Question about Cereal

Ryan started cereal last week on the dr.'s advice. Dr. advised 4 tsp. in 2 oz. formula. 3 days on rice, 3 days on oatmeal and 3 days on barley, 2x a day. Well, we started out like a champ. He was doing great on his cereal. Well last night and today he is totally refusing the cereal...is this something anyone else has experienced? I don't want to force him, but he was on waaay too much liquid (up to 40 oz. a day) and the cereal is really helping his tummy problems. Any advice on getting him interested again?

Maybe you want to change when you offer the cereal to him -- either a few hours before or after his bottle, rather than with it.

Also, if your dr. agrees, maybe you can add fruit, like applesauce to it -- it makes the taste better.

OMG, Lee! I can't believe Ryan's on cereal already!!! EEK, where has the time gone!!? He must be getting so big!!

Kathi, honestly, it's ridiculous!! I cannot believe the boy is already eating cereal (although after today's protest, I'm not sure what's going on with him!!) Sigh...time is FLYING!! Before you know it Sean will be right there eating cereal with Ryan!!

I know when my son was 3 months I had to start giving him cereal. He was 9lbs. 7 oz. when he was born. I couldn't produce enough breast milk. With my doctors ok I gave him cereal. My mom is a RN and told me to make the cereal really soupy for the first few times. Maybe if you use formula or breastmilk to mix it and make it a more watery consistancy it will help. If the spoon isn't working you can always use a dropper to **** on or put it in the corner of the mouth to fill up and naturally they will swallow. Be careful not to go to fast or choking can happen.
Eventually you can make it thicker. Have patience. If they want to eat they will. Also talk to your doctor about your problem. They always have the best advice! Good Luck!
