Nicole was really stressing about posting while in PR, so she emailed me her QOTD for today, as well as her post handing the crown to a new bride ( I will post that later )
So here is her QOTD:
QOTD 4/10/09
Today's QOTD is inspired by the religious holidays that many us are/will be celebrating this week...Have you and fh decided how you are going to break up the holidays between families once you are married? Does this ever cause conflict between you and your FH or your families?
Her response: We kinda of play the holidays by ear but we try our best to see everyone.. It can get really hard especially since his parents lives in the Bronx, my mom lives in Manhattan and my dad lives in Ronkonkoma! It has led to a few arguments in the past but I definitely think we have learned how to comrpomise! I always tell fh though once we start having children holidays will be at our house.. If our parents want to see us/their grandkids they can come to us because there is no way I am dragging babies on those long drives all over the place! lol.

The only holiday we have a problem with is Thanksgiving! I'm Jewish and Fh is not, so we pretty much spend the jewish holidays with my fam/sometimes his fam too, and the rest with his fam! Thanksgiving we switch each year, fh does not like to split the day!

We have always had a problem with the holidays because Fh has 2 families to see and then we have mine. One we are married we have having a bunch of holidays at our house so people can come to us and we can stop running to 3 houses.

We already split it up.
We spend Thanksgiving with my parents (this year his parents and sister came). Christmas Eve is with my family. Christmas Day is with his.
Easter is usually with mine but this year it is with his. I'm not very religious so it's no big deal to trade off.

Thanksgiving is settled until mom sells the FL house because FH loves to come down here.
We just worked out Christmas after realizing this year didn't work out well. We are going to do Christmas Eve with my family and then Christmas morning with my family (until we do it with our own children) then Christmas night with his.
Easter we have been splitting up, its not a big holiday for me and I have been coming to FL since I was 1.

As long as we do my family on christmas eve I am happy. That usually isnt a problembc his family doesnt do anything special that day. FH also works a lot of holidays so by default I go with my family anyway. When he is around we try to split the holiday or just go wherever we were asked first (or who's ever food we like better ).

Been together so long that we have had a set schedule for years now... And it works just fine...
Easter- At my parents house in the bronx Thanksgiving- My grandma's house in the bronx XMas eve- FH's sisters house in the Hamptons Xmas day- My aunt/uncle's house down at the Jersey Shore
We used to do Mother's Day at FH's sisters but since his mom moved down to FL, its stopped a bit

Honestly, FH's family is not really religious and mine is so we mostly do holidays at my family's house. I think after we buy a house we'll have a lot of holidays at our house though, with both families.

well i'm sure that eventually it may be more difficult. FH parents now live in NC, his grandparents live near Queens, and my family lives out here in Suffolk. Usually, our traditions are so exactly the same, that our dinners/celebrations occur at the same time. and additionally, since my family is so small, i'm usually the one helping to cook/prepare with my mom, so he goes his way, i go mine. and then i usually pop by during the holidays, a christmas eve here, the week near easter, things like that. he does the same. everyone is understanding. but once we have our own house, i'm hoping to have holidays at our own home

Our families live literally 2 minutes away...so we usually split up every holiday and it works pretty well...typically we start out at my moms and then go to FILs bc they eat way late so it works out...we get two dinners!

I started answering this question and it just gave me a headache.
So no, we have no real system when it comes to holidays and I feel like we normall spend most of the in the car going from house to house!

We are not religious at all so the only holidays are thanksgiving we go to both my aunts house and his parents house. On christmas eve we go to his aunts house and then at midnight to my aunts house. Then christmas day we stay at home with my mom and then visit his parents. Its a little hectic but I love getting all the presents so its worth it LOL

We'll spend most the holidays with his family because they will be closest to us. I think we will try to make a effort to fly out to see my parents in California every other year or so for a holiday.

Holidays are a total source of stress!! I want to alternate but FH 'feels bad'. His family lives in Vermont and my family lives in Bayside making visiting both families on the holidays a little difficult. We always try to accommodate everyone but his mom does not always cooperate. On Christmas we spent Christmas morning with my family then we FLEW to Vermont to make it there for dinner and FMIL decided to serve dinner at 2:30 pm a week before Christmas even though she knew our travel arrangement (SINCE OCTOBER)!! I will NEVER do that again. We are going to have to reach some type of agreement.

We have it pretty easy. FILs live in FL (yay). They only come up for Thanksgiving. Christmas gets a little bit crazy for us though because he likes to see his aunt. This is how we've been doing it:
Thanksgiving (his family) Christmas Eve (we host) Christmas Day breakfast (his aunt) Christmas Day (my mom) Easter (my cousin)
