question

so a long time ago I borrowed a friends car to go to the store and the car didnt have good brakes and I went to stop at the stop sign and it was like pushing air and I went right through the stop sign and smashed into a truck.
well the driver of the truck had $14,000 worth of damage and I kept getting letters from the insurance company (I didnt answer them)
I later found out the owner of the car I was driving didnt have insurance on the car

so after a few months I got notices from a collection agency for $14,000 so I called them and told them I was broke (I was 19 at the time)
and it wasnt even my car
they told me to get a record from DMV proving I wasnt the owner of the car so I did and I havent heard anything in over 6 years!

does this mean I dont owe them money ? how can I tell if its on my record or whatever???

Re: question

Get your credit report and if you still have the # for the collection agency call them.If you owed the money and it went to a collections agency for your name there is a good chance it would be on your credit. I am sure you would have heard something by now if you did owe it, but you never know so make sure.

Re: question

I agree check your credit report..it could be on there and you wouldn't even know it. Most likely it's gone but it's worth the peace of mind.
