What is the most annoying comment you have gotten since becoming engaged? Complaints about the place/time/season/who is invited/etc.? How do you cope with these opinionated people!!?

I would say the most annoying comment we REPEATEDLY get is, “you 2 arent married yet? Its about time!” Granted, FH and I have been together for over 10 years, BUT we are only 25 so it’s a little different! Ppl are constantly making comments that were taking forever – I feel like saying, well if you have an extra million lying around somewhere feel free to share! At this point me and FH just shrug it off and tell ppl that we did things in a way that worked for US! Lol!

We get complaints from our families about our wedding being in February because it is so cold out. Granted i am getting help with the hall but that is only because we are getting married in February if we got married in another month it would be more expensive. FH and I were orginally going to pay for the whole wedding our selves that is why we picked February. I just tell people if they had an extra thousand laying around then we will change the date or i give them well February is one of the cheapest months to get married.

The most annoying comment I get is close choice between a few comments:
1. 'why are you waiting so long to get married', which my response is 'oh are you offering to pay for my wedding?'
2. 'why are you spending so much on 1 day' especially bc my dad just bought a condo for less than my budget for my wedding.. like sorry its not 1970 anymore.. dont know what to tell you lol
3. 'why aren't you doing a pre-nup, you should protect yourself' to which my response is 'first, thank you for plotting my divorce, glad to see you have faith but what am I gonna put in it... my alarm clock??' lol

The day we put the deposit down I called my aunt to get her stepdaughter's phone number so I can ask for her grandchildren to be in the wedding party. She says, 'OH! you set a date how exciting! When is it?' So I told her and she said, 'That's a Saturday?' 'Nope, it's a friday.' 'Ohhhh...okie dokie.'
Ummmm really? I've just boko my venue for my wedding and instead of congratulations you say 'okie dokie' because you have to take a half day to see your niece's wedding in a year???
UGH it was a big buzz kill, especially for that day, but I got over it in time to enjoy.

Them: 'When are you getting married' Me: 'September 7, 2012' Them: Oh... why are you waiting so long? Me: Well it's only a year and a half away. Year and a half engagements aren't exactly uncommon.

Someone even said 'You could have a baby and lose the weight by the time your wedding comes around'

I haven't gotten any yet! B/c I have not shared my wedding plans with family yet. But I have a feeling that once I do I will be hearing this:
1. Your getting married on a Friday? Why Friday and not Saturday?
2. Your reception is in Long Island? Why ?That's too far!
3. No kids are allowed? where am I going to leave my kids?
I already have my answers ready to give:
1. Yes Friday! B/c FH and I are paying for this wedding alone and we are not going to blow our budget to have it on a Saturday to make ppl happy.
2. Long Island is really not that far from Bklyn!! it's the most 30 mins away. So if you can rent a car to go visit my cousin in Newburgh every other month, then you can rent a car to go to my wedding!
3. You have 1 year to find a reliable babysitter to leave your kids with!!! If you can leave your kids to go out clubbing, then you can leave your kids to come to my wedding!

No annoying comments just the same comments over and over. 'Where are you getting married?' 'when are you getting married?' Especialy if its the same person asking me everytime I see them! Its like, I already told you this!!!!!!!

Along the same lines but not referring to the engagement length. After announcing our engagement to some friends at a gathering, one person joked 'oh yeah and she's pregnant'
First of all, not true. Second of all, HOW RUDE. how could someone possibly think that's an appropriate follow-on to us announcing we're engaged!?!? ok rant over.
and we, too have gotten the 'oh it's on LI?' haha oh people.

The best advice I ever got was that this day was about me and FH only! And we are doing whatever the f*** we want! We are the ones paying afterall!

I hate when people ask when is the big day, and I say.....April 21 2012 in Minnesota and may 19 2012 in new York, then they respond....you are having two weddings.
No I just gave you two dates because I felt like it....
I also hated when they would ask, if we had a date yet. And we had only been engaged for a few hours

Granted besides the first one these are all from my mom but....
1. Why are you waiting so long?
2. Why are you getting married on a Friday, Saturday is so much better.
3. Why aren't you getting married in a church? (no one seems to care that FH isn't Catholic)
4. Oh, you're doing THAT? (really applies to anything I mention to her.)

'What are people going to do in between the church & the RH'
I also get 'when are you getting married' all the time from the same people, as if they didn't already ask me 5 times before & I told them.
ETA: I almost forgot, the little kids at dance that I teach ask me every week 'did you have your wedding yet' It's not annoying, i think it's cute.. and they also ask 'are we all invited' I unfortunately have to tell them no kids allowed & that I can't invite the entire dance studio to my wedding! haha
