Question about Father Daughter dance.

Question about Father Daughter dance.

I'm not dancing with my dad for personal reason. We just started talking a yr ago after almost seven yrs. My fh isn't dancing with his mother either. But there is an old teacher I'm inviting to my wedding and was invited to my E-party. He was my teacher in jr high and I had such a crush on him back then. We have talked and I had met is wonderful gf. Here is the thing, I feel that this teacher was way more of a father to me than my actual dad. Do you think I should ask him to have one dance with me. I don't know, I feel odd even asking, but I truely feel he was like the father I never really had. Advise please...

Do you mean dance with him alone, as if it were a father daughter dance? Would he be comfortable with this?

I don't know. I would be an innocent dance. Nothing inapporiate. I feel really odd, but its somehting that has been toying in my mind.

Maybe it's possible to have a dance with him without making a spectacle of it, like the father/daughter dance would be?

I wouldn't rule out your dad just yet. Since you did just start talking again, anything is possible. However if your FH is not doing the mother/son dance, then I would leave it as not having either dance, and then just dance with your teacher!

I wouldn't make it that its just him and I dancing alone. I just dont know if I should and how should I ask. And in all honesty I wouldn't be talking to my father even now, accept he loaned me a large sum of money when I was in a bind. That is why he is invited to the wedding. He is not walking me down the aisle or dancing with me. My FH agrees.

honestly, I would dance with the teacher, but don't have it announced. Even if your dad just came into your life, I still think its disrespectful and will hurt his feelings. You can dance with your teacher, just don't make it a big thing. You could tell the Photographer in advance that this will be done. Also, it isn't right if your FI isn't dancing with his mother either.

Simple. Wait until the wedding. Then ask him to dance with you and make sure his GF doesn't mind. Who at a wedding is going to refuse to dance with the bride??

Although I could see his GF being jealous of his dancing with you in the wedding dress you have!!

IMO- i think it would be better to not have the father-daughter dance and at some point just to dance w/ the teacher if you feel that strongly about it and not make it a 'moment'.

All I will say to this is, some parents should feel lucky the are invited

sounds like there are a lot of issues surrounding this wedding..we all have them! But me personally I wouldn't make a dance with the teacher another issue. I would maybe just ask him to dance at the wedding, and thank him for being such a wonderful influence in your life.

I would ask him to dance-- not to a 'father daughter dance'

I agree with what the other ladies said- of course dance with him, but do not make it a stand out moment. Either you have the parent dances or you don't - especially if the parents are actually going to be there. If your relationship with your dad and FH with his mom are not good, then just forego these dances, and ask your teacher to dance at some point during the reception. I am sure he will be very honored. You can also ask your photographer to make sure he gets a photo.

I agree. If you feel odd about it, just wait until the day of the wedding. It will still be as meaningful as you asking him ahead of time.

this is just meant as a joke..but can you imagine playing 'father figure' by george michael for the dance??? lol!!

All seriousness...make no mention of any special dance. He was your teacher, not a close uncle or grandpa. Like the other girls said....you could grab him for a dance at some point without anyone knowing. I think that would be perfect!!

nah- i wouldn't do it. i just feel its inappropriate - especially with your biological dad there. maybe you could include him in something else to make him feel special or for you to recognize him. but the dance - i just don't think its right - i feel like SOMEONE is going to get hurt.

Re: Question about Father Daughter dance.

How close are you with your teacher now? If you are close with him still to this day, then ok, but if you are not, then I don't think it would be a good idea. And if so, like other girls said, I would ask him for a dance throughout the night, but would not make a big deal out of it.

Thanks girls. that was pretty much what I was thinking. I didn't want to make it a big deal. I've never been to a wedding so I wasn't sure that whenever the bride felt like dancing people got off the floor. Thanks for all your help.
