question about engagement gifts from fam

So... i'm not having an engagement party. BUT for christmas one side of the family gave FH and i lots of christmas decorations, wine glasses and wine stuff.
FMIL got us a coffee maker

And now we are going to a communion this sat for another part of the fam who we haven't seen since our engagement. I heard through the grapevine and they are asking if there is anything FH or i want cuz they wanna give us a egift.

but i don't have a registry and don't want to just flat out say money lol.

I'm thinking MAYBE our basic flatware but then FH and i gotta find what we want now lol.

thoughts?

I don't think they let you return gifts for cash.

But why not start a registry anyway for instances like this? Or have a family member (FMIL) suggest like standard things like wine glasses.

I would start a simple registry. Maybe some gadgets that you want/need? Coffee maker? George Foreman Grill? Things like that.

Or you could do your flatware and everyday dinnerware, everyday glasses etc.

I used to work at BBB in high school and when I was there people used to return so much crap for cash. As long as it was on their registry, they could get cash back for it.

Good to know though about returns with a registry
