QOTD - who is officiating and why?

Dear friend of family is getting OK to do it for the day -- he worked for the gov't and says that people can get special dispensations. We thought it would be really cool to have someone who really knew us and for whom the event had meaning but did not want to go the religious route.

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

we are having a friend of my family, who is a roman catholic montsignor, as well as rabbi renee feller, who we found from LIW our ceremony won't be super-religious, but it will represent the fusion of two faiths / cultures. i think the best part about having an 'untraditional' ceremony is that we are getting to pick and choose those traditions in our respective faiths that we truly identify with. i can't wait

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

FMIL's pastor. Neither of us are really religious, and we didn't want to get married in the Catholic Church (which my mom is still trying to convince us to do ) so we figured we'd use him - which made fmil very happy... she's still trying to get us to get married in the church, but i'm holding strong on my outdoor wedding!

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

we're both Naval Officers so we're having a Navy Chaplain from FH's command do our pre-martial counseling here in DC. and the lucky part is the chaplain in from LI so he's going there to marry us instead of the USMMA chaplain. kinda nice since he'll have gotten to know us and it makes it special. plus he's an Episcopal chaplain, which is my faith group.

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

Father Tom

He was the Chaplain at St. Francis Prep High School while I was there. We became friends and have been for years.
He has married a ton of my friends over the years and has even baptised and buried friend's relatives.
I'm so happy to have someone who knows me and now knows FH able to officiate and personalize our ceremony ... I've been torturing him about the Homily though, he asked me if I'd just like to write it myself and give it to him to read

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

Interfaith Minister Pamela Bloom. FH is Jewish, I'm Catholic and the whole priest-rabbi thing wasn't working out. A friend of mine recommended Pamela and after meeting her we decided she's perfect for us!

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

Both my pastor and co-pastor (they are husband and wife) will perform the ceremony. They are by far my most influential spiritual mentors. They have been spiritual mother and father to me for over 12 years.

I don't even have an officiant- my favorite priest at my parent's church is retiring in Feb so I have to see who the new Monsigner is going to be then.

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

We are interfaith and while both very spiritual the dogma of both of our faiths did not meet our beliefs. Yet, we also want to raise our children with an inclusive, not divisive, religious structure. We discovered the local Unitarian fellowship... they belief in universal principals and the sanctity of all religions... so basically not one is right and one is wrong. The new pastor of the fellowship will be marrying us.

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

One of his pastors from home. We were hoping to have two people do it, one from his home and one from our church upstate. But his wife will have a baby a month before hand and decided he didn't want to risk anything. So right now the plan is to go with the one from his church.

Re: QOTD - who is officiating and why?

We are having Dr/Rev Burns who was recommended by East Wind. We went with her because her ceremony is soooo romantic and personal. She takes the time to sit with you and plan out the perfect cermony that is unique to both you and FH.
