Quandry....

Quandry....

Here's the situation:

My husband's aunt invited us over today because her son and his wife from Arizona are visiting with their two children. Since he doesn't come around very often, she wanted to invite the family over for a little get together today.
I assumed, since it is Memorial Day, that it would be a Memorial Day BBQ/Family Party.
I guess i should never assume

We're supposed to be there at 3 (which obviously wont' happen ) and we just found out 15 minutes ago that it's a Birthday Party for the son (one of DH's cousin's children). We had no idea it was a Birthday Party - so we have no gift, or even a card. I don't even know what the kid's name is!

Would it be awful to go without a gift?

No, I'd say go without a gift. I would stop off and get a card though. You can always say you didn't want them to have to take a gift back on the plane and you'll mail it to them.

If you have a toys r us near you, you could just pick up a gift card. Or something along those lines, nice and easy.

well, it all worked out - Tom's mother saved the day! She bought a lovely gift and signed our names to the card.
I was going to bring a card, but I had no idea what the kid's name was!

And I think I'm also a little bitter because they never acknowledged our wedding

Glad it worked out.
