The whole purpose of an EParty is basically to 'raise' money for a wedding

I completly disagree with this statement. we had an eparty so everyone could meet, not to raise money for the wedding. yes, we got gifts and they were appreciated, but to say we had it for the sole purpose of raising money is incredibly close minded. you are entiteld to your opinion, but when you make comments like this, you are offending people and its not necessary, jmo

Thank you Sarah, I was thinking of a way to word that, but everytime I ran it through my head, it came out, 'Are you f*&(ing kidding me?'

oh believe me, i had a hard time with this one myself.....

I apologize for GENERALIZING.

i understand your point, but you can say you are aganist them w/o adding that we are just trying to raise money for ourselves.

I don't want to also start a flare up but...

I had an eparty and it was not to raise funds. I spent more money on the party than I did in presents. My family would have given me the same amount so in reality, we lost out.

Since we are OOT couple and our family and friends never met, it was a chance for them to meet.

Christine, I understand you were generalizing and it's your opinion, but to be honest, I doubt that 'most' people do it as a fundraiser. Parties cost a lot of money and you don't do it just to get money. I mean, does anyone really 'make money' off their wedding?

I like eparties, especially if they are having a long engagement. To conigs- I personally wouldn't go to a party without a little something. Whether it's a candle set, gift certs to a movie, a nice bottle of champagne or wine, etc. - something with a nice card is a good way to show that you appreciate the invite, the meal you will partake in and that you are happy for them.

I know whenever I go to a friend's house, I always 'bring something' - whether it's a bottle of wine or something to eat, I always want to feel like I am thanking them for their hospitality.

I'd say, give a little something!

If you don't want to buy her a present I don't think you have to, but you should bring something. Maybe a bo-k of flowers or a nice bottle of wine? I don't like going anywhere without bringing a little something.

I would bring a bottle of wine or champagne or something. Our Eparty is no gifts also but I would appreciate if people brought a little something for the party itself.

I agree!!! We had an engagement party because my family had never met FI family before. We felt by having a get to gether that that would be the perfect time for everyone to get to know each other. Everyone brought a gift which was appreciated but by no means the reason we had the party.

Re: Question???

we also decided not to have an e-party- parents didnt like the idea for a variety of reasons and the all the fams knew eachother anyway, so no need I guess. We got presents from people like aunts and uncles...

I think you should bring something small if you decide to go (you can even re-gift )

If you dont go, dont give anything!

Once Again:

I APOLOGIZE FOR GENERALIZING...I DID USE THE WORLD 'GENERALLY' AND DID SAY 'RAISE' MONEY

IT WAS SIMPLY MY OPINION ONLY.

I APOLOGIZE FOR OFFENDING ANYONE, AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE CLEARER IN MY INITIAL POST.

christine - not sure where you used the word generally - but like i said i know it was your opinion - we are just stating our opinions back.

you said that it was basically to raise money and i think that's why some of us were offended.

but i'm glad that you understand! now don't make me use my hardcore skills on your a$$

theres no need for the caps. we understand your position. i just got annoyed by your statements, as did other people. i've moved on, maybe you should too.

as far as gift or no gift, bring a small something. a frame or bottle of wine. don't make it into something bigger then it needs to be

I used caps b/c I have apologized numerous times through three different posts, and it seems to continue.

I am alos offended that you called me close minded...which is completely unnecessary.

I also do not need to be told or suggested to move on.

I'm human, make mistakes, and when I realize them, I apologize.

i'm glad we can all state our opinions, etc. on our great 06 board!!!!

christine - although you did clarify as it did go on... people are entitled to post their feelings in response to the original post... i know it's frustrating because you meant no harm by it and you probably wanted it to 'die'... if there was one particular post you were annoyed about - i understand... but my post and others were just in response to the original so it's hard because no matter what, people are going to want to respond with their thoughts...

hope you understand where i was coming from.

Re: Question???

i think it is close minded to make assumptions and that is all i am saying on this. i can't tell you what to do or say and i may have been not so much in the right, but as leese said, we all have our opinions and we have to try to think of others feelings before we post things, it sux, but thats the nature of the beast.

ok, i'm done

Re: Question???

My e party was something my parents insisted on..I told them to just have family over to the house but they insisted on having it out...We are also from different states so this was a great opportunity for our families to meet...our parents , brothers, and sisters, had met once before but my grandparents, his grandma, aunt, etc...got to meet everyone as well...althought you do not have to technically bring a gift I agree with what most said about bringing something small...maybe candle sticks, a picture frame...I think that's the right thing to do...
