Hey everyone. I;m going to TRY to come up with some good questions.

Thanks again fir making me BOTW.

OK so I'm intrigue]d by heritage and cultures. As lots of you know, my FH's family is Latin and mine is mostly conservative Jew....other than my dad's family which I won't count...pure White Trash. lol

anyway...it's an interesting mix to say the least.

What nationalities are your families?

Do you anticipate any problems or any interesting situations arising from this?

And what's your favorite thing about your FH's culture?

mine: Conservative Jew
his: Panamanian /Colombian /PR & Trinidadian.

Just a few problems w language barriers w the older relatives on his side. we have the Catholic / Jew thing when we have kids. yeah..we haven't figured that out yet. Neither one of us is religious.

I tell everyone that I'm in this relationship for the food. yeah..it's true. Those Latinos can COOK! :)

We are both Italian Catholics lol so i guess for us it's a bit on the easier side.

Though FH isn't really into his family background. For example i asked him when we first started dating where in italy his family is from and he had no idea. What??? To me that was so strange - how do you not know that!!! lol I think i have taught him about some Italian traditions that he didn't know about that we will def be doing as a family later on in life.

Me - Filipino
FH - Italian/German

We actually dont anticipate any problem w/ the differences in culture. FH is actually very interested in having our future children being raised in a very mixed culture per above which i'm very happy with. The most important thing for us was actually the religion and we happen to be the same so it works out.

hmmm, FH's culture.... they don't really do a lot of german/italian things but i have enjoyed going to the beer garden in plattdeusche park for the german fest with FH's family

FH & I are both Italian too and we share the same religion. Don't really have a lot of differences but my family is from Naples and his is from Sicily so there are a few traditions that differ. Like no meat on Christmas Eve, You italians know what I'm talking about, but his family doesn't follow this and i was like, what? what kind of Italian are you, lol.

Yes, definitely keep those traditions alive, and when kids come, take them back to Italy and show them their roots., I also find that strange when people have no clue, but then again, there are people here 4th and 5th generation so you can't blame them, it gets lost.... So keep it ALIVE

Well we're both Italian and we're both Catholic, so not many surprises there

me: Korean
FH: portuguese

There is definitely the challenge as far as communication between me and his parents since they speak limited english. We've come along way though and can communicate through alot of elaborate hand gestures lol.

Culturally, Koreans place alot of emphasis on respecting your elders. For example, when you are at a dinner table, when you drink, you face away from your elder. When you pour an elder a drink, you must use both hands.

These kinds of things I had to tell FH before he met my parents but FH does some stuff that may be considered 'disrespectful' by some very traditional koreans. For example, FH patted my dad on the back one time and my mom pointed out that you're not supposed to do that with your elders. She wasn't saying it in a critical way but trying to teach FH some stuff.

My parents do understand that FH doesn't mean to be disrespectful ever, he's just not korean.

Me: Irish and Welsh
FH: Italian, German, Irish, English, Native American

FH and I are both Catholic, so there really aren't any cultural differences between us. The biggest thing is now I get to have a big Italian Christmas Eve!

i'm irish, italian, and german
FH is irish and italian (although the irish genes won with his red hair and fair skin!)

neither of us are religious...both of our families have similar holiday tradtitions...we really haven't run into any issues.

ex-boyfriend was russian/armenian...now THAT was interesting, especially since his father spoke limited english and i lived with them for a period of time

Me: Pure mutt!!!! I'm Italian, Irish, German, Polish, Scottish and French Canadian.

FH: 100% Italian

For the most part our heritages do not clash. We are both typical Americans. The only thing is that FH's mom is very into religion and I really wasn't brought up that way - I was baptized and received communion but never confirmed. When FH and I got engaged I was basically told I had to be confirmed and we had to get married in a church even though I wanted an outdoor ceremony But I'm doing the whole church thing to make everyone happy

FH is Italian and English, he is episcopal.
I am Italian Catholic.

Both our families are very similar and we do a lot of the same traditions. FH's mom is very into her church, but we aren't very religious. Our son is baptized catholic and we are getting married in the catholic church. We really have no issues, we are kinda boring!

We're both Jewish, and my parents wouldn't have it any other way! They always wanted me to bring home 'a nice Jewish boy', which I did. I'm a little more observant than FH.

As far as our nationalities FH and I are both the same percentage Italian, Irish, and German plus we are both Catholic. I don't see there being any particular problem culturally with us but during holiday time it makes it very difficult because both of our families want us with themselves.

We are both big mutts. I'm Italian, German, and Polish
He is Irish, German and a couple of other things.
Neither of us is religious, although I was raised Catholic and he was raised Methodist. We aren't incorporating anything religious at all in our ceremony, and we aren't really doing any cultural traditions anyway. We are just making our own

My family is Spanish and German and His is Irish and Italian.. I don't forsee any problems at all.. Both of our families are very friendly and are all just excited about the wedding and trying to help as much as possible

were both italian and catholic.
We follow pretty much the same traditions, and are the same level of 'religious' or not religious for that matter!

All should be just fine in the future..

What works out is my family is big Christmas Eve and his celbrates Christmas Day- so it works out for when we have kids..
