Question about Bulbs in Containers...

I just planted all my spring bulbs (crocus, daffodils, tulips) in two big pots. I wasn't sure I would be able to get them in the ground at my DH's before the frost, so I decided to just use containers instead.

Does anyone know what the best way of over-wintering them is?? Should I just leave them outside all winter? Or would they be better in an unheated garage or shed?? Do you water them??

THANKS!

I know there is a section about this in my gardening book-- but it's at home.
Let me check it when I get home tonight and I'll get back to you!

PS- I finally got to planting my bulbs too! I was nervous this past week b.c it was so cold. But thankfully it was warm on Sun. I planted over 60 tulips and daffodils in my small front bed and I have about 40 to go in the back!

If you are going to leave them out try to give them some insulation. Pile leaves or mulch around the pots and place them near the house. Im trying this for the first time in two built in planters on our deck so heres to good garden luck for both of us.

Thanks!!

I'm going to pile some pine needles on top for now, and when I move to DH's, I'll put the containers up against the house on his covered front porch. I think that should be okay.

I know the one thing bulbs can't tolerate is being 'cold and wet.' Cold is fine. Wet is what makes them rot.

So if it snows and the snow covers your planters, don't let it melt away on it's own. Clear it off or else it will keep the bulbs too wet as it slowly melts away.
