Can you ladies believe it's June 27th already??? 4th of July is next week! Time really flies and in 2 months I'll be 1 year away from marrying FH!
I know we are spread out in different areas of NY and NYC and some of you ladies have posted about living in different countries. Today's question is about the past and the future.. where are you and FH from and where do you want to be after you get married?
FH is from Colombia and came here when he was 12.. I am from Long Island (Suffolk) but when I turned 19 I moved to Tampa, FL to live with my cousin and best friend for 3 years. I have family in Cape Coral, FL also and ever since I left I've wanted to go back. FH and I have been to FL together 2 times and we're going back again in Fall and we really want to start our life there together. Now Florida is a big state and many people have mixed emotions and bad experiences because there are a lot of bumble **** places down there but when you're in the right spot, it's paradise. We loved that the houses are so new and big and beautiful and AFFORDABLE.. FH works in construction like my cousins husband so he has an 'in' there and I am going to school to be a teacher which I know is a lost cause here on the Island.. I really don't want to teach in the city either.. in Florida I have a hand full of friends who got great jobs right out of college and my cousin is also a teacher and would have no problem helping me out. I also love the weather, I don't want to be 75 and shoveling snow and breaking my back.. I also want to give my kids a better life, I don't want them to have to live in my basement forever! I want them to be able to buy a home and raise a family without being stressed about money constantly.. in FL I love the slow pace of things, enjoying life and not speeding through it. But most of all FL is a great travel hub to Colombia and other southern destinations which FH and I plan on doing A LOT of! A cruise is no problem from any port down there. Only problem is FH's family is here and my mother's family who raised me is here... have any of you ladies delt with the ups and downs of moving out of state and how are you handling it? I wonder if it's worth a shot to up and leave or if staying in a place we already know is the smarter idea.. how about you ladies??

I am from Long Island (Massapequa to be exact). FH is from Blairsville, PA. It is an extremely small town about an hour outside of Pittsburgh. We both went to college in Pittsburgh which is where we met!
I came back to LI in the summer of 2011 but FH had to stay in Pittsburgh to finish school (he had to go for 6 years for his degree). Once he graduated he moved to LI to be with me.
We are staying on Long Island. We just signed the contract for our new house in Bayport! :)

We are staying on LI. FH owns his own business and needs to be here. We also like being close to both families, moving out of state was never an option or discussion for us. We live about 5 minutes from both sets of parents.

FH is from Long Island and I'm from CA. We plan to stay in Flushing, Queens for a few years. In the future when we have kids, we talked about moving out to Long Island.

FH was born and raised in Port Washington which is the north shore of LI. I was born in Princeton, NJ and have since lived all over Nassau(Syosset, Woodbury)/Suffolk county (Mastic), Virginia, California, Staten Island. I call home LI and really felt the most at home living in Suffolk county. FH and I first lived in Massapequa which we really loved and have since moved to Selden which is further out east, we absolutely love it but definitely have complaints about it being very far from FFIL and FBIL.
FH and I have had the conversation about moving somewhere where cost of living would be cheaper such as FL (my parents moved to Vero). There are many of places we could move that the cost of living is cheaper but if FH has to take a pay cut then it isn't worth it because the situation is no different than NY. FH also claims that NY, with his career, has the highest earning potential than anywhere else. As much as we would love to live somewhere else, where we can buy a McMansion for 250,000, he just wouldn't make as much money for it to be worth while plus if we moved anywhere else but FL, we wouldn't have immediate family nearby. On LI we have FFIL, FBIL, my sister, BIL and niece & nephew.
We are just going to stay put on LI which we are OK with

I am from Long Island (Smithtown) and so is FH- we actually graduated together. If it wasn't for our families, we would move to Boston in a heartbeat. His company is stationed out of there so he could get transferred easily but I would have to find a job there....but because our parents and families are here we are staying on Long Island. We actually put an offer in on a house and it was accepted! So we will be on Long Island forever.

Michael is originally from Bellerose. Then moved to Westbury (or Salisbury to be exact) when he was 12. I was born in Howard Beach and moved to Massapequa when I was 4. I am a total Long Island girl. We'd love to buy a home in Nassau County but you never know what the future holds. Michael works for COnEd so staying in NY is a must.

FH and I are both Long Island born and raised. He just got tenure at his school district so we're here to stay for the long haul, but someday when we're both retired, I really want to get out of here!

My FH and I are both from the same town, but he went to the public schools and I went to Catholic, so I never knew him until we met lifeguarding. After we started dating, we found out that his aunt and my mom were HS best friends, and his aunt was at my mom's wedding. We also found out that his uncle was my mother's next door neighbor!
We would love to live where we currently live (floral park), but probably can't afford to live there right now. We will most likely live somewhere with lower taxes, or in a coop/condo at first.

Where are you and FH from and where do you want to be after you get married?
We're both from Nassau County, Long Island, the same town. We went to the same high school, a few years apart. We're planning on staying here after we get married, hopefully to a town close by where we live now.

I was born in Forest Hills then moved to Port Washington where I've been ever since. FH is from Dayton, Ohio which is where we'll be after we get married since he has a child who he can't leave. But, we'll end up in Columbus, OH since it's only an hour away from his son and the airfare between there and NY is exponentially cheaper so I can see my family more than if we stayed in Dayton.

Do you love it over there? Where about are you? We lived in Massapequa and would frequent the BJ's on 110 so we know really only about that area of Farmingdale.
FH and I have been talking about that being the place to move since we have family in Nassau and Suffolk it is the perfect central compromise.

I'm from Bellerose and FH originally is from Ridgewood, Queens then moved to Bellerose, and then to Seaford. We both currently live in Bellerose. We both like that we know everything in our neighborhood since we both grew up in Bellerose but the neighborhood is changing too much. Our favorite little ice cream spot that was family owned for a long time turned into a hotel. We have discussed places to live on Long Island, we obviously want a good school district for our kids, but taxes are so expensive. My brother and his family live in Massapequa Park and they are in Georgia right now looking at houses. I'm hoping FH and I can stay in NY but I guess we will have to wait and see.

I am from Farmingdale, FH is from Levittown. Once we get married we want to move within the Farmingdale/ Levittown / Bethpage area :) He wants to get me to go to Brooklyn, but I'm a bit too long island to adjust to the city life ;)

I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and currently live with FH in Floral Park in Western Nassau. FH was born in Chariton, Iowa and moved around with his family a lot before setting in Joplin, Missouri, where he was living when we first 'met' online. He moved to Dallas, TX in 2003 and convinced me to move out there too, which I did for a few years before dragging him back to NY with me in 2006. We moved in with my folks and saved up for awhile, then bought our house in Floral Park (3 blocks away from where my parents and brother lived) in 2009 and are still there.
FH hates NY with a passion, but he works for the MTA so we have to be here for another 17 years. As soon as he retires, we're moving South--either back to TX or somewhere warm and dry like AZ. That was my version of a 'compromise' as I hate the heat and hated being away from my family and friends even more. My mom and brother are essentially my only family and FH isn't close to his family at all. So, this is where I want to be--not because I love L.I. but because almost everyone I care about is here.
