.

We have 8 boys ranging from 17-21 (brothers, cousins, nephews) coming.

how about i had to invite people who i dont even know with a guest because my parents who also dont speak to them arent sure if they have a boyfriend/girlfriend or new husband or wife - so these are most likely single adults (40-50 years old) that i had to invite with a guest 'just in case' i was so annoyed over that and guess who is paying for EVERYTHING - FH and I - my parents arent chipping in at all and i'm not even sure if my parents are giving us a gift which i dont care about the gift but it ***** when its costing me money to invite people i dont even know PLUS a guest when it might not even be necessary to invite them with one!

eta: these are people in my family that my parents dont even keep in touch with BUT they wanted to invite

I am having everyone with a guest, but I know some people use the rule of thumb that the couple must be dating at least one year.

yeah i had the same problem with FFIL..he had all these grand plans of all these people I we don't even know plus guests who mind you don't even speak English (my FH is Portuguese) and he was all offended when I was like he cannot invite more than 1 full table for himself and that is including FFIL and FMIL at the table...
It's just irritating b/c I know he does not give gifts to his children for some reason for their weddings..3 of his children have attested to this he waits until he finds something he feels he wants to pay for like paving ur driveway or a video camera.. I know ur pain

We talked about it but haven't cometo any final decisions yet... we will probably just do people that have been dating someone for at least a year.

But then I feel like there's always exceptions... like if I invite one of my friends who hardly knows anyone else there then I feel like they should bring a guest so they're not lonely. Ahhhh I'm not going to worry about this until it's time bc it will drive me crazy.

we're going to let our singles bring dates. we don't know many single people so we don't want the one's that are to be lonely.

Yes.

Only if they have a significant other that we actually know, and have hung out with more than once will be invited. We just don't have the space or money to be inviting people who don't really know us or care.

The next touchy topic is if we are going to set an age limit. I am all for it, but FH is insisting everyone, including his cousins son who will be 2 year old at the time, needs to be there.

our cut off is going to be march...

if any of our guests start casually dating some1 after march, they arent invited to the wedding..
we're on a serious budget and cant afford for everyone to bring a date

We're inviting everyone with a guest. Our guest list isn't tremendous so there's room for guests plus I wouldnt want to get into awkward conversations.
