~*~*~*~*~ QOTD Tuesday 4/13/10 ~*~*~*~*~

Good morning ladies!

Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday! Here's today's QOTD!

Question of the day:
How much are you catering to your OOT guests when/if they come to your wedding? How do you decide how much is too much? Do you have to shuttle them from ceremony to reception? Do you pay for their overnight accommodations? If they are in town for the RD, are they to be invited? What about a brunch the day after your wedding - is it necessary? If so, who pays and what time should it be? What do you all think the proper thing to do is? After all, these people are coming from all over the country, and presumably all over the world to come to YOUR wedding.

My Answer:
We're not paying for their overnight accommodations or (as of right now) shuttling them from ceremony to reception. We are, however, trying to find hotels that have free shuttles that the guests can take back and forth to the reception hall. To avoid the RD issue, because most of our OOT guests will be coming the day of or the day before, we're having our RD a whole week before our actual wedding date. As far as a brunch goes, we're trying to avoid it (mainly because I don't want my parents to have to pay for it, and I don't particularly want to pay for it either) - we're leaving for our HM at 4pm the day after our wedding so I don't know how much time there will be to do any sort of brunch/lunch/breakfast with the family thing.

What about you ladies?

ETA: Edited for clarity.

We definitely are not paying for accommodations or paying for transportation. Looking the hotel is literally next door to the catering hall. As for the rehearsal dinner, most of them are staying the day of, and we are having the rd in NJ 2 days before.

We have not decided on a day after brunch just yet. We would like to avoid it as much as possible because it is another expense for us. However, I do feel as we get closer, we will probably give in and do one.

How much are you catering to your OOT guests when/if they come to your wedding?
ALL of our OOT guests are FH's family from Ireland and England so we are most likely going to be having some of them stay at our place when they arrive. I understand some people might find this to be a crazy idea since there is going to be so much to do the week before the wedding and the last thing we want to do is cater to people staying in our house but these people did travel a really long way to come to our wedding and we wouldn't want them to spend any extra money to stay at a hotel. They will all be split up between our place, FBIL's, FSIL's, and FH's parents house.

Do you have to shuttle them from ceremony to reception?
We will most likely get a coach bus for them the day of the wedding to take them to the church and then from the church to the RH.

Do you pay for their overnight accommodations?
Right now, FH and I are contemplating paying for their hotel after the reception, but if not than we will have the coach bus take them all home.

If they are in town for the RD, are they to be invited?
Yes they will all be invited to the RD, though FIL's will be paying for the dinner so it really was there decision.

What about a brunch the day after your wedding - is it necessary?
We have no plans for a brunch the day after but if we do they will most likely be inviited to that as well.

If so, who pays and what time should it be?
I think we would pay for it if we do it and will most likely have it around 10:30am at the hotel.

If they are in town for the RD, are they to be invited?
the people that are oot will most likely be invited to the RD and actually his parents said they will pay for that but since the oot's are my family my fam will do that..bc i knkw they not gonna more lol thats for sure..

What about a brunch the day after your wedding - is it necessary?
right now i have nothing set...but i love that idea and its going to be forth of july so id really liike to do something to like end the wedding the day after and most people will be having bbq's anyway and stuff

I do not have any OOT guests at all lol. My hubby's mom was debating inviting ppl from Ecuador but they won't be able to come anyway most likely. SOOO I don't have any plans for OOT guests.

It was important for us to choose a holiday weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) so our out of towners - my Aunt from France, my sister and her family from CT, Uncle from CO etc - had the opportunity to come and now feel like they were in a whirlwind of events! It also happens to be the weekend my future hubby's parents were married and since they have passed on it was a perfect tribute to them.

We are definitely not paying for overnight accomodations. We are looking into a cheaper hotel this way OOT don't have to pay too much. We are going to be getting a van (through a cab company) to shuttle people back and forth. We haven't decided ont he RD yet, but I like your idea of doing it a week before this way you don't feel obligated. As of right now, there will be no brunch the next day, we are planning on leaving early for our HM, and I'm sure guests want to do their own thing the next morning, whether it's sleep in or get up early and go home.

We are not paying for OOT guests. Our RH gave us a hotel that is nearby and that info will be given to the guests. We're probably not having too many from OOT.

My RD is just consisting of my family and wedding party so no problem there. I'm also not having a brunch the day after, I find it silly and a waste of money.

So there you have it LOL

I haven't made concrete decisions in this area...all my bridesmaids are OOT and I haven't decided if I'm going to help with their accomodations. We will see where the budget is.

FH wants us pay for his parent's hotel room (they are from NJ) but I don't see why it's necessary. They are not contributing to the wedding monetarily (my parents are) and I just feel that they can at least pay for their own hotel for one night...Trying to pick and choose my battles here

We aren't catering to them too much - we have a lot of them but not that many.

We will have a hotel block but arent paying for the rooms. And the hotel offers a shuttle from the RH to the hotel pre and post wedding so that will be all set up.

B-fast in the morning?!?! I've thought about it but not sure I am really going to do it as something so formal b/c the hotel may just offer something.

I love the ideas of the OOT guest bags but i may do something if budget and time allows it - sounds good in theory but i know its not needed.

There will be no paying for over night guests, i will try to find a decent hotel at a good price.

I don't think anyone is going to need shuttle service they are mostly older and not really drinkers.

The 2 hotels that i am looking at:

Fairfield by Marriott has a free continental breakfast

Four points by the sheredon told me for brunch they can give all the people staying at the hotel ( or whoever we want to come back) Vouchers, that way we only pay for what is used and its like 13 pp.

RD is a week before so all the out of towners aren't really going to be there for it anyway!

we'll have people coming from other states as well as Trinidad and Panama, maybe Columbia. Those people are being invited by our parents so we're leaving it up to them.

maybe its selfish, but we don't have the $ to pay for these people to stay in hotels. If they feel they can come, that's great. If not, oh well.

I have a hotel block for people who are OOT. I would never pay for them. We just dont have the money. I understand some people from OOT cant come because of money, and I understand, but I don't think it's my job to pay for them.

I will have a shuttle to the hotel and RH.

We don't have too many OOT. Many in NJ, and if anyone comes in before, they can come to the RD. We are having it at my mom's (BBQ type thing).

I'm not doing OOT welcome bags or anything.

Oh, I would like to do a breakfast/brunch the next day for close family and OOT people.

We aren't really doing much except finding them a hotel. The only OOT guests that may need a hotel are like 5 people from my side. They all lived here for over 30 years so they don't need any direction as far as what to do and where to go.

more than half of our guests are OOT. We won't be paying for their overnight accommodations, and hopefully the hotel we block rooms at will have a shuttle (if not, they all are renting cars from the airport anyways).I would like to do a brunch the next day, but we are getting married on a Sunday- so Im not too sure many will stay. I was also thinking about doing a lunch the day before-but FH keeps saying 'Its over a YEAR away-don't worry about that stuff yet'....he doesn't get it.

I definitely plan on making OOT bags/boxes with a NYC theme since most of them have never been here before.

How much are you catering to your OOT guests when/if they come to your wedding? How do you decide how much is too much? Do you have to shuttle them from ceremony to reception?

Do you pay for their overnight accommodations? No. i would if i could, but theres no way i could ever afford that.

If they are in town for the RD, are they to be invited? Close family like my aunt and fhs grandma

What about a brunch the day after your wedding - is it necessary? Not necessary. Most hotels give breakfast

I also might do the goodie bags, but thats about it
