*********QOTD 7/15/2009************

Today and until Friday I am coming to you from my vacation on Fire Island I looooove it here! FH spent the day with me yesterday and left this morning so now I am all alone with the beautiful beach and laid backness

And now onto today's Q:
I was daydreaming about the wedding day and how everything will come together and how we will act, and what will people do and say and I kept coming back to the things that I am super excited about: family/cultural traditions.
I honestly can't wait for some of them, I get butterflies just thinking about actually getting to do them.

What are your culture's traditions you are very excited to do for your wedding?

As some of you know I am a mix of different cultures, I am a Russian Israeli, so the fun part that I can do different things from each culture.
What excites me the most from my Jewish culture is the breaking of the glass - sooo can't wait! That marks that me and FH are no longer engaged, and from now on we are officially husband and wife. Plus that's when all the celebrating starts and everybody comes up to congratulate you, this huge mass of your loved ones are hugging and kissing you.
From my Russian tradition I can't wait for when everyone yells 'Gorka!!!! Gorka!!!' at the reception. The word means bitter in Russian, and I don't know why but this is when the newlyweds MUST kiss. That is soooo much fun! At any moment people can start yelling that at you and you immediately MUST kiss

These two are the ones I can't wait for the most, what are yours?

Good question! I was actually looking this up last week

hmm... Well I am Italian so many of the traditions have just become part of every wedding today.

My FH on the other hand is Portugese and some of their traditions are off the wall!!!

For instance: (and this is NOT happening) The bride walks around acting like a COW until her new owner (FH) comes to claim her. My friends threaten me they are going to give me a cow bell to wear

Another is where the bride passes her shoe around and people stuff money in it. Now I don't know how people will feel about stuffing money in my funky shoe but hey if they want to who am I to stop them

I come from an Italian family and FH is a WASP. Our traditions are basically the good old fashioned wedding traditions.

First kiss, garter/bo-k toss, cake cutting........

I guess the Italian tradition I'm most looking forward to is......THE VIENNESE HOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I <3 my desserts

FH is Irish, and I am Italian and German.

We are trying to incorporate some Irish aspects into the wedding, a few Irish songs as well. I need to research it more to find our Irish traditions.

And as for incorporating the German culture...FH wants to give my dad a goat as part of his dowry. Don't even get me started on that!

LOL........I told my father that I REFUSE to have the tarantella played at the wedding..........like I said, FH's family are all WASP's....they wouldn't have any idea what to do.....and I'm not a big fan of group dances anyway.

I'm Irish-American and FH is Bengali-American.

We're looking to incorporate a Celtic handfasting in the ceremony.

I will be getting henna on my hands a couple of days before the ceremony.

We'll be wearing traditional American outfits for the ceremony and Indian attire for the reception.

We're looking into fusing a Celtic knot and henna design together for invites...but we'll see how that looks.

We're going to have a legal ceremony and then a Muslim nikkah (wedding ceremony).

We're having a holud, which is a party for the bride and groom.

And in true Irish fashion, there will be a lot of alcohol a-flowing. But that's like most weddings.

FH is Indian, so we are going to have a big party called 'Wedding Songs' the weekend before the wedding where I can get all decked out in my sari and jewelry.

I plan to get bridal henna done on my hands and feet for the wedding.

I'm changing into an Indian outfit during the reception and now FH is thinking about it as well.

We are having a dhol player for the reception; it's an Indian drum player.

We're not doing too many Indian traditions.

Just send me FM for the Irish traditions.

FH and I are both half Irish - half Italian. Some of the things will be incorporating into the wedding are Celtic vows (in English - lol), Connemara marble stone, and possibly handfasting. I also have a few more Irish ideas which I may or may not do. For the Italian side - food, drinks, and some Italian music. LOL.

I am irish fh is italian. I really don't think there is any cultural traditions we will be using. We are having a roman catholic ceremony but other than that nothing. We might get bagpipers.

We are both Italian but not really doing any cultural traditions. My mom wants us to do the tarentella, don't know how I feel about it.
Also, my parents want us to have a dais. We are both totally against it.

I dunno lol....I am Jewish (FH is not) and we're having an interfaith ceremony so I'm not sure which of my traditions will make it in...there will definitely be glass breaking, of course.

I don't know if we'll do the hora...I kind of like the idea of going up on the chairs but FH is 6'5 so who is going to lift him?
