Hi Ladies!!! i wanna thank Liz..MrsVtoBe for choosing me as the new BOTW!!! i was very excited to see my name lol!!!
hope everyone had a great weekend and mother's day to all those mom's out their! Monday mornings always come too fast!!
So since this weekend we had a holiday I figured this was an appropriate question of the day
QOTD:
Have you and FH figured out how you are going to split the holidays?
My answer: for the big holiday's like Christmas and Christmas eve. and Thanksgiving..Easter..we usually try to do both of our houses...mine usually being for the big meal lol i have the big Italian family and well we go all out of food and i cant miss that lol...but for days like mother's day and father's day that we should spend with out parents...and then we both went to one anthers houses... i do see this being an issue sometimes because its not always easy being able to run to the next house and switch.

Splitting Holidays works out perfectly for our families.
We always do Thanksgiving with my family, and Easter with his.
For Christmas Eve we are with my family. We are Italian and I wouldn't miss the fish dinner for anything! Plus, FH's dad is a pastor, so he is busy getting ready for Christmas day church. We then get up very early on Xmas morning and drive from south Jersey back to LI to spend Xmas day with his fam.

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
My Future-In-Laws live in Pennsylvania so for Thanksgiving we go to my house and then go to his house on black friday and spend the weekend. Christmas eve is at my house and Christmas day with his family. Easter is usually with my family. We usually go up to his house for 4th of July. So we've pretty much already split the holidays or we go to his family sometime around the holiday since it is a 3 hour drive to his parents house.

Splitting the holidays is actually kind of easy for us.Because his parents are out of state and he has his daughter every other year for holidays. So on even years We go to South Carolina for xmas, and on Odd years we stay here with my family. (Except last year, their divorce was finally settled and their lawyers didnt bother to tell them).

Yep.
Christmas Eve and Day we spend with his side of the family.
New years eve and day we spend with my family. It's my dad's b -day, so he rather us spend that day with him than christmas.
Thanksgiving - With his family
Easter - My family

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
right now we see both families on holidays. our families are very very very small. basically just parents.
once we're married and are in our own house, maybe we'll start entertaining for holidays

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
I have divorced parents so this is extra tricky for me!!
Easter and Thanksgiving we will change every year (this year it was his family for easter my family for thanksgiving so next year it will be opposite). The holiday that is with my family will be split between my mom's and dad's houses-if we go to FH's family I won't see either side of mine. Then Christmas Eve is with my mom's family and we will go to my dad's side for a few hours and Christmas Day and then end it at his family's house.
It's really confusing but hopefully it will work out!

Because he has such a small family (plus the fact we really don't care for them), we have been spending all holidays with my family. We do split up christmas eve though; dinner with my family, and dessert and fondue with his father's side (which are AMAZING!)

We try to split them. For example Christmas eve we do dinner with my family then drinks/dessert with his later.
It seems to work because my Italian family always does the big meal at about 3 while his festivities start around 7:30-8.

Well since I am christian and he is jewish... it makes it easy... LOL FH's family is not that religious anyways... so its really lax.
In terms of Thanksgiving... we are gonna go back and forth for a few years...and then I wanna start doing it at our house! :)

Christmas Eve is HUGE in my house so we'll probably be here, and then Christmas day will be with his... Thanksgiving at mine, and Easter at his :)
New Years is another big one with my family so we will probably do every other year - the family is already okay with it - hehe

we haven't spoken about it but for the past few years, we've had our families getting together. We just had their family over for easter and we went over their house for Christmas. I'm sure we'll figure it out when it gets to that point. But now, we either do a gathering of the families or we do our separate thing w/ each of our family.

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
So far it's worked out that we do Christmas eve at FH's parent's house, christmas day at my parents, easter at FH's (my parents don't celebrate) so maybe thanksgiving at my parents...
But now that FH and I have a house we want to celebrate some of these at OUR house next year...so we will see what happens...
FH's parents live in NJ and my parents live in L.I so it would be a PAIN to drive to both on a holiday. NIGHTMARE!

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
we had an argument about this yesterday!
FH is NEVER ready on time. God forbid he should be anywhere on time, so he didn't want to drive to Westchester to see my family yesterday. whatever. anyway...
we'll probably alternate holidays or go to both - 1 early, 1 late.
My aunt always has thanksgiving. his aunt does the same.
His family celebrates xmas eve which makes it easier so we can go see my family on xmas day.
we always see both moms on mothers day - same w fathers day.

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
we have this down pat! lol. with christmas eve and christmas day and new years holidays we alternate which day gets spent at which family's house.
thanksgiving and eater are the same. one year at my house, one year at their house. however, we usually end up making it at both houses just to make an appearance and for dessert purposes. lol.
mother's day and father's day we split in half. lunch with one, dinner with the other

right now we do all the holidays at my fam's and then the next day or weekend we go to see his mom (that's the only fam he has). Moving fwd though we will just host the holidays at our house and have his mom and my fam all there.

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
This was sooo difficult for us! We basically have decided to alternate each holiday for dinner/dessert. For example, the past Thanksgiving we had dinner at his house and dessert and my house. Then, for Christmas Day we had dinner at my house and dessert at his house. Mother and Father's day is a little bit tricky and we didn't really think of a 'fair' way to separate it so basically we just stayed with out own parents. lol
Separating holiday is one of the hardest things we have had to do since getting engaged. You don't want to insult anyone.

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
ugh, this has been a sore topic for us...and not because FH and i are disagreeing, but because our parents (specifically my dad) has been nuts about it.
my parents are divorced, so we have 3 places to split our time between. what we already have hammered out is that christmas eve is with my mom's side of the family. christmas day we split between his family and my dad's side of the family.
i hosted my mom's side of the family for thanksgiving this year, so my dad and FILs were upset they didnt see us.
we tried to split time on Easter this year between my dad and FH's family, but my dad got mad at us that we had to leave early.
holidays are causing so much stress now, it stinks. i'm hoping that once we buy a house we can start hosting one side of my family and FH's family for some holidays to sort of ease the tension. but who knows what will happen!

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
Splitting hasn't been too big of an issue. Since our families live about 200 miles apart we can't go to both on any given holiday, but one usually does travel to the other.
His family typically comes to my dad's house for Thanksgiving, and my dad usually comes to our house for Christmas. So far it seems to be working out.

Re: ...* QOTD Monday * ..
have yet to have an issue. we end up visiting both on the same day or we alternate IE Christmas eve/Christmas day
