Today's QOTD is inspired by an ongoing issue FH and I have, and are still trying to figure out....
Once married, how will you and FH split the major holidays between your families?
FH's parents are divorced and he is not really close with his mom, but he is close with his dad. So he spends Christmas with his mom and Thanksgiving with his dad. FH was also born and raised down here in FL. Since I am a LI girl, I have always spent EVERY holiday on LI with my family. Even after I moved to FL, I still fly up to NY and spend every holiday up there.
So once we are married, I definitely want to continue going to NY for Christmas...with FH. I told FH I would do Thanksgiving with his family. His family doesn't do alot of traditions, and my family is huge on traditions, so giving up any holiday for me will be very hard, but if I had to choose one it would be Thanksgiving. FH and I haven't come to an agreement yet

Re: *********QOTD 7/21***********
my family celebrates xmas eve more than xmas day, so that is how we split it and so far its been working.
thanksgiving we go early with my family, then later with his
mothers day and fathers day we have been on our own
we are hoping to get a place big enough to invite ppl over for holidays and have our nieces over for christmas eve (this is going to get harder as FH's niece grows up...since we have been spending the night usually at my sisters to be there when my niece wakes up looking for santa)

His family is Muslim and mine is Christian.
So right there, we'll be spending Eid with his family and Christmas with mine. Ideally. My folks live in FL so we don't get down there every year for Christmas due to airfare costs.
Thanksgiving - we'll play it by ear each year.
Halloween is major for my family. Like, M-A-J-O-R. My parents throw a blowout party every year - their house in FL is really big and they actually have to start decorating the inside of the house in August. The entire house is a haunted house, different themes in each room each year, in their yard they have a bar set up IN a casket. Yeah. I've gone there for their Halloween party before; FH will be getting the full experience this year
Ramadan - With his family. I tend to help a lot with the cooking during the day since everyone else is fasting.
Easter - Again, depends of the $$$ situation. If we can make it to FL, great. If not, no biggie.
New Year's - We've never been the types that spend New Year's with our families anyway, so this isn't an issue.

Re: *********QOTD 7/21***********
since we have been living together for a few years now, we basically have a set schedule:
we host Thanksgiving for FHs mom & grandmother & every other year FHs aunt, uncle & their son & his girlfriend.
we also host Easter for FHs mom & grandmother.
we spend Christmas Eve with my family & include FHs mom every other year.
we spend Christmas morning with my family & then we host an early dinner for FHs mom & grandmother, then we go to visit the rest of my family at my uncles house.

I try to get him to celebrate every holiday with my family because I think we celebrate better and more tradional. Thanksgiving-we switch off every year. His fam gets xmas eve-if his mother chooses to be with us (or her husbands fam) Christmas day-my fam and then maybe his fam for dessert. Easter-I hate celebrating easter with them bc they dont even know the meaning of easter.

I get most of the holiday's to be honest. FH's family isn't the most festive and he prefer's to be with my family as well. If I had to I would always give them Thanksgiving so I could have Christmas.

We already split holidays... both of our families have get togethers every holiday so we usually do dinner by one house and desert by another.. spending equal time at both houses... this will continue when we get married... unless we start hosting a holiday or two

Re: *********QOTD 7/21***********
this is tough for us. my parents are divorced so it was always difficult trying to share holidays but now we have to share holidays between 3 sets of parents.
the last 2 years we just been rotating. this year we did Thanksgiving with my family and next year we will do it with his, etc. Christmas I always did Xmas EVE with my mom and Xmas day with my dad....so now i guess we will have to do my mom and dad on the same day and then the other day with his parents...ahh i dunno its stressful and a lot of driving back and forth!
edited to add: once we have kids i am sure we will want to spend a lot of our holidays at our own house...esp christmas

We will probably keep them the way they have been going which is splitting the days between the families because both families do them all
thanksgiving-go to FH's, then my family
Xmas Eve-FH's, then my family
Easter-FH's, then my family

We already split holidays between our families so it will remain the same. Thanksgiving is with my family. Christmas Eve with his family and Christmas Day with my family. Easter with his family although we usually go away on Easter. We worked it out pretty good.

Ughhh I hate holidays!!! They are so stressful. We will try to split up the holidays evenly. If it's a two day holiday like Christmas, New Years, Easter we'll spend one day at each parent's house. For other holidays we try to alternate each year or go to both houses. Hopefully when we are married we can have some holidays at our house so we don't need to go over someone else's and have to choose who we should spend it with.

Re: *********QOTD 7/21***********
Christmas Eve- My family Christmas Day- FH's family Thanksgiving- He is usually working and I always go to my moms early in the morning to cook with her.
We really have to play it by ear because FH's never has a set schedule with his job and it can change from week to week.

We have not figured this out yet. We grew up in the same town so we will prob be able to see everyone for every holiday. Also we could do my family with his or vise versa.
