So, I am very serious about this gown, and am going to order it sometime in the next week.
And it's ALL lace, I am ordering it in a size 14, and plan on losing about 15-20 lbs before the wedding.
Is it possible to alter the dress after they measure me? I'm afraid I'll lose weight and they'll have to hem it because it'll hang different and they won't be able to...

Re: Question about Alterations
From my experience these alterations people are miracle workers, they can alter anything, lace, tulle, beading, etc etc...however, I would ASK them first and get their professional opinion before you order it. Brides gain/lose weight after they order their dresses all the time, I am sure it won't be a problem but ask them first. The gown is gorgeous btw!!!!

Re: Question about Alterations
Alterations are fine esp if the sizes are bigger. It's always better to order a bigger size as opposed to a smaller size. Dresses that are bigger in size can always be altered to be taken in as opposed to a smaller size since more material would have to be add in which makes the process complicated. I had my dress altered for my wedding due to the hem and length of the train. The seamstress did an amazing job. The dress fit me perfectly with the details of embroidery and lacing. So don't worry, you'll be fine as long as you find a really good & reputable seamstress/tailor.

I agree with this. My dress is all lace also and alterations told me they could take in the dress anywhere I wanted. But I would definitely ask before buying the dress, there was one lace dress I wanted and I was told it would be difficult to alter the length because it was a lace overlay with a designed edge at the bottom.

Re: Question about Alterations
It's definitely better to go bigger as the seamstresses know what they are doing and can take it in.
My salon told me that I can call them in a few months and ask when the designer's cut date is (many designers cut all their orders like 3 times a year, not as they receive the orders). My wedding is in May so they told me the cut date will likely be sometime in November, and if I call in October, they will know what the actual cut date is from the designer. Then, if I lose or gain a significant amount of weight by then, I have until about a week before the cut date to be remeasured, and the salon would just contact the designer to cut a different size.
Also, ask if there's any cutting upgrades to fit your body more - they cost more but in the end make for a more custom fit dress that needs less tailoring (a good thing if there's lace, like mine!). For example, even though I have a one piece dress, they are cutting the bottom to be a bigger size than the top, and they are making the top cut as a D cup (instead of ordering a huge size just for my boobs!).

THIS is what i need I have small frame (small, waist, small back, big boobs, big hips, big thighs) so the top isn't fitting right (too big all around, or too small for the boobs) Where did you order your dress?

I got mine at the Wedding Salon of Manhasset. I loved it there because it was as if the store had a personal relationship with the designers! They knew exactly what each designer can and won't do. I got mine at a trunk show so the upgrades were free. Who is the designer of your dress? I know you mentioned in a previous post you're getting yours at Lillette's - I would still ask.

Casablanca designed my dress... I will ask them the questions though, thanks for the advice!
