~ * QOTD 8/9/13 * ~

Work has been super slow and boring at my office this week. These are the times when I find myself thinking about what I want in a 'career,' not a job. So, that is where I got my NWR QOTD on this gloomy Friday morning:

If you could earn a good living doing your dream job (no matter what type of work), what would you be doing? What about FH? What do you both do now?

I would probably run the world’s largest no-kill animal shelter. I know that makes me sound like a crazy dog/cat lady, but I am a total sucker for animals and would love to be able to help rescue them for a living. I am currently an office manager for a landscape development company. Part of my job is running our green roof division, which can be a lot of fun at times. But, at the end of the day, the work itself really isn’t fulfilling or meaningful to me in any significant way.

Jason would be an artist—probably specializing in metals. That’s where his heart is and where his educational focus was, but it doesn’t pay the bills. His current job is in law enforcement. He enjoys that he gets to help people, but hates that he also sees the worst sides of people, too.

My dream job would be to live off the little diy crafts I make, seeing as I have a whopping 0 sales to date I don't see that happening lol but hey it's a dream! FH would love to open a restaurant. In a former life (pre-me) he ran a pizzeria and loved it, after that he worked for years as a cook. I know he has a great passion for it but it wasn't a steady career path for him.

Currently I am also an Office Manager, but for a Transportation Company. I like my hours, I'm good at it, and I'm my own boss. But its eons away from being stimulating and I end up with a lot of down (LIW) time lol.

FH is an exterminator. He puts his heart into it, as he does with everything, and he's very good at it, but It's not like he goes to bed dreaming of bugs lol. On a note from this girl, its fantastic having a professional bug killer as a FH lol

I would be a Child Social Worker/Psych.. FH would be an Astronaut.

Currently I am a Senior Business Manager in a Pharma Ad Agency. FH is a Stock Manager in his Families Hardware Store

I would love to do something helping animals as well. The only reason I don't volunteer at an animal shelter now is because I know I would fall in love with all the dogs and cats there and would be so sad not being able to take one (or two... or three lol) home. My FI is adamant about us not being able to afford any more pets (we have 1 dog - a chihuahua) at the moment, since we're living in a basement apartment, trying to get out of debt, and saving for a wedding.

My job has been really slow and boring this week too, and I hate when it's like this. The days drag, I get tired from being bored, and I feel like my brain isn't being stimulated at all. TGIF at least!!!!

I would be a surrogate mother for the gorillas in the Bronx Zoo...or at least something where I get to work with animals in a very hands on and positive way. I couldn't be a vet tech b/c I would hate seeing the animals sick all the time.
FH would be a director. It's his passion to make movies.

As of now I'm a CAD Designer, which is a branch of fashion design. I design prints and graphics for brands like Daisy Fuentes, Sofia, Keds, Designations and Pearl by Marchesa. I'm totally happy with my job. I actually look forward to coming into work!
FH works for Manhattan Beer Distributors and it's whatever for him. Not his fave but he doesn't hate it. He works 'full time' but is seriously only there for like 5 hours a day.

I would own an event company and then retire by being a mom&pop florist :)

FH would be a mechanic... not sure why he's not doing it!

I am an Office Manager for a limousine company but I'm about to go back to serving for the hours and $$$$$$$

FH works on commercial kitchen hoods and plumbing which he also really enjoys because he's so good at it <3

I would be a doctor or nurse ... I have always wanted to work in a hospital, but I never had the talent in math or chemistry to make it through pre-med in college! FH would work for BlackBerry in some capacity.

I am an executive assistant to the managing partner at a boutique private equity firm in Manhattan. I've only been here for 10 months. I handle his personal matters, which is really interesting to me. Mostly, I don't hate going to work!

Actually, though, I have my masters degree from Columbia in Clinical Social Work. I worked for 3 years in the south Bronx in foster care. I learned so much about the good in people and the absolute worst in them, as well. However, it was extremely emotional, dangerous, and draining on a daily basis, so I needed to make a career change, make more money, and increase my happiness.

FH is a billing manager at a pharma ad agency in the city.

