Did your FMIL change once you got engaged?
My FMIL actually got a little nicer after we told her we were getting married. I think she finally realized that I wasnt going anywhere. I honestly think she is being phony but I am dealing with it.

Nope-FH is not close with him Mom at all; the few times i've seen her in the past 6-7 years she has ALWAYS been very nice to me. I just don't have a close relationship w/her; b/c they're not close. And nothing has changed since we became engaged.

Not really but I would like her to cut the cord a little bit - let FH 'go', if you know what i mean.
I understand why his family kinda holds on to him and protects him - but now he is getting married so its time to let him grow up.

Umm..well, about a year into our engagement we got intoa huge blowout with his paren ts and didn't speak to them for a year over things they said about me. Finally they apologized and ahve been MUCH better since. I guess they realized that FH was willing to walk out of their lives if they didn't respect me and that they had to change their behavior.

luckily I love my FMIL. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She calls me when I'm sick and buys me cute little things when she sees something she thinks I'd like.
She cried when we first told her we were starting to plan :) It was so cute!
She's been calling me her daughter in law for years. It's really cute bc she's originally from panama and her accent makes it even cuter.

Thank God my FMIL haven't changed at all she stayed pretty much the same she just keeps saying she will finally have a a daugher in law she likes and loves (my FBIL is divorce, this is why she keeps saying this) She is too cute I love her

Nothing really has changed. I guess now they consider me part of the family. She is a very sweet lady and I feel like I can talk to her about anything but she needs to cut the cord! My FH and her joke and say they are Marie and Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond...not always funny though!

Not really. She has always been super-sweet and super-nice to me. She hasn't gotten mean or anything. So I'm happy about that!!
She doesn't have that issue with letting FH go. I've always told her that I'm not replacing her and that he only has one mother. I'm going to be his wife, not his mom.

She has but in a good way. She was always nice to me but now she's 'daughter' crazy. She calls me her daughter after phrase.

I've always had minor issues in their house... about 'respect' and my 'attitude' when I come over...
which equates to me not hiding things well, so if I'm upset or tired, I wear it, and I'm not always 'HEEEY HOW ARE YOU!?!?!?' the instant I walk in the house...
Anyway, so I thought we had worked those issues our in 4.5 years, and over the summer, FMIL FLIPPED OUT one night when I came over because she says I didn't say helo to her when I walked in...
She was on the PHOOOOONE, I didn't want to interrupt her, so I waved and smiled at her... really, am I stupid? I would want to have this argument again???
Turns out, I found out later, the flip out JUST HAPPENED to be when FH bought my ring. Interesting, isn't it?
So we talked, and I 'apologized for being disrepsectful' and she gave me some lecture about how I'm family now and she wants to love me and I need to open up and let her... I still didn't have the ring at that point, btw, so I was just like umm...... okkaaaaaayyyyy.
But anyway, ever since then, we've been awesome, no more problems. SO the change has been for the better, def.
