Re: question..

I've been using theknot.com they have a budgeting tool. You put in your budget and it allocates for you.

FH sat down and made us a budget, he's an accountant so he crunched some #'s on excel. It was very cute, he even made a section for the $$ for my manicures. But we hardly ever stick to it, we're bad

Re: question..

well my budget will probably go out the window BUT i heard a good guideline is double your reception hall cost. That is your total budget and then allocate that amount towards your other vendors.

Good luck! We are paying for the wedding ourselves and saving for a house too - its tough but i think that we will be able to do it!

Also, what I am doing is even though my parents are helping with a few things ( like my dress and accesories) I am including that in my budget. . . so that way I don't go overboard on the other stuff!

Re: question..

We visited and spoke to vendors first... thought about what was the most important to us and where we wanted to spend the most money... For example we are not having floral centerpieces at the wedding... it is a candle centerpiece that way we could have a cigar roller come in and a couple other things...
You first have to think of how much you can afford and go from there...
If you need any help feel free to fm me..
I know state farm has a wedding planner that has a budget breakdown in the back... its free you can order it off their website..

Re: question..

We sat down and figured out how much out of each paycheck we can set aside. We both get paid every 2 weeks and the weekend after we get paid we figure out the bills that we have to pay and things we have to pay for. We have a 'goal' payment that we pay with every paycheck into the 'wedding fund' (a savings account). If we have extra money that we can spare that paycheck we pay more into the fund. We keep track of all our payments, and what we have paid for.

We took the ammount of money that we thought we could set aside each paycheck, figured out how many paychecks we have until 2 weeks before the wedding, did the math and that's how we came up with our budget. So far we have been able to put more money in each payment so we are ahead of our original budget.

It certainly sounds more complicated than it really is. If you need me to clarify anything let me know.

its not complicated. THat was actually a really good way of doing the budget. It makes complete sense.

Re: question..

While I was still working FT I was putting $500 a month away. Since then that was spent on the catering. I follow the budget I worked up with theknot. while I'm booking. For example I have $2500 for music and that's supposed to include my ceremony, CH, and reception. I try to come in under this number. And I make the downpayments. The downpayment is all I can afford right now while in school. We go out less. We rent movies instead of going to the theatre. We will still go out to eat for dinner but not all the time anymore! And we don't go to fancy places anymore. It's definately important to save money first and then pay bills. Planning this wedding has definately got me excited to save. I really enjoyed watching the bank account grow but unfortunately it's tiny once again.
