~*~*~QOTD 7/9~*~*~

We're almost at the weekend, ladies...phew!

Last night I swiped an old Self magazine from our employee breakroom so I had something to read on the subway ride home. One of the articles in there was about how opposites attract when it comes to couples...interesting stuff. So...

How are you and your FH opposite? If they are big issues, how do you deal with it?

As I've mentioned before, FH is Muslim and I'm not. While most people outside of our relationship view this as a huge deal, we do not. I'm a non-practicing Christian; by Muslim law a man can marry a Christian, Jewish or Catholic woman. I have learned SO MUCH about Islam through FH and while I'm not sure if I'd ever convert, we do plan on raising our kids (if we have any) as Muslim. If at any point the kids want to look into other religions, we're okay with that. We've looked at this difference as a way to learn and grow with each other...and it works for us!

Another difference between us is our political views. I'm very liberal with most issues and super conservative with a select couple of issues. FH is the total opposite of me in that regard: he's pretty conservative with most issues and a bit liberal with a select few. However, I'm much more the type to get into heated discussions with friends, whereas he takes a step back. We just agree to disagree with some issues, LOL! (Luckily, the issues I'm conservative with are ones that he feels the same way about, and vice-versa)

I feel like variety is the spice of life. I know a lot of people would think that our political and religious views would cause our relationship to blow up in our faces, it hasn't. I think a big part of this is because growing up, I've had friends of all different backgrounds - religious, ethnic, politically-minded, etc...and FH has as well. It's kind of only natural that he and I are pulled towards each other, I guess!

My step dad is Muslim and my mom is Catholic and everyone thinks this is a big deal and it's really not. He does his fasting and stuff and doesn't eat pork and she celebrates Christian holidays.

That's awesome! Good for them
FH and I subscribe to the 'we're worshipping the same higher being, just in different ways' kind of thinking.

Kinda the same thing. I asked my step dad once why he never asked mom or I to convert and he was horrified! He said everyone needs to have their own beliefs and they respect each other. Several times in high school and college when Muslims were portrayed to be hating of all others and depreciating of women I ran my mouth a little bit because I was really offended. I explained that there's this stereotype and there are Muslim extremists, just like you'll find Christian extremists if you look hard enough.

Anyway, I've babbled enough. Happy Thursday morning everyone!

My answer is the FH procrastinates EVERYTHING and the running joke is that he never, ever finishes projects. I can't sit down until something is done!

Ok so there are probably a TON but here's what comes to mind

He is kinda reserved until he feels comfortable to open up where as I am a social butterfly, and will tell my life story to anyone who will listen...

He is not the most organized, where as I like to keep everything in order so I don't lose my mind

He is very very SINICAL! He doesn't trust anything or anyone where I can be naieve at times.

All in All we balance eachother out so it's all good!

Great question!! !

We are complete opposites in every single way!

Re: ~*~*~QOTD 7/9~*~*~

we are opposite in most everything.

i am the neat freak he is not.

i am organized he is not.

he is much more responsible with money i am not.

i put up with more crap from people he does not.

the list goes on & on.

but all in all after 9 years we make it work. we don't think of it so much as opposites but more as compliments of each other.

Hmm...FH and I aren't opposites on a big scale...only on little things. The first opposite thing that comes to mind is that FH was raised in FL in a family that isn't very close...I was raised on LI with a very close family. Our upbringings are totally opposite. He isn't very close with anyone in his family, and he seems fine with that. I am extremely close with everyone in my family...even with me living in FL, I feel like I am there sometimes because of how involved we all are in eachothers lives. FH thinks its really odd for us to be close and talk all the time...I think its odd from him to talk to his mother once a month.

Great question!

I am religous and Fh is not religous at all. I go to church every Sunday and at first I would constantly ask Fh to come. he never would and I would get upset. However, I realized I would not want him forcing me to do something I dont feel comfortable doing.

He is very vocal and communicates about everything. I keep alot of my feelings/emotions in and I dont communicate very well. Little by little I have opened up more, but it it still a challenge.

I am also very close to my family and I speak to my mom everyday. Fh on the otherhand has no problem going weeks without speaking or seeing someone in his family.

we have the religion differences but in all honestly it works out perfectly! He has adapted our traditions and we dont have to share holidays! We have decided how we want to raise any little munchkins we may have and we are on the same page with it!

He is always early! I am on time. (i promise this is a difference)

I have gotten to the point where i do not tolerate people walking all over me, and he has not. I think this is most frustating!

My family comes first no matter what, and since he does not have a big family at all, his friends do.

He is amazing with money. Me not so much.

i want to be taken care of when not feeling well. He likes to be left alone.

I get over excited about the litle things, He prob does this lol

I was raised quality over quantity. Him quantity over quality. (another frustrating one)

when it comes to bowling, mini golf etc. Im such a goof ball and he is sooooo serious and competitive!

im sure there are a few more but these are the main ones!

there is alot with me and fh but one i can say right now is, he is more like the social butterfly, and im really shy. he talks to everyone and im not like that at all.

I am very quite and shy (until I get comfortable) and he is so outgoing and friendly and people love him off the bat where as people think I am a b*tch when they first meet me!!!

I am very punctual and FH is late for everything!!!

There really are so many and could keep going but I'll stop there!!!

Easy - FH can sleep for maybe 15 hours in a row, then get up and just relax all day, where as I always have to be doing something. I can live on 6 hrs of sleep a night.

Well,

I am pretty organized and FH is not...his desk looks like a bomb hit it... which kills me.

We agrue about it... one day he will come around or I will just pile up all this **** and throw it out... either way I will win!!

he's very laid back and easy going but i am very anal and like to ahve everything planned.

he's super outgoing and i am more reserved. He makes friends with random strangers but i just take a little longer to warm up to ppl.

edited to add: this actually doesnt cause problems in the relationship it actually helps. we balance each other out nicely.

This question cracks me up b/c FH and I are complete opposites! My mom refers to us as the Odd Couple (I am Oscar he is Felix)

A few of our differences:
- I am messy, he is clean
- I am frivolous (sp) with spending, he is practical
- I think I am funny, he is actually funny
- I am jewish, he is catholic
- We have completely different tastes in music

We constanly bicker (lovingly) b/c we are both really opinionated. I love that he is different than me. It keeps life entertaining!

Fh is very cool, calm, together....................I'm a loose cannon, ticking time bomb, 'wat the fulk did you say!' kind of woman. How we deal with..........rather how FH defuses me is amazing. It's like he has a sixth sense, he knows me so well that he can tell when I'm going to go off........than he can defuse my inner time bomb prior to it blowing. That's why I love him so much. Chances are he would be bailing me out of a holding pen somewhere if it were not for that sixth sense.
As a joke one Christmas he got me a muzzle, lord knows I deserve it!

FH is nice and I'm not haha. He is borderline doormat and I don't let anyone take advantage of me.
