Last night I swiped an old Self magazine from our employee breakroom so I had something to read on the subway ride home. One of the articles in there was about how opposites attract when it comes to couples...interesting stuff. So...
How are you and your FH opposite? If they are big issues, how do you deal with it?
As I've mentioned before, FH is Muslim and I'm not. While most people outside of our relationship view this as a huge deal, we do not. I'm a non-practicing Christian; by Muslim law a man can marry a Christian, Jewish or Catholic woman. I have learned SO MUCH about Islam through FH and while I'm not sure if I'd ever convert, we do plan on raising our kids (if we have any) as Muslim. If at any point the kids want to look into other religions, we're okay with that. We've looked at this difference as a way to learn and grow with each other...and it works for us!
Another difference between us is our political views. I'm very liberal with most issues and super conservative with a select couple of issues. FH is the total opposite of me in that regard: he's pretty conservative with most issues and a bit liberal with a select few. However, I'm much more the type to get into heated discussions with friends, whereas he takes a step back. We just agree to disagree with some issues, LOL! (Luckily, the issues I'm conservative with are ones that he feels the same way about, and vice-versa)
I feel like variety is the spice of life. I know a lot of people would think that our political and religious views would cause our relationship to blow up in our faces, it hasn't. I think a big part of this is because growing up, I've had friends of all different backgrounds - religious, ethnic, politically-minded, etc...and FH has as well. It's kind of only natural that he and I are pulled towards each other, I guess!

FH and I have extremely different personalities, he is very outgoing, I am more reserved and shy. It actually suits us well, he has helped me to be less reserved in social situations and I think if we were both as outgoing as he is we would seriously butt heads.
We are different race. He's black and I'm white He is very laid back and I'm very uptight/emotional
ETA: He's socialable and good at interacting with people he just met where I am not great with that

We're opposite in a bunch of ways. He is very set in his ways, im laid back. If something bothers him he hold it in, I have to let it out. I could go on. In the end we complement each other which is the most important thing

Easy - FH can sleep for maybe 15 hours in a row, then get up and just relax all day, where as I always have to be doing something. I can live on 6 hrs of sleep a night.
Too funny...FH will sleep all day and still complain about feeling tired and here i am..going off of 5 hours sleep!

Probably in just about every way possible.
First, looks. I have dark olive skin, dark dark hair, and dark brown eyes. He has light skin, light blue eyes and light brown hair.
I LOVE to dance, He HATES it.
I'm more serious, he's much more comical.
I'm more sensitive, he lets things roll off his back.
I'm much more aggressive, he's much more passive.
But it works. We balance each other out really really well.

FH is outgoing and I'm not. I'm a very timid person and he's a good people person. He knows that I feel awkward sometimes and he always gives me a speech about acting like I own the place and not just standing in a corner by myself.
FH is Methodist and I'm Pentecostal and we've butted heads a few times about religious things, so we need to learn how to compromise on this.

We are different in so many ways...
- I am high strung, he is so laid back
- I get stressed easily, he doesnt let anything bother him
- I am very responsible with my money; he is horrible with money
- I love to always be doing something; he loves to just sleep
- I love to read, I'm not sure he has ever read a book in completion
- I am very close with my family; he is only close with a few select members
- When arguing, I love to talk everything out -- he loves to just get in his car and avoid the situation
- He is quiet, I dont shut up

Re: ~*~*~QOTD 7/9~*~*~
FH is a big dreamer and I am very firmly rooted in reality...this translates to a lot of different areas in our lives, but it actually works out well. He dreams for us and I keep our actions to what we can realistically do.
Because of this I am in charge of all finances...until FH can learn the difference between 'want' and 'need'
ETA: I forgot to mention that FH cannot sleep late and I loooooooooooooooove to sleep all day. He rolls over at 9 or 10am and goes 'Baby I can't sleep anymore'...which according to him means that I can't sleep either!!
Hopefully when we're in our new place and we have more than one room to be in I can finally sleep late again

Re: ~*~*~QOTD 7/9~*~*~
great question!
me and FH have very very different personalities, and yet the same. we're both a bit crazy, total drama queens, and very have very explosive personalities. this actually creates a lot of problems and fights, but ultimately it helps to understand each other better, and things that we say to each for other couples would be a 'point of no return', for us its business as usual. as fast as we start a fight in no time we get over it LOL the difference is that he is a moody, creative, head in the clouds, changes his mind, always late, very scattered type. while I am very down to earth, realist, organized, have to have lists for everything type. as I see it, this what makes us work. where he is lacking I feel in, and vice versa.

Me and FH are different in every possible way.
-He grew up in a very liberal family. I grew up in a very conservative family. -His parents are Puerto Rican and German and my parents are Dominican. So our lives have been very very different and can also similar in some ways. -I have a very bad temper, his is not so bad -He is a pig and I like to see everything where it belongs. -He is the funny man who gets along with everyone I am the mean one that has to be comfortable to open up. -I am very sensitive, up tight, naive and he is definitely not -I can make some jokes but in reality he is funnier. -I am great in saving money and omg he is horrible.
The list can go on and on. We have many differences but in reality that's what I love the most that we are different. It makes the relationship more exciting.

We are opposites in so many things:
I am very opionated, I will voice my view and don't hold back. He's way more reserved.
He's also way more understanding of people. If someone crosses him, he will step back and let it slide. If someone crosses me, I mouth off to them.
In terms of religion and politics, I am VERY liberal and while he is not very conservative, he is much less liberal than I am. He is a practicing Catholic; I don't consider myself part of a religion.
He's also very introverted; I'm very extroverted.
I'm high energy, love to go out, love to keep moving. He loves to relax and watch TV.

We are total opposites:
FH has hardly any family and they're not close -- I have a huge, tightly knit family FH grew up with nothing -- I lived comfortably FH never went anywhere -- I have traveled the country (not the world...but the country...okay, and a few places outside of it) FH is very shy -- I'm a social butterfly FH hates groups of people -- I love them FH is a pessimist -- I am an optimist! FH cannot sleep late -- I can sleep all day FH doesn't mind telling people they s*ck -- I don't like confrontation FH has problems spending money -- I don't spend more than I earn! FH is Wiccan -- I am Catholic FH is religious -- I believe, but do not attend church FH is an angry soul -- I am sometimes an angry soul, but I didn't used to be!
I could keep going...
We balance each other out very well. When we first started dating, we kept saying there was no way we would work (woah alliteration!) out because we had nothing in common and were opposites...but it works and it works well!
