Can you ladies believe it's June 27th already??? 4th of July is next week! Time really flies and in 2 months I'll be 1 year away from marrying FH!
I know we are spread out in different areas of NY and NYC and some of you ladies have posted about living in different countries. Today's question is about the past and the future.. where are you and FH from and where do you want to be after you get married?
FH is from Colombia and came here when he was 12.. I am from Long Island (Suffolk) but when I turned 19 I moved to Tampa, FL to live with my cousin and best friend for 3 years. I have family in Cape Coral, FL also and ever since I left I've wanted to go back. FH and I have been to FL together 2 times and we're going back again in Fall and we really want to start our life there together. Now Florida is a big state and many people have mixed emotions and bad experiences because there are a lot of bumble **** places down there but when you're in the right spot, it's paradise. We loved that the houses are so new and big and beautiful and AFFORDABLE.. FH works in construction like my cousins husband so he has an 'in' there and I am going to school to be a teacher which I know is a lost cause here on the Island.. I really don't want to teach in the city either.. in Florida I have a hand full of friends who got great jobs right out of college and my cousin is also a teacher and would have no problem helping me out. I also love the weather, I don't want to be 75 and shoveling snow and breaking my back.. I also want to give my kids a better life, I don't want them to have to live in my basement forever! I want them to be able to buy a home and raise a family without being stressed about money constantly.. in FL I love the slow pace of things, enjoying life and not speeding through it. But most of all FL is a great travel hub to Colombia and other southern destinations which FH and I plan on doing A LOT of! A cruise is no problem from any port down there. Only problem is FH's family is here and my mother's family who raised me is here... have any of you ladies delt with the ups and downs of moving out of state and how are you handling it? I wonder if it's worth a shot to up and leave or if staying in a place we already know is the smarter idea.. how about you ladies??

I am from Farmingdale, FH is from Levittown. Once we get married we want to move within the Farmingdale/ Levittown / Bethpage area :) He wants to get me to go to Brooklyn, but I'm a bit too long island to adjust to the city life ;)
Same ?'s can go to you since you are from Farmingdale!
Do you love it over there? Where about are you? We lived in Massapequa and would frequent the BJ's on 110 so we know really only about that area of Farmingdale.
FH and I have been talking about that being the place to move since we have family in Nassau and Suffolk it is the perfect central compromise.

FH and I were both born and raised in Patchogue/Medford. Our parents still live in the houses we grew up in! FH lived in BK while going to school in the city, and I lived in NYC while going to FIT. We eventually moved in together when I lived on Wall street and made the move to Brooklyn a few years ago.
We decided we'll live in BK until we can't afford it any more and when our kids starting turning into weird city kids. You know, mismatching outfits, not impressed by anything, asking for sushi and organic lunch choices - that's when we're out!

I love Farmingdale, not too impressed with the high school here though. I live in between the golf course and Main Street in the village of Farmingdale.

I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and currently live with FH in Floral Park in Western Nassau. FH was born in Chariton, Iowa and moved around with his family a lot before setting in Joplin, Missouri, where he was living when we first 'met' online. He moved to Dallas, TX in 2003 and convinced me to move out there too, which I did for a few years before dragging him back to NY with me in 2006. We moved in with my folks and saved up for awhile, then bought our house in Floral Park (3 blocks away from where my parents and brother lived) in 2009 and are still there.
FH hates NY with a passion, but he works for the MTA so we have to be here for another 17 years. As soon as he retires, we're moving South--either back to TX or somewhere warm and dry like AZ. That was my version of a 'compromise' as I hate the heat and hated being away from my family and friends even more. My mom and brother are essentially my only family and FH isn't close to his family at all. So, this is where I want to be--not because I love L.I. but because almost everyone I care about is here.
Hope your FHs family was ok with that terrible tornado last year!!!! I feel the same, I love the people and family on LI but I think it's a nice place to visit than live..

Time does fly! Next week I'll be a year till IDO eeek!
FH and I have always discussed the possibility of moving out of state after we marry. We know its likely the only way we can afford to have the life we want to. All our family is here mainly (both born and raised in Suffolk, but from different towns both close by) and it would be such a tough decision to move away from them, but I will not sacrifice my ability to have a Family and Home of my own just to stay close to the family here. Family is Family and a little distance shouldn't ruin that. We would stay within driving distance of course since FH will not fly. lol
We don't have a set timeline yet, we will wait until after the wedding just to minimize stress and of course its all based on jobs depending where we go of course. Its actually exciting to start new with FH.

We both grew up on LI; we went to the same HS where we met. We moved away for school for a looong time, but we are moving back in August so we'll have to see what area we move into. We don't want to be too far out on the Island, since FH will be working in Manhattan, but I haven't heard anything definite yet, so I'm afraid to move to the city because that would really limit my options for job hunting.

Does anyone know anything about the Huntington area?
As far as schools and neighborhoods and everything goes? I know people who live in Huntington Station, South Huntington, Dix Hills, Huntington Village, all very different.

We are both from Long Island (Nassau). Met at my job in Farmingdale, we live together now in Farmingdale. In contract on a house in Farmingdale. 5 min from his whole family. My brother is around the block. Sister and parents are about 30min away.

Love it here. Lived here till I was 9 and moved to the north shore. Moved back to Farmingdale about a year ago. FH grew up in Massapequa but went to Farmingdale HS. We live by Allen Park. My Dad owns a business in the town and I work for him. Town (main street) is great and Allen park is awesome for kids. The mayor is trying to 'clean up' the north side of town by the train station by building an apartment complex and more stores.

Funny! What class did your FH graduate with? I'm class of 2006 at Farmingdale!

FH was born and raised in LI (Brentwood, Islip, Bay Shore). I was born and raised in Kuwait (yes, I am very far away from home; my family still lives in Kuwait but are hoping to move to the U.S. in a few years after they retire). FH and I currently live in Holbrook.
I am in grad school and will graduate in 2015. After that, FH and I will move wherever I get a job. We would like to stay in NY only because his family is here, but the living expense here is giving us second thoughts. So I guess it depends on where I get a job in the end (we were considering Boston or Austin, or maybe even Irvine/ Davis in California).

I'm originally from Quogue, and never really ventured west of William Floyd Pkwy until after my divorce. FH is from Flatbush by birth, grew up in Canarsie, and moved to Howard Beach when he got married. He's been divorced for a while, and still lives in the home they rented as newlyweds (she moved out). We live in that apartment, and don't plan on moving. I love that neighborhood way too much.
I've lived all over LI. I've lived in North Babylon, East Northport, Northport, Ronkonkoma and now I'm in Brentwood with Tom. Tom was born and raised in Brentwood and hasn't left lol.
We are (right now) planning to stay on LI. We're looking to get a house/property in Eastern Suffolk... like in Ridge/Middle Island area. Tom has become OBSESSED with the Longwood School Distrcit so that's where we're looking.

I'm from Stewart Manor and FH is from Bellerose. We literally live like 5 minutes from each other, so it's pretty nice. We're still on the fence about where we want to live, but we're thinking about somewhere upbeat like Astoria or Bayside that we wouldn't be able to live in when we buy a house. Down the road, I'd love to re-locate somewhere upstate. We're both NYS employees so it's in our best interests to stay here.
