I remember reading in a post awhile back that there is an over the counter pill you can take to stop your period. Does anyone remember this or know the name? TIA

Re: Question

Re: Question
I know there are the ones you take and you only get your period 4 times a year...honestly...I dont see how these things are safe and healthy...I mean you were meant to have your period, whether or not you are going to have a baby one day...it flushes everything out...hormones change. I wouldn't mess with it.

Re: Question
I WOULD NOT take anything over the counter. You may wind up doing more harm then good. Speak to your gyn, you can stop your period with birth control.

Re: Question
Ok then let me ask you this..... besides getting pregnant, how can I stop my period from coming? I can go from either 28, 31 or 35 days. Its never the same but, those 3 time frames are what I can guess it will come... make sense? So either way it will be here on the Day of or on the HM Ironically, sp, my mother had hers on the day of and Im getting married the same day she did.

Re: Question
If you are on birth control instead of taking the placebos you would start the new pack, which would skip your period for that month.

you would have to take birth control pills consecutively without taking the placebos for a week -- you would take the pill for three weeks and then when you have to start the 4th week of placebos you would just start a new pack -- I'm not sure this should be done for too long, I know some girls do it to skip a month for the wedding or honeymoon but I doubt the dr. would recommend this for a longer period. Then there is also the pill Seasonale that makes ur period come only 4 times a yr.

Re: Question
Its not over the counter but you can get that shot from your doctor it will stop your period for that month, one of my friends did it when she was going on her honeymoon.

Re: Question
The Depo shot stops your period for three months and I'm not sure if this is what pp was refering to but if so I would think twice. My sister was put on it by the military and she gained a ton of weight and had horrible side effects aside from spotting. Be sure to discuss it with the doctor before committing

Re: Question
as long as you are on the depo shot you will not have a period. You get a shot every 3 months. Unfortunately it can take up to 9 months before you are regulated on it, meaning you can spot thru out the months while your body is getting use to the shot.

I was on this for a year and I tell EVERYONE to stay away from it!!!!!!!! This has to be THE WORST thing out there. The dr told me I had to take the shots b/c I had the laser operation for my ENDO.
That freaking shot puts women in to a false menopause(sp?). The symptoms were soo bad. I had hot flashes all the time I drank water like a camel... I naturally drink a lot of water but this was beyond normal. I gained soooooooooooooooooooo much weight! (which btw was sooo hard to take off!!!!!!!!!!!) I had such bad mood swings. I swear... I would be fine one minute then crying then angry. I dont have a temper at all but with this shot I had such a bad one! I craved weird food...its not so much the food but the amount of random things I was eating. Not to mention it takes all the estrogen out of your body... which makes your body react differently then its use to... You sweat A LOT and my hair got very dark.. my natural hair was always a med brown but the roots turned to black so it was harder for me to color my hair.
So its not like you get a shot and then AF stops.. It can take up to 6 months(by the 2nd shot) for it to stop. And the pain from the shot is sooooooo bad... I was in pain for at least a week after. While I was on it I AF didnt come anymore... yea it was nice but I would rather be doubled over in pain when AF comes then ever take that again!
After 1 year I had to stop although the dr didnt want me to I didnt care.
LOL... sorry for the rant but DONT EVER TAKE THE DEPO SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree with you!! stay away from this if you can!!!
YOU NEVER EVER want to take something over the counter to stop your period, EVER! if you are on the pill, there are ways to do this. if not, DO NOT EVEN THINK of finding another way to do it. it's unsafe!
