Question about cookware sets

I'm started to work on my registry and I have a question about cookware sets. What type should I get??? Stainless steel, non-stick, anondized???

Re: Question about cookware sets

We currently have the cheapy Cuisinart Non-Stick (I bought it when I first moved into my apt) and it's scratched up and warped... I've read that non-stick should be tossed immediately once it starts scratching, and most chefs on food network use stainless (plus, you need stainless to make certain kinds of dishes properly) so we decided to switch to stainless with a few non-stick skillets.

we're going to have to learn to cook on stainless but hopefully it wont be too hard to learn

the top brands are all clad (#1) and calphalon (#2) -- I was going to suck it up and register for all clad, but I tried them on at BBB and the all clad handles hurt my hands. they are a little prettier than calphalon, but i liked that the calphalon pieces were a bit cheaper, included more things in their set, and the handles were much more comfortable so we registered for the calphalon tri ply stainless set with a bunch of accent pieces.

the people at BBB were pretty knowledgeable, as are the reviews on amazon

hope this helps a little

Thanks a lot! I have the same CuisineArt set as you I just got them when we first moved in just to have something to cook with, lol. I'm leaning toward stainless steel too. I like the idea of getting a couple non-stick pieces as well. Thanks

the nonstick pieces we got were the 10'/12' omelette pan set (they have a special where its $49 for the set) and a tiny little 1Q saucepan with a lid. that might be it? ill check our registry

I would not recommend nonstick since the non-stick chemical comes off the pan over time and into the food you cook and eat.

we didn't get it off our registry but we have the Cooking with Calphalon Anodized 10-pc. Cookware Set. We got it at kohls but they probably have it at BBB or any of the main registry places. I cook/bake all the time and love this set and it's pretty inexpensive (for calphalon). Here is a pic

I just got this same set off my registry....but I haven't used it yet. I think it's better for you then non-stick if you are concerned about the chemicals.

Re: Question about cookware sets

I also have cuisinart and they are all scratched just from stacking them up in the cabinet.

I went for the Stainless Tri-Ply Calphalon as well. If you ask any of your Aunts, etc. They will probably tell you they have their original stainless set from their wedding 40 years ago.

Compliment it with a few non-stick skillets that can be replaced after a few years.

My friend just received the Calphalon One Non-stick $700 set for a shower gift and it came all scratched.

If you want for the long run, get stainless, if you don't care about replacing in a few years, get non-stick. JMO

we needed a few nonstick accents for omelettes etc but they are all relatively cheap to replace. they are muuuuuuuuuuch more nonstick than our current nonstick. nothing sticks at all!

We're going for Calaphon non-stick. As great as stainless steal can be (we do have a few pieces already like that) as the resident cook in the house, let me tell you doing things like making eggs, or bacon, or pancakes, or french toast, or burgers to chicken breast, holy cr@p the list goes on and on! Unless you really grease up that pan with oil or butter, it will be a pain in the @ss trying to cook. Things get stuck and rip apart, or you lose half your food to the pan walls. It may be worth it to go half and half, or at least have 2 non-stick frying pans.

I got stainless steel, but I already had a set of non stick. I think it is good to have a mix. Maybe also get a cast iron skillet or something like le cruset. Certain foods cook better on certain types of cookware.

this is what we got too, and a year later we still love it. we got it from our Target registry, and it wasn't overly expensive.

We're going on 4 years with this set and we use them all the time so they're VERY durable.
