Happy Saturday. When it comes to finances and marriage do you think you and your spouse should have a joint bank account, a seperate bank account or both and why? I think we need a joint checking for household bills and a joint savings account for savings but I also think we need our individual savings and checking accounts as well.

We each have our own separate accounts, and also have a joint one for savings - which goes towards things like vacations, saving up for different reasons, and for now it's our honeymoon/wedding fund. It works well for us - we each know the bills we are responsible for, but still have our own accounts. Thankfully we're on the same mindset when it comes to financials so that's never been a problem with us.

We each have our own separate accounts, but we opened up a joint account when we bought our apartment. I put enough every month to pay for the apartment, as well as savings. I mainly use my own account mostly because I have better interest rates with it, and I DO feel like I'm better at saving than he is!!

We have a joint account and separate personal account we each have our own 'allowance' and the rest goes into the joint account. When we do things together we use the joint but if we go out on our own we use our personal

Pretty much the same as everyone else. We have our own personal accounts, and then we have a joint account for joint spendings!

We have both.
The joint is for the mortgage, utilities, maintenance, wedding bills, groceries etc.
We use our separate accounts for gas, credit card bills, and shopping.

We have separate accounts, but I think we'll be putting each other's names on them after the wedding. I don't really see a need for a joint account. We've lived together for 3 years and we haven't had any issues with finances. He's able to save a lot more $$ than I am since his job pays for all commuting expenses (ie. company car, gas, etc). I have a tough commute to work and I have my own car so that costs an arm and a leg. We split our bills up fairly. And we both have individual savings accounts where we save for the same goals (ie. wedding, honeymoon, house, etc.). His just happens to be a lot larger than mine!

We have a joint account for the house and bills. Then we have our own accounts for personal bills and spending. I like using the system so we're not breathing down each others neck about the finances.

We live together already, so will probably keep it the same until we buy a house or have kids. I pay all the bills and keep a 'tab' of what he owes me. When I need money, he writes me a check

We have a joint account and individual accounts
I think we will each get a personal account allowance and then everything else goes in joint

hmmm maybe we are the only ones with seperate finances. We both have our own checking accts. He pays our Maintenance and i pay utilities and food, pretty even.. We have a seperate checking for the wedding/honeymoon but its in my name... he give me cash to put in each time he gets paid... i am better with the finances!

We have Both... We have 'seperate' and 'joint' But at the end of the day Everything we have is still Ours... So even though we have seperate accounts, we share the $ n cards.
