Question about BP

Original post by Mrs. V 2008

Now I always thought that the bride and the groom would put their siblings in out of respect for the family? right? well my sister (who's planning) is having me in it and 2 other friends, and the groom is having 2 brothers and 1 other friend..but he never asked my brother to be in it, because they don't want an uneven bridal party..do you think its wrong not to include my brother? hes really upset and hurt about it, and to me i think he has a right to be..my sister disagrees

hmm I can totally understand why your brother would be hurt being the only sibling not in the bridal party! If the uneven number is the only thing standing in their way, I think they should reconsider. A bridal party should be made up of people who are most important to the couple, it shouldn't be about being symmetrical. My bridal party is SOOOOO uneven. We have 6 groomsmen and 3 bridesmaids (well, one is a MOH)

I agree. I'm having an uneven bridal party and I'm not worried about it at all. It's about including friends and family who are dear to you. Besides a god photographer will be able to produce a symmetric look even if the sides are uneven.

Re: Question about BP

well my situation is a little different. I have 4 brothers and my fh only knows one of them well, so personally i wanted him to ask people who he wants to be in his side of the bridal party. I did ask his sister because i do know her pretty well. He was also going to ask the brother he does know. but i want him to walk me down the aisle so none of my brothers are groomsmen. I think that your sister could think of other ways to allow your brother to be apart of the day. Just my opinion

It is an unfortunate situation. FH and I split the BP evenly, it was easier that we only have one younger sibling each and they are our best man and maid of honor, but we had a similar problem with cousins!

I think that's messed up...uneven or not, that's blood. FH is having both my brothers in it out of respect and love for my family.

siblings should DEFINITELY be in the party. uneven or not. you shouldnt pick and choose in that area.

FH and i each have 1 sis and 1 bro and all 4 of them in our party

Re: Question about BP

I might be the only one here, but I don't think that family members have to be part of the bridal party, but I think you should have people you want to stand there with you in your bridal party. If her FH is not cool with your brother, it might be ackward at their bachelor party and other event. she can include your brother in other way.
If my FH had a sister, I don't think she would have been part of my bridal party, I have both of my sisters in it and friends that I've known for a long time and we can talk about anything we want as we always do. Having his sister might have changed it all.

Re: Question about BP

I'm having fh's sisters and he's having my brothers. I think I would have been so hurt if i wasn't asked to be a bm for my brother's wedding!

ETA: My brother didn't have FH in the wedding and I could tell that day that he wished he had!! He tried to include my FH in all the bp things to make up for it!
