Re: Question..
You don't HAVE to tip anyone. This 'service charge' crap is BS. AND they tax the 'service charge', that's the best thing. But at the same time, it is not the maitre'd's fault you pay that service charge, and I'm sure he doesn't really get a share of it.

Re: Question..
Yeah, you should really tip the maitre'd. Even if you are paying a service charge. I think you are suppose to tip about 200 dollars or more, but I am not 100% sure. All this tipping gets expensive.

Re: Question..
I think you should probably still tip the M'd. 20% service charge is different than grat. If the hall calls it grat then it is not taxable - and the hall should used it to tip waitstaff. However, if the hall calls it service charge it is taxable, and usually goes to pay the waitstaff's salaries.

Re: Question..
at most hall it is mandatory that you tip the matridee, he is the one responsible to keep your wedding under control, ladies make sure you double check with your hall because i believe at my hall it's mandatory the only thing is there is no specifi amount.

Re: Question..
How can a gratuity be mandatory? If for some reason a hall tried to tell me it was mandatory, I think I would have a sh!t fit.

Re: Question..
I think our hall recommended that we tip the maitre d' $2-$3 a person. (And yes, we did have a service charge and tax.)
