Question about booking a Recption Hall

Hi Everyone,

Well my fiance and I are visiting our first reception hall today and was wondering if anyone could give us any suggestions on how to negotiate to the lowest price possible. If any one had any suggestions of what to say or do or what kind of things the places were willing to throw in. I would really appreciate any help anyone could give us since we are paying for the wedding ourselves and need to be as economical as possible.

Thanks
Inez =)

I would go see the halls first, ask if they can do any better on the price for the time of year you are booking...

Otherwise, you probably want to negotiate after you have decided on a hall. You can go back to the hall and tell them that you are deciding on them and another hall, and want to see if they'll match that price.

It's not the easiest to get them to bring their prices down.

On the first visit, you won't have much luck getting the prices down. Go see some halls first, decide which ones you like most and then worry about getting their price down.

If you search for some of myold posts on this subject, I detail how we got our hall down $10-15pp... I can try to write it later, but I have to run to a meeting. (We were only booking 8 months out, though, not very far in advance)

I agree with what everyone else said. Also, if you have a higher number you can guarantee, they may lower the price. There was one place that did the negotiating for us on our first visit. they threw in chair covers, ice sculpture etc. and lowered the price pp if we guaranteed a certain number. the real negotiating happened when we narrowed our choices down though. good luck and have fun!

We got ours down by telling them we had a better offer elsewhere. You need to give them a competitor's target number. Unfortunately, for a June wedding, they know they can get another couple at their asking price.

Pay in cash. Let them know that is your plan. I got a lot thrown in b/c of that

Thank You all so much. We went and looked at 2 today!!! We went to The North Ritz Club and Chateu Le Mer. Thankfully we're planning on a sunday afternoon wedding which helps on the price thankfully. =)
