QOTD: What annoys you about LIRR?

Since a lot of us commute, I thought this would be a fun topic. I'll start:

-The most obvious: the loud cell phone talkers. I don't care about your gyno appointment lady, shut up!

-The people who sit on the outside of an empty 3 seater just so you're less likely to ask to sit there

-People with earphones on so loud that you can hear their crappy music 5 seats away

-Getting on the train at Penn after a concert/sporting event at MSG. Too many loud drunk people

I forgot about that! It was so much worse when I lived in Huntington though.

1. Short Trains

2. Late Trains

3. Those that push you out of their way to get on the train before you. I'm telling you these people are ruthless...they will push me on the tracks to get on first.

4. The men on the train who let 9 month preggo women stand while they read the paper...I always give up my seat.

6. When people decide to bring chinese food, soup or something smelly on the train and eat in right next to you.

7. When people put their feet up on the seat in the 4,5 & 6 seaters. GRrrr someone is going to have to sit there!!!

8. Holiday travel

There is more.....

Where do I begin:

-on the platform in the morning when they tell you at the last minute that the train is coming in ON THE OTHER SIDE, so you have to run up the stairs, then back down to catch the train!
-short trains
-PEOPLE WHO CLIP THIER NAILS
-People who CHOMP on their gum so friggin' loudly that the whole car can hear
-People who leave their bags on the seats
-The cars too cold in the summer
-The cars too hot in the winter
-broken seats where when you sit in it you sink
-over flowing bathrooms
-the one friggin' conductor who insists he MUST punch your ticket... in the middle of the month
-loud annoying conductors 'Tickets PLLLLEEEEEAAAAASE'

I agree with ALL of these and would have posted them myself if you hadn't.

Also, I hate how it is ALWAYS freezing on the train. Either they blast the AC in the summer or they don't turn on the heat in the winter.

This morning was the best. They had the heat on then they had the AC on and then they switched back and forth during the trip. Argggh!!

all of those and a few more!

- how the trains aren't considered 'late' until it arrrives 5 - 10 minutes AFTER the time posted on the schedules....

- the EXPLICIT and EXTREMELY offensive conversations people have on their cell phones (I don't care who you slept with last night!!!)

- men who stand just so they can stare down seated womens' shirts.... I hate this and can't tell you how many times I've 'caught' these jerks in the act!!!!UGH!!!!!!!

- people with horriblly awful breath who fall asleep with their mouths open and breathe all over you!

- people who insist on looking out the window - on the other side of the car (staring at you the whole time!)

- and some food just should NOT be eaten on trains, just out of courtesy to everyone else. hot dogs with stinky sauerkraut, slurpy SOUP, and smelly tuna sandwichs are a few I've had the unpleasant secondhand experience of sharing......

Oh, there's soooooo much more.......

I hate everything about the train ride! My list is just too long to write!!!

oh yeah, I almost forgot one of the MOST annoying...

the people who argue with the ticket collectors about the step up fares for off-peak tickets!! And they don't shut up for another 15 minutes about it!

I LOVE everything about the LIRR!!!




Sorry, Im just cracking myself up!!

OK- I only commuted for like two months right when I graduated college, but with wedding planning and such- we need to take LIRR to get out of the city.. I am always trying to talk FH into renting a car..

What I hate about LIRR:
- getting there from the east side/getting home to east side after I have arrived back in the city
- people who walk with rolly bags and are obilvious as to how much space they are taking up
- people who walk slow and 'weave'
- the people who cannot take my coffee order @ D&D
- I AGREE with smelly food!! But this is worse on the subway usually
- Basically when people are not courteous- pushing, shoving.. don't experience this TOO much on the weekends, but occasionally.

I do NOT know how you commuters do it everyday! My heart goes out to every single one of you!

NEXT STOP..... PENNNN STATION......

When people sit in the middle of a 3 seater because they know people are less likely going to want to sit next to someone if they can help it. Or when you have 2 people sitting in a 3 seater and it's crowded in the first place b/c of less cars - you'd think these people would be COURTEOUS and move in so others don't have to climb over them.

So many things…..

-Too FREAKING cold – all summer I have to bring a jacket “for the train”
-Duck tape DOES NOT solve all problems – have you SEEN those seats?
-Spilt beer on the floor that travels everywhere is never cleaned – sticky floor
-Folks who don’t close the bathroom door and it SLAMS!
-Conductors who are mean or so lenient I feel unsafe in the cars
-Folk who smoke in the vestibule while at Jamaica
-Folks who walk a leisurely pace down the MIDDLE of a two person staircase while I’m trying to get to my train!!! (same folks who carry a billion bags)
-People who look at me strange when there’s NO ONE on the train and I put my bag next to me
-People who CHOOSE to sit next to me when there’s plenty of other seats only to start up a loud and boring conversation, “did you NOT see me trying to read?”
-Folks with purses, bags and big old butts who when forced to stand in the aisle decide I need a close up view (EWWW)
-Folks who walk quickly down the aisle with big purses, bags or worse UMBRELLAS slapping each seat and you have to dodge to survive
-Folks who play every god forsaken stupid cell phone ring on the train – PICK ONE ALREADY
-Folks who insist on using NEXTEL two way radio the whole train ride long – it’s a PHONE use it!
-Folks who talk REALLY loud on the cell phone and look at you like you’re nuts when you stare at them
-Being on the train after ANY major event
-CHANGING AT JAMAICA
