My dad negotiating the 'bride-price' for my mother!

Yes - I'm serious.

My parents were underage when they got married. I have NO idea what her parents were thinking at the time. Dad was 19, Mom was 15 and they were NOT pregnant or anything! She tells me they were both virgins on the wedding night. But I guess I should be grateful though, I wouldn't be here other wise.

Anyway - before her father would sign the permission .. my dad had to sign over his pickup truck, pay 200.00 and buy the old guy a six pack.

And no --- the marriage did not last. My mom caught him fooling around with her cousin a couple years later. I think I would like to have seen that too!

my aunt died when she was 14 in the lake by flushing meadow park. she told her parents that she was going on field trip from school but she went with two friends instead. she lost an oar on the row boat that they rented back then it was in the early 60s and drown trying to get it. my father was very close to her and was never able to forgive himself so i would like to be there so i can save her life
