Re: Question
Some girls do and some don't. I just gave like $5 extra and I plan on giving a very big tip for the day of.

Re: Question
I didn't tip at the trial. The way I see it- they make so much money charging 150 for hair and 150 for makeup. I do plan on tipping on the day of.

Re: Question
I think it depends on how far the person traveled and how long the trial took. IMO, if the trial takes more than 2 hours I would defintely give a tip. I don't do alot of brides b/c I just think it's too painful.. Trust me, it will make the person you hire more eager for your wedding day.

Re: Question
Call me cheap, but I didn't! I didn't even think of it at the time. Afterwards I was like uh oh should I have....but they are overcharging as it is so I didn't feel that bad!!

Re: Question
I tipped at mine... even though the woman works out of her house. I just felt guilty not tipping. I think I gave $20.

Its not being cheap at all, in fact most brides don't tip any extra, especially if they come to your house (b/c all the money is theirs, they aren't paying a salon a portion). Most hair/makeup freelancers don't go in expecting a tip (I certainly don't). BUT...I do think its a nice thing to do (if you can), especially if the trial goes into major overtime.
But its your choice, really, don't feel pressured. The thing that s*cks for freeelance bride makeup artists is that, unless there's a contract, you could get canceled at any minute (makeup is the first cutback when budget gets tight) so in essence, all the time and energy you put in the trial could potentially be all for nothing. I plan on it b/c I am not paying anything at trial. Plus, she is coming to me.

Re: Question
For free trials I definitely tip, especially because I used to work on tips. Just when we're talking like 100+ for a trial and you know it's going all to the artist, then I have a hard time with it.

Re: Question
I am really bad at knowing when and how much to tip. I try to be really good about it, but sometimes i don't know. This post was really helpful seeing what everyone else has done!

I agree.. the trial is $150 so I kind of feel like why should I tip when they are going to make another $400 off of my the day of plus a tip then!
but at the same time I feel bad that I should give a little.. you think $10 is ok?
