Question...

Hi Everyone!

My FH and I have been engaged just about a month now and we've only booked our engagement party and 'set' a date. I want to start looking at venues but I don't know where to start!!

Brides that have booked their venue's already, did you go to any bridal expos first? I feel like I should go to some because I have no idea where to start, but I've heard from friends that the expos can be overwhelming.

Thoughts?!?

Question... - Long Island Weddings

first things first make a guest list. doesn't have to b the exact list just an idea. bc the halls will ask u how many people first so they know what rooms to show u! and u don't want to love a place that only holds 120 but u later find out u need a room to hold more like 170! then based on that number of guest set a budget for your wedding.
I figured a for everything, dj, limo, flowers, photographer, video abd hall. I did this bc for example we loved the Jericho Terrace but it was toomuch bc I only had 3k left in my budget for everything else! maybe sense? I'm not sure if what I'm trying to say is sorry!
I emailed alot of places to get price quotes bc I am. in a very tight low budget I needed to see as many places as possible! most places will give u quotes over the phone or by email!
I figured about 5k min for the other vendors and 8k max! just to give u a ball park to work with! I hope this made sense! Any other questions let me know.

Thank you so much!!! That helped!

We have an idea of how many people we will be having, but I guess we should make a rough draft list. And we also have an idea of a budget. So I guess that's good!

I will start calling around and finding out prices. I wasn't sure if they would give you that info over the phone. I figured they would want you to come down and sit with them before they gave you their prices. So that's good news! I can knock off places that I don't have to actually go to if they are out of our price range.

This whole process is so exciting... but I want to get the venue booked and that out of the way asap.

yea some will some done won't! when I booked in July of this year for March 2015 most places were like what day to u want we are clear.... so you should still b ok in that respect! as far as expos, I think the ones at the hands r better then the ones with hundreds of vendors. but they didn't really help but they are fun. I went the all inclusive package route so I have all my vendors now I just have to meet with them! I'm so glad I did that idk if I could have spotted around for them too! my budget is so tight I called and emailed what felt like 100s of places abd seen at least 20! by the end I was more relieved then excited lol

Did you have some places in mind? I found a lot of price ranges on this website. Depending what you like I (or some of the other girls) might have quotes. You can look up the halls online to see if you like the rooms too. My FH & I are going to the bridal showcase at Jericho in January but only bc that is our venue & we want to see some samples of the preferred vendors. Hope this helps!

congrats and welcome! I agree with the other ladies above. Get an idea of how many people and what you are looking for. I personally felt too overwhelmed going to an expo to look at the venue. I would make appointments to go see the venues its much easier to envision your wedding that way.

Is there any specific things you are looking for in a venue because that can help you narrow down where to look. I really wanted something by the water so it helped me decide some places to go to.

Thank you so much, ladies!

We are going to have a large wedding. Both my fiancé and I have large families. So we definitely know we need a room to hold at least 200-250 people. So I'm sure that will narrow down our search b/c I know not all places hold that many people. I would like a venue with only 1 or 2 weddings at a time. I have heard Jericho Terrace is really nice, but I'm not sure how many weddings it hosts at once. North Ritz Club, and the Fox Hollow also are on my list to check out. I think I will just book appts and check places out and then go to an expo after we book just like Jack84. That sounds like a smart plan. =)

Congrats. I would start with making a rough draft of a guest list. I would also make a list of some pros and cons for what you want your venue to be. Also come up with a rough budget so you know how much you are looking to spend about.

I personally started emailing places and looked at pics on line. When my FH was in town we would go and look at the venues I thought were resonably priced and I liked and went from there.

If you need help with anything let me know

Fox Hollow ONLY does up to 2 weddings at a time and they are both very separate and very private. The ONLY time you will see someone from another wedding is when you pull into the parking lot but each wedding has their own valet service. So you never really see anyone

I am going to do exactly what you did. Look online and email places. I will narrow down the places I want to see from there. Its such a big decision to make, finding the right venue, that I really want to research all of these places.

Oh awesome! That's great to know! I actually work right by the Fox Hollow and I drive by it all the time and its so pretty! I wanted to definitely look there. If its only 2 weddings at a time and they are separate then they will be one of the first I look at. I just wonder if either of their rooms holds up to 200-250 people?

The Somerly Room holds 223? I am not sure what the number is for the Winter Garden Room. I have pics of the Somerly that I can send you.
