I just wanted to thank Nicole for passing the BOTW to me. She did a great job!!!!! I really hope that even with crazy student teaching, I will be able to do a good job. When I told FH that i got BOTW, he was like 'oh, so now every time I come home this week, you will be on LIW??' ahhhh, the life of a BOTW!
so now, for my first QOTD:
My mom always said that when picking a husband, you should look at the way his father treats his mother, and that is how he will treat you. So, are there any aspects of yours or FHs parents marriage that you will want to take into your marriage? On the other side, are there any aspects that you would NOT like to take away from either of their marriages??
Have a Great Day Girls!

Re: QOTD: Sunday 9/14
so, without being rude or disrespectful to my parents, there is little that i would take away from their marriage---one thing that i would take away from how they raised a family, was that we were always going on vacation. My dad owned his own business, so he was able to take off whenever. Also, until the last days of his life, my mom didnt work. She stayed home with us, and then went back to school. and although it wasnt always easy, she was always there. that is something that me and FH feel strongly about
From FHs parents marriage, we hope to take alot. They are still very happy after 25 years, and his dad treats FMIL great. You can tell that they still love each other and they support each others decisions and opinions...

we would take complete 'advice or whatever you want to call it' from my parents. They have been married for over 30 years.
his parents...without any disrepsect....almost nothing. The only thing i could think of is to just keep communication open and work out all problems...
but from his grandparents and other family members we will take and use....
eta: He treats his mom great, i have no worries

FH's parents are divorced, and there is still some animosity involved. there was a lot of unspoken issues and things that were never addressed that ended up breaking up the marriage. they fell out of love, but because of the issues ended it with the bad feelings. FH treats his mother like gold. he is amazing with ANYONE in his family and they have welcomed me with open arms. i would want our marriage to be like that. honesty, communication, trust, and keeping supportive people around you.

Re: QOTD: Sunday 9/14
from my parents marriage i would take a few things. My mom stayed home with us and didnt start working again until we were older..i am very grateful that both my parents were around. We also took family vacations, and i was able to play sports and try new things...they always encouraged it. They were very involved in our lives. Also...family dinner everynight...there was always a home cooked meal and we always ate together! I'd love to do that with my children and instill those values in them...family comes first! I have to say that i was very blessed growing up. And funny thing is...their marriage sunk 2 years ago but regardless..they did a great job in raising me and my brother.
From my FH's parents marriage...well idk what i'd take. They don't really fight which is nice that they have a stable marriage but i feel they never put a huge emphasis on family. They are not very social people ( they dont go out often and dont invite people over...their house is gross anyway) They aren't involved in their children's lives either..which always bothered me. For example...fh wanted to buy a quad...which i said he could AFTER the wedding...i was trying to talk to fil's about it and maybe they could talk to him and their response 'i'm not getting involved' Needless to say..he bought the quad. If i wanted to buy something expensive my parents would say 'Ash..i know you want that, but look at what your responsibilities are right now' My dad's famous line 'Look at the big picture' I feel that his family doesn't have strong values...but i'm working on changing that.

My parents have been divorced since I was 8, but my mom and step-dad taught me a lot. They always took time out for themselves, spent time with friends, and took vacations. They're actually both semi-retired now, and currently vacationing in Vegas! My step-dad had his own business, so they were able to save a lot of money, and now they can enjoy their lives.
I asked FH this question, and he said that his parents always had food in the house, and no matter how many friends he brought over, everyone was always invited for dinner.

Re: QOTD: Sunday 9/14
As far as my parents I would take alot from them. They were the best of friends and always did things together. We always did family vacations and had a family day, Sundays. The only thing is that they never owned a house. My mom was a stay at home mom and that was the outcome. Granted it was my grandma's home, 2 family. The other thing is that never fought in front of us and I grew up for awhile thinking everything is perfect when its not. Now with Fh's family all they ever did was fight in front of the kids which is bad. alittle fighting here and there is good for reality. With his parents they dont do much together, didnt go away with the kids and when they did Dad stayed home. They also dont know the meaning of a dollar. So with all this said I am trying to help FH learn certian things his parents didnt teach him.

Every single aspect of the way his father treats his mother makes me heart melt!! He stilla fter 40 years of marriage holds the door for her, hugs her and calls her beautiful...
i only hope for the same!

Re: QOTD: Sunday 9/14
both sets of parents have been married for 35 years... married only 3 months apart... anyway....
from my parents I will take the idea that no matter what family comes first... we all try to be home for a family dinner at least 2times a week.... when I was younger we sat down at the same time everynight to eat.... Also we went away alot when I younger and I was fortuante enough to have the chances.... I hope I am able to provide the same ooprotunities to my children as my parents did for me... they also sent me to private school from K-12... they sacrificed alot....
FH's parents....we both know his parents have ha ups and downs their whole marriage... FH and I already know that no matter what we will work out our problems as soon as they arise.... we will def keep communication open.... FH's parents also show us that you need to laugh everyday... FFIL is always cracking jokes and making everyone smile or laugh.... def something we will take from him.... FH is his mini me always cracking a joke!

FHs father treats his wife with such respect, even though she is a bit nutty. LOL. I can def. take advise from him...

Re: QOTD: Sunday 9/14
I honestly don't think that's the case at all. My dad's parents got divorced when he was young because of abusive reasons and then my dad's step father was a complete @$$ (manipulative, lazy, etc.) and my dad treats my mom like a queen. He even treats her better than he treats his own mother. And FH's parents basically had the same thing going. FH's dad abandoned his kids and cheated on his mom (and I know for a fact that his own father adored his wife) and his step father was a drunk. And FH is definitely better to me than how both of his role models acted.

Re: QOTD: Sunday 9/14
FH's father passed away 2 years before we got together and since then his mom has passed too. So I never got to see how their marraige was. But I did see how FH treated his mother and I think there is something to say about that, and how he will treat me. And I can say, it will be pretty good, as it has been!