I'd be doing something that combines working with animals, writing/editing, and being on TV. I'm pretty sure FH wants to be one of those guys on ESPN that get paid to talk football!

I currently work in marketing and FH is a math teacher.

I am currently working towards my PhD in biomedical engineering. I work in neuroscience and anesthesiology, and that is probably what I will get a job in. I am such a nerd, but my dream job has always been being a neurosurgeon. I want to help patients and their families in any way I can.

Adam works for Special Services (Admin) in the Brentwood School DIstrict. His dream job would probably be a video game programmer/ graphic designer.

I would be a full time event planner. Right now I do it on the side.

FH loves his job as a lineman so I dont think he would change his occupation.

I currently work as a receptionist for a Urology Practice

I always dreamed of owning my own boutique. I would be my own boss, sell things that I love and just be happy!

FH would love to be a professional Crossfitter- he wants to live in California on the water- workout all the time and go to competitions and be paid for doing it.

I'm a clinical social worker. I'm currently the director of a substance abuse program. I'm happy with my career, its what I planned on doing. The dream is to move into private practice and out of an agency setting.
FH is bartending. He is going back to get his MBA next year. I think his dream job would be to be a stay at home dad in the future. He's really adorable. If only I made enough.

If I could make a good living off of it, I think I'd want my own cake/cupcake shop. I dont bake very often, i just think all those shops are so cute and it would be a lot of fun!

Currently I'm a Special Events Consultant at Dave & Buster's. it's a lot of fun. I plan parties and corporate events. There's a lot of sales and marketing work too.

FH is a Phamacist. He got his Doctorate degree and makes really good money, but the hours suck and dealing with the customers drives him crazy. He usually works 14 hour shifts.

Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be a Psychiatrist. I am so intrigued by the entire field. If I wasn't doing that I would probably own a bakery where I would be enormous because I love sweets.

If FH could do anything, he would be an Astronaut or a Fighter Pilot.

In real life and not dream world I am a nanny! I love it, the hours are good the pay is good, it is fun work and super casual. It's a good time!

FH is a Technical Analyst for a Financial Services Software Firm. He loves his job!

I have to honestly say that I think both of us are already working our dream jobs. I originally went to school for acct and I hated it! I could not see myself sitting behind a desk forever. I was a lifeguard for 7 years where I also taught swimming lessons to students with disabilities and it was the most rewarding feeling. It didn't hit me right away to put that into a different setting, but when it did I went back to school for teaching. I am definitely doing what I love and I wouldn't change jobs - unless it was to be a stay at home mommy or to be an event planner in addition to teaching!

FH waited what seemed like forever to get his call about the academy for the courts. He went three different times for the physical/phych evaluation but they kept cancelling the academy classes. When he finally finished the academy and started working in Manhattan he was like a new person! He loves his job, the people he works with and the craziness he encounters each day. Definitely don't think he would change anything either, except maybe working a little closer to home.

Hmm.. Although I am very happy in my career right now, I would love to be a full-time ifestyle blogger like Cupcakes and Cashmere. Imagine exploring fashion, baking, and doing DIY projects for WORK everyday?! Ah, a girl can dream...

If I could have any dream job I would go into music producing or going back to working at a radio station. I worked for 2 yrs after I graduated college until our group was sold off to another corporate group and the whole company structure changed...resulting in everyone being let go. I also love to cook and bake so if I could get paid to do that I would. I currently work as an executive assistant for three fitness magazines I work directly under the editor-in-chief.

FH would do movie directing and editing or his own comic book. FH currently works for a company that fixes copier machines. He doesn't love it but is good at it. Both of us just do it to pay the bills.

If I could have my dream job I'd be a sports writer or a sports broadcaster.
I'm currently an executive assistant for the president of a wholesale business.

Fhs dream job would be to own his own custom car and motorcycle shop.
He's a citu sanitation worker.

In my dream world, I would the owner of a super successful clothing boutique, which would probably be a chain if I made alot of money doing this lol.

My FH would own his own car shop where they would mod cars for people, or just something with cars!
